IPL Round 1: Who’s On Top, Who’s At Bottom?

We are nearly done with the first round of IPL 2026 as all the teams except for Delhi and Lucknow completed their opening games of the season. Let us have a look at the positioning of the teams on the points table.

At the top of the table, we have Rajasthan Royals, which has a positive run rate of 4, which is pretty extraordinary at the start of the tournament. Significant victory against Chennai Super Kings has largely helped the team.

In second position, we have defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru while the title favourite for this season, Mumbai Indians is on third position. We have Punjab placed fourth on the list.

Katherine River is flooding in several areas today, with the BOM warning that levels at Katherine Bridge could exceed the major flood mark tonight.

Emergency services, bolstered by interstate support, are urging Katherine residents to stay alert and avoid driving in floodwater.

The Katherine River could hit the major flood level again tonight, with evacuation centres in the regional town of Katherine set to open and a pop-up hospital to remain in place.

Bunbury teenager John Standley has become the second West Aussie to qualify for Australian Idol’s Top 12 on Wednesday night after Fremantle’s Charlie Moon achieved the same feat on Monday.

Tasked with reinventing himself for Transformation Week, Standley, 17, strayed from his preferred 50s and 60s “jukebox” tunes to perform a modernised version of James Brown’s iconic hit I Got You.

The “feel good” classic got the judges on their feet as much as the crowd, with Kyle Sandilands admitting he could “see that touring”.

Amy Shark told the teen he’s “got a clear lane there, dude, so just go for it”.

Australian Idol: Contestant Charlie Moon reveals how he plans to honour his mother after losing her to brain cancer

Idol hopeful Charlie Moon was fast-tracked to the Top 12 last night with his own rendition of a Beatles classic dedicated to his friends.

But there is one special person the 31-year-old artist from Perth, WA, hopes he gets a chance to honour in the competition — his mum.

Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au following Monday night’s emotional performance, Moon opened up about losing his mother Dawn and how his friends became his “guiding light” through the grief.

The singer’s mother died in November 2023 after a brave battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The diagnosis came as a shock to his family, particularly his father Tommy, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer ten years ago and is still fighting the disease today.

Former MasterChef Australia judge George Calombaris is about to re-enter Melbourne’s hospitality scene with the launch of his new restaurant, Auto Greek.

The Greek pop-up will run for one month from February 27 at Ovolo Melbourne’s South Yarra hotel, taking over the space formerly occupied by the recently closed Lona Misa restaurant.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Calombaris dismissed suggestions he had turned his back on Victoria, saying he was eager to reconnect with Melbourne’s food scene.

Grizzlies vs Trail Blazers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Hanshew's prediction: Expect a big night on the boards for Trail Blazers center Donovan Clingan.

After completing a blockbuster trade to send Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz, the new-look Memphis Grizzlies travel west to face the Portland Trail Blazers.Donovan Clingan is one of the NBA’s top rebounders, and my Grizzlies vs. Trail Blazers predictions expect him to dominate the glass against a depleted Grizzlies frontcourt. Here are my best free NBA picks for this Western Conference showdown on Friday, February 6.

Grizzlies vs Trail Blazers best bet: Donovan Clingan Over 12.5 rebounds (-112)

Donovan Clingan ranks fifth in rebounds per game this season at 11.2, and he’s pulled down 11 on the road compared to 11.4 at home. He’s pulled down at least 13 rebounds just 15 times in 47 appearances this season, but five of those have come across his last eight games. The Portland Trail Blazers big man has averaged 13.6 rebounds in that eight-game span, and he’s averaged just over 14 boards per game over his last three at home.Over the last 10 games, the Memphis Grizzlies have surrendered the ninth-most total rebounds (46) and second-most offensive rebounds (14.1), setting Clingan up for a nice day on the glass. An already-depleted Grizzlies frontcourt traded Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jock Landale, and Santi Aldama and Zach Edey are still sidelined. Clingan should feast tonight against the shorthanded Grizzlies and comfortably clear this rebound line.

The shooting of Alex Pretti was carried out by a federal agent licensed to act with impunity. The US must be rescued from Trump’s authoritarianism

Following the fatal shooting earlier this month of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, his colleagues received reassurance that they continued to enjoy “federal immunity” for their actions. “Anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony,” the White House deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, had previously stated. “No city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator or domestic insurrectionist can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties.”

Elena Rybakina has reinforced her status as a key women’s singles title contender with a 6-4 6-3 first-round triumph over Kaja Juvan at Margaret Court Arena.

“I’m happy with the serve, it really worked today,” the No.5 seed said. Rybakina won 83 per cent of first-serve points during the match, eclipsing her WTA Tour-leading 74.9 per cent record at the four majors in 2025.

Tennis, WTA – Australian Open 2026: Rybakina takes out Juvan

Elena Rybakina extended her flawless opening-round record at the Australian Open on Tuesday, moving to 7-0 in Melbourne starters with a clinical 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kaja Juvan. The world number 5, who reached the final here in 2023, required just over an hour to secure her place in the second round, signaling a continuation of the devastating form that defined her late-season surge in 2025.

The victory serves as a confident opening statement for Rybakina’s title hunt. While Juvan offered resistance in the early stages of the first set, she was ultimately unable to cope with the relentless pace and depth of the Kazakh’s groundstrokes. Rybakina’s serve, widely considered the most effective weapon in women’s tennis, remained impenetrable during the critical moments of the second set, where she struck five aces and won over 75 percent of her first-serve points.

U23s narrowly defeated in second AFC U23 Asian Cup™ group stage game

The Olyroos thought they had snatched a point deep into extra time when Giuseppe Bovalina bundled the ball over the line at the back post, but a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review showed the Australian's hand touched the ball and the goal was disallowed.

Head coach Tony Vidmar made three changes from the opening game against Thailand, with Manchester United's James Overy and Perth Glory duo Nathanael Blair and Kaelan Majekodunmi making their first starts of the tournament.

The young Aussies dominated possession of the ball for the first half hour but were unable to create chances against a resolute China PR defence. Tony Vidmar's men started to penetrate their opposing penalty box ten minutes out from half time when a marauding run from Aydan Hammond ended with a collision in the area, but the referee dismissed penalty appeals from the Australians.

Late Olyroos drama as VAR rules out 94th minute equaliser in frustrating defeat to China, must win match looms

Giuseppe Bovalina had an equalising goal disallowed in the fourth minute of stoppage time as the Olyroos desperately tried to salvage a point in their Under-23s Asian Cup clash with China.

Bovalina, a second half substitute, thought he’d bundled home a wicked Ethan Alagich cross but replays clearly showed he had handled the ball after a ricochet off China’s goalkeeper, keeping the score at 1-0.

The disallowed goal capped a frustrating afternoon for Tony Vidmar’s side, whose historic goal scoring woes in recent Under-23 tournaments returned as they were unable to break down a stubborn Chinese rear guard.
