In December 2020, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league was taking a fresh look at the idea of expanding after nearly two decades. For the past five years since he floated the concept, an entire industry around the idea has developed as great anticipation has built.

And after several fits and starts, the league is now barreling toward the addition of two teams, as ESPN's Shams Charania reported Monday that next week's board of governors meeting will include a vote to explore adding Seattle and Las Vegas franchises beginning with the 2028-29 season.

Silver told Lombardo the league probably would add two expansion franchises, with Las Vegas and Seattle the destinations of choice, the person said.

The discussion comes amid reports that the league is expected to vote to further its expansion process at the NBA Board of Governors meeting this month in New York and begin to talk with potential ownership groups.

Seattle targeted for 2028-2029 NBA expansion as SuperSonics talks heat up

SEATTLE — The NBA is moving closer to expansion, with the league set to vote later this month on whether to begin exploring adding teams in Las Vegas and Seattle.

A league source independently confirmed with KOMO News that the NBA will hold a vote at the Board of Governors meetings March 24-25 to explore adding expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle, with the two franchises targeted for the 2028-29 season.

Charania reported there is momentum for stakeholders to approve surveying what industry executives project will be bids in the $7 billion-to-$10 billion range for each team.

Who owns the Seattle Seahawks? It's complicated

Super Bowl 60 takes place Feb. 8 between the Seahawks and New England Patriots.

The Patriots have a well-known owner, Robert Kraft. Meanwhile, the Seahawks' ownership is unconventional compared to some other teams in the NFL.

The Seahawks are owned by the Paul G. Allen Trust, the estate of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Allen bought the Seahawks in 1997, according to ESPN, and remained the owner until he died in 2018. Allen's sister, Jody Allen, is the trustee and executor of the estate and is in control of the team.

Near record streak of dry January days in Seattle

SEATTLE — January is typically a soaker in western Washington, but lately, you’d be hard-pressed to find any rain at all.

Sunday marks the 13th day in a row with no measurable rain in our area.

And this is not something we want to see when we should be loading up our snowpack in the mountains and keeping the raingear handy in the lowlands.

Right now, we are on track to set a new record for consecutive January days with no rain.

The old record is 15 days in a row with no rain, set back in 1963.

Seattle logs 11 straight ‘dry’ days as historic January record looms

You would have to go back to 1963 to find this kind of dry pattern in western Washington. That’s when Seattle set a record of 15 straight days in January without rain.

We are not quite there yet, but Friday is Day 11 with no measurable precipitation.

“We’ve just been under a pattern that’s really deflected any of these weather systems away from us,” Jacob DeFlitch, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Seattle, said.

The dry streak is expected to continue at least through the weekend. Forecast models show a possible weak system arriving Monday, but meteorologists say it is unlikely to bring much, if any, rainfall.
