‘The Artful Dodger’ Season 2 Review: Over 2 Years Later, Hulu's Historical Romance Feels Like a Completely New Show

In 2023, Hulu quietly released The Artful Dodger over the holiday season. The series presented itself as an inventive twist on Charles Dickens’ Victorian masterpiece, Oliver Twist. But rather than focusing on Dickens’ titular orphan, the series took the eponymous “Dodger” — known here as Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) — and set him on a new path in life, one that saw him join the Royal Navy and eventually make a life for himself as a surgeon in the British Colony of Australia. Of course, Fagin (David Thewlis) wasn’t far behind him, putting a strain upon Jack’s new life. While the series sold itself as a sort of historical heist-meets-medical drama, The Artful Dodger’s greatest selling point was the romance between Jack and Lady Belle Fox (Maia Mitchell), the Governor’s daughter-turned-budding medical professional. After all, everyone loves a pair of star-crossed lovers, especially when the odds are stacked against them. With Bridgerton satisfying everyone's Regency romance dreams on Netflix, Hulu is here to satisfy bluestocking romance fans with The Artful Dodger.

New Hulu Releases This Week Feature Season 2 of Hit Drama Show & More

Hulu’s new TV and movie releases for this week (February 9-15, 2026) include Season 2 of the popular drama series, The Artful Dodger.

In The Artful Dodger, Jack Dawkins potrayed by Thomas Brodie-Sangster, trades in his pickpocketing ways for a scalpel, becoming a skilled surgeon in 1850s Australia. But when Fagin reappears, Jack’s past comes knocking, pulling him back into the world of crime.

Premiering February 10, 2026, Season 2 of The Artful Dodger thrusts Dr. Jack Dawkins into a deadly vortex. Inspector Boxer closes in, and Fagin coerces him into a treacherous heist. Meanwhile, Jack’s illicit passion for Lady Belle, a rising medical star, ignites, further complicating his desperate bid for survival.

There is no gentle easing into the opening scene of The Artful Dodger. With a quickening pulse, season two begins at a literal run as a desperate Lady Belle Fox tears through town.

The high-society lady is unkempt and unruly as she dodges through a crowded market square, pleading to save the man she loves. Dr Jack Dawson (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) has a date with the noose after being found guilty of a crime he didn’t commit.

Bridgerton season four review – fear not nudity fans, the sex scenes continue apace

This period drama’s puddingy mix of clunking soap and fairytale wish-fulfilment is hard to resist. It is, however, utterly bananas

‘I am charting a more venturesome course outside this society and in doing so I am being true to myself!” snorts Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), flaring his philandering nostrils as Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell) looks on aghast. “But you still have two sisters who must marry and their fate depends on the family reputation,” she snaps, bustle crackling with maternal indignation. “This requires you to be a gentleman and not … a rake!”

At this point, when faced with such period-specific umbrage, it is customary for the casual viewer to insert her monocle and refer to her dog-eared copy of The Crashingly Inevitable Downton Abbey Comparisons Companion. And in many ways Bridgerton, bless its ridiculous socks, continues to invite such comparisons with open arms. There are costumes. There is a house. There are scones (pronounced “scones”, of course, not – heaven forfend – “scones”) and scrunch-faced toffs clearing their throats at news from the shires. There are scullery maids a-titterin’ an’ a-gossipin’ and footmen with calves like bowling balls plotting to relieve dignitaries of their britches. There is a string-heavy score that becomes aroused at times of narrative tension and actively tumescent at the sight of a poorly secured cravat.

Bridgerton star Yerin Ha described the latest series of the Regency romance show as "so magical", adding that it is "a real Cinderella story".

The hit costume drama follows the eight siblings of the Bridgerton family in their quest to find love.

Australian actor Ha, 28, fronts the fourth season of the show as Sophie Baek, the love interest for the second-eldest son of the Bridgerton clan, Benedict, who is played by Luke Thompson.

With an Australian in the lead, Bridgerton finds its zing once again

Dearest gentle reader, I have good news and bad news. The good, is that after a – frankly – dull third season (Nicola Coughlan and Claudia Jessie as besties Penelope and Eloise were, as usual, the only highlights, while Colin, played by Luke Newton, had about as much charisma as a collapsed trifle), we have a resurgence on our hands. But the bad? It may not be enough to save a series that is very much basting in its overcooked juices.

Let’s start with the good stuff: Bridgerton has remembered that romance – and comedy – runs on chemistry. Without the zing, everything else falls flat, which was the major problem with season three’s main couple, Penelope and Colin.

Shrinking season three review – Harrison Ford is the best thing about this unapologetically soapy show

This warm, inoffensive but undeniably mawkish comedy about a therapist is cosy but preposterous. Sometimes it’s like the excellent Ford is in a totally different programme

Such is the surfeit of TV offered up to us in the streaming age that there are whole shows featuring A-list actors that only two of your friends have heard of and even fewer are watching. A case in point: Apple’s Shrinking, a dramedy from the creator of Scrubs and Ted Lasso about a grieving therapist who, rather than merely nodding and looking sad, decides to get brutally honest with his patients.

Michael J. Fox was so moved by ‘Shrinking,’ he asked his former ‘Spin City’ boss for a part

This is read by an automated voice. Please report any issues or inconsistencies here.

The call from Michael J. Fox didn’t need any punching up. It arrived after he began watching “Shrinking,” the Apple TV comedy co-created by his former “Spin City” boss Bill Lawrence that features Harrison Ford as a therapist adjusting to life with Parkinson’s. The actor, who was diagnosed with the disease at 29, was moved by the depth and nuances he felt in the writing and performance.

“It’s so human and it was accessible for me,” he recalls thinking. “I know what that is.” And, so, he called Lawrence roughly a year ago, once he burned through episodes, to say as much. But this being Fox, he slapped it with the sort of wry delivery that long ago made him a master of comedic timing.

Well, this was a classic penultimate episode of television: a lot of setup, new twists placed on a simmer, and a little self-contained action to make the whole enterprise worthwhile. Most curious of the handful of late-stage reveals we get in this episode is probably around Steph’s pre-war ordeal as part of the Canadian resistance; in Fallout lore, Canada was annexed by America some years before the world ended. In the cold open, we see her escape an internment camp alongside another woman — I think it’s supposed to be her mom, going by the “raised you Catholic” line — and they’re almost caught before a fellow freedom fighter suicide bombs the power-armoured grunt who threatens to wrangle them up. Steph’s mom is hit with shrapnel, and before she dies, leaves her with chilling advice: “Don’t think of them as human beings. Think of them as Americans.” Something has always been more than a little off with the overseer of Vault 32, and this episode provides a clarifying window into her air of sociopathy. It stands to reason that if she doesn’t think of the vault dwellers as human, it would be a breeze for her to subject them to Vault-Tec’s experimental misdeeds. It makes sense why they hired her.

‘Fallout’: Amazon Says Season 2 Is Tracking As One Of Its Top 4 Returning Series, But Won’t Release Viewership Stats, Yet

Fallout returned to Prime Video with its second season last month, prompting questions about the sophomore installment of the video game adaptation over the course of the last six weeks. With just two episodes left to go, the streamer is finally pulling back the curtain (just slightly) on the Season 2 audience.

As it stands, Amazon said Season 2 of Fallout is the top-performing season on Prime Video since Reacher Season 3, which debuted in February 2025. The streamer added that it is also currently the No. 6 TV season of all time on Prime Video. It falls behind both Seasons 1 and 2 of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher Seasons 2 and 3, and the first season of Fallout.

Fallout Season 2 is Prime Video's sixth most-watched series of all time

Over half of viewers are outside the US, biggest audiences residing in UK, Germany, and Brazil

Fallout season 2 has already become Prime Video's sixth most-watched series of all time in four weeks.

As reported by Deadline, Fallout's second season ranks behind both series of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher seasons two and three, and the first season of Fallout.

Looking at just the returning seasons chart, Fallout ranks at No.4 behind Reacher and Rings of Power.

Fallout season 2 premiered on December 16, 2025, with episodes airing weekly as opposed to its first season in 2024.

Amazon has yet to release the full viewing figures for Fallout season 2, but has shared some interesting stats including that a sizable chunk of its audience reside in the UK, Germany, and Brazil.

Streaming Ratings: ‘Fallout’ Falls Off With Change From Binge to Weekly Release for Season 2

The Nielsen streaming stats for the season two premiere of Fallout are significantly smaller than those for season one in 2024 — but that’s hardly the complete picture.

Fallout accumulated 794 million viewing minutes on Prime Video for the week of Dec. 15-21; season two debuted on Dec. 16. In raw numbers, that’s way down from the 2.9 billion minutes of watch time for season one’s opening week in April 2024, which stands as the best premiere for a series ever on the Amazon-owned platform.

There are a couple of big differences between the seasons, however, that help account for the disparity. Prime Video released Fallout season one as a binge. In season two, the streamer opted for a weekly release, and it dropped only one episode on Dec. 16, rather than two or three as it has done for a number of other series.

“Can I talk about my favourite shot of the entire season?” Jules O'Loughlin, cinematographer of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, asked.

Lovely reader, that is a question this writer could never say ‘no’ too.

“It's the opening of the chariot race,” he said, “when they're all lined up on the field and the camera tracks past all of the characters in the chariots and it gets tighter. And then there's this push in on Leah, the actress who plays Annabeth, in that gold costume. And I'm not even looking at the chariot. I'm looking at the gold of her costume. That shot is my favourite shot in the entire series. Leah looks so gorgeous. But it's the costume, Cate, that just jumps off the screen. And I remember you gave me that helmet.”
