Change your airport, not your airline, to save money on flights

Type a keyword, ask a question or describe what you need

Major airports such as London Heathrow and New York JFK may be well connected, but they’re not the only runways in town. Seeking out smaller alternatives can mean flying for less.

For instance, everybody knows Heathrow, and many also know Gatwick, but did you know that four other major airports also serve the British capital? London’s City Airport, Southend, Stansted and Luton are all at your disposal – and choosing one airport over another could cut your airfare in half.

That’s partially because smaller airports play host to lower-cost airlines that shun the bigger hubs and their correspondingly higher fees. But some airlines also serve multiple airports in the same city, opening the door to savings – if you’re savvy enough to search.

How you can see the International Space Station from Perth

Perth stargazers are in for a treat on Tuesday evening when the International Space Station appears in the WA sky.

The space station will be visible for about eight minutes from 6.40pm as it travels south-east, according to astronomy experts in Perth.

For novice space fans, there’s no need to stress about securing any special equipment to view the phenomenon — the station will be visible to the naked eye.

‘That Astronomy Guy’ Matt Woods says the space craft will look like a shooting star in the sky but will be almost as bright as Venus .

“It’ll start out as a bright, steadily moving dot in the sky, then grow brighter and brighter as it crosses overhead,” he told PerthNow about the sighting.

NASA has contracted a purpose-built spacecraft to push the International Space Station out of orbit in late 2030, steering the 430-tonne structure towards the remote South Pacific near Point Nemo, where passing astronauts can briefly be the nearest humans

NASA's deorbit vehicle will turn the ISS from a continuously inhabited place back into an object, then guide its controlled breakup over the remote South Pacific.

There is an uncomfortable practical question inside every permanent-looking human project: who turns off the lights? For the International Space Station, the answer is now being built.

NASA has contracted SpaceX to develop a U.S. Deorbit Vehicle, a heavily modified Cargo Dragon that will eventually dock with the station and supply the final push that takes it out of orbit. The current plan is for a controlled re-entry in late 2030, after the final crew has departed.

Javier Bardem Is Rooting for Spain at the World Cup Finals

Javier Bardem is among the A-Listers in attendance at New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup Finals. But unlike some other celebrities at the game, it’s clear who he is rooting for: Team Spain. Bardem, who was born in the Canary Islands, arrived at the match in a Spain jersey with “26” on the chest.

This isn’t his first time attending a Spain game this World Cup; Bardem went to both the quarterfinals and semifinals, and he was joined by his wife, actress Penélope Cruz, at the quarterfinals and the round of 32 match.

At the round of 32 match, cameras captured the couple in the stands alongside singer Rosalía.

There are two reasons to explain why the Saints dropped out of the race for Lachie Neale

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon’s early declaration on Saturday that his club would not pursue Brisbane’s unrestricted free agent Lachie Neale because they are “not in a position to do it with our young midfield and what we are trying to do and commit and sign” can be interpreted in different ways.

The most obvious one is the Saints growing confidence in their relatively young midfield, with 24-year-old Max Hall, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, 23, Hugo Garcia, 21, and 20-year-old Darcy Wilson developing well in that key part of the ground.

The out-of-contract Wilson is, like Wanganeen-Milera last year, driving his price up every week as he produces a consistent season after an up-and-down 2025 where he played VFL and wondered whether St Kilda was the club for him to flourish.

‘Something we could’ve pursued’: Neale suitor ‘out’ as details of crunch meeting revealed

Plus Craig McRae isn’t the only senior coach that’s seen “better technology” for score reviews. A tech company pitched to the AFL for its cameras to overhaul the current system. Read on in AFL Daily.

St Kilda is officially out of the race for Lachie Neale.

Ross Lyon revealed the club was no longer pursuing the star Lions free agent after their meeting last week, as the Saints prioritise retaining their young stars.

Weekend clearance rates see promising uptick across country

Auction clearance rates are on the rise, bouncing back to their highest level in seven weeks.

Experts predict this could be a promising sign for the property market and potential investors, or those wanting to get a foot in the door.

For perspective, capital cities recorded a combined preliminary clearance rate of 54.8 per cent over the weekend, across 1318 auctions.

However, this time last year, that figure stood closer to 68 per cent, according to data from Cotality, so there is still a way to go.

“I think we are at the beginning of a property downturn, the question is… how long does it go on for,” director of Azura Financial, Tom Hawley told Today.

Auction clearance rates rebound to seven-week high

After three weeks in the sub-50 per cent doldrums, auction clearance rates have bounced back to their highest level in seven weeks as lower volume constrains choice and buyers and sellers acclimatise to the cooling post-budget market.

According to data house Cotality, the preliminary clearance rate across the combined capitals hit 54.8 per cent, a significant jump on last week’s 49.8 per cent, which was revised down to 46 per cent on final numbers.

‘If you see one movie this year’: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey set to storm the box office

The summer’s most anticipated film will raise epic questions about culture wars, classics and the nature of film-making

In a plot twist worthy of the ancient bards themselves, the hottest movie of the summer isn’t a superhero flick, or an alien-invasion yarn, or a crinolines-and-bonnets period drama. Instead, it is an adaptation of a nearly 3,000-year-old epic poem, which film-maker Christopher Nolan is releasing as a follow-up to Oppenheimer, his grim, Oscar-winning study of the origins of nuclear war. Nolan, previously director of Memento, the Dark Knight trilogy and Dunkirk, has now turned his attention to the Odyssey, the classical Greek saga that, along with its companion epic the Iliad, is one of the foundational works of western civilisation.

A bizarre popcorn bucket, IMAX ticket mayhem and an A-list cast: Why Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' is among the most anticipated movies of 2026

Are you ready for The Odyssey? Whether it's the battle for tickets on a constantly crashing website or a head-scratching souvenir popcorn bucket, the Christopher Nolan adaptation has the internet in a frenzy.

Nolan's swords-and-sandals blockbuster, which hits theaters nationwide on July 17, is an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek poem and features an A-list cast, led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, the heroic king who embarks on a treacherous journey home following the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Travis Scott and Elliot Page are also on the epic's star-studded roster.

Cancel your Friday night plans and charge your smartphone. A surprise aurora australis could paint the Australian night sky in vivid shades of electric pink and neon green tonight, Friday, July 3, 2026, with peak viewing times expected to trigger across southern regions between 5:50pm and 6:20pm local time.

A celestial event of this scale is the ultimate winter spectacle — a transient, hyper-visual spectacle that turns a dark, crisp night into an open-air gallery. Tonight’s potential display arrives courtesy of a temperamental solar event solar physicist Dr. Tamitha Skove described as a “machine-gun sun” that fired massive X1.1-class solar flares followed by a staggering barrage of ten M-class flares over a 24-hour window. This intense solar activity has sent a sequence of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) — colossal clouds of solar plasma — hurling directly toward Earth’s magnetic shield.

The Southern Lights could return to NSW skies tonight – here’s when and where to look

Skywatchers across southern NSW could be in for a rare celestial spectacle tonight, with the latest aurora forecast raising the possibility of vibrant displays after dark.

It has already been a busy few weeks for skywatchers, with meteor showers, a Strawberry Moon and the possibility of Southern Lights all putting on a show across Australia. Now, another opportunity could be unfolding tonight after an official Aurora Alert was issued by the Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre, confirming a major geomagnetic storm is in progress. While the strongest displays are expected further south, parts of NSW could also have a chance of catching the Aurora Australis if conditions remain favourable. If you’re thinking of heading out after dark, here’s what you need to know and where you’ll have the best chance of seeing it in NSW.

From micromoons to multiple Auroras, there’s been plenty of reason to look up this winter. Yet again, we’re casting our gaze skyward as another Aurora Australis is predicted to turn dark night into a spectacular show of technicolour. The Aurora Australis is forecast to make a return appearance across parts of Australia tonight, July 3rd, with a moderate geomagnetic storm set to reach Earth this evening.Earlier this week, the Sun released an X1.1-class solar flare from an active sunspot known as AR4479, hurling a cloud of electrically charged particles into space — what scientists call a coronal mass ejection, or CME. Most of that plasma is expected to sail north of Earth, but forecasters say we’re still in line for a glancing hit as the outer edge of the cloud brushes past our planet. When those charged particles collide with Earth’s magnetic field, they get funnelled toward the poles, where they interact with gases in the atmosphere and light up as the shimmering curtains of colour we know as the Southern Lights. The stronger the collision, the further from the poles that glow can be seen — which is why tonight’s moderate storm gives southern Australia a shot at spotting it.

The Eta Aquarid meteor shower peaks this week, but will you be able to see it?

The Eta Aquariid meteor shower peaks tonight. Here’s how to watch it

Early birds are in for a celestial treat this week as activity from the Eta Aquariid meteor shower heats up — but they’ll need to keep sharp eyes on the sky.

The shower will peak between Tuesday and Wednesday, with prime views before daybreak on Wednesday, according to the American Meteor Society.

“The only opportunity to see these meteors is during the last few hours before dawn,” said Robert Lunsford, fireball report coordinator with the American Meteor Society.

This brief window is due to the fact that Aquarius, the constellation from which the meteors radiate, will not be visible until about 3 a.m. for much of the globe.

Look Up! The Halley's Comet Meteor Shower Is Just About to Peak

As the Northern Hemisphere progresses through the balmy days of Spring, it's a perfect time to get outside and enjoy one of the best meteor showers our sky has to offer.

Our planet is currently passing through debris left by the passage of Halley's Comet around the Sun, an annual event known as the Eta Aquariids – and the shower of comet dust burning through our atmosphere peaks around May 4 to 6.

The best time to view the shower, according to the American Meteor Society, is around 4 am local time on the morning of 5 May 2026, when the radiant is highest in the sky.
