Kenny not distracted by talk of next contract

Amid a recent loss and speculation about where his future lies, Mitch Kenny has made it clear that his focus remains on his game each week.

The Panthers hooker was one of the best on ground during last week’s loss to the Bulldogs, saying there is no panic at the club following their 32-16 defeat.

“Definitely not panic stations, this is the NRL so to think that you are not going to lose a game every now and then I think is pretty outrageous,” he said.

“A lot of people are probably acting like this is a bigger thing that it should be. You obviously want to win every game and we didn’t do that.

Abdel Abqar: Getafe defender sent off for grabbing genitals of Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sorloth

Atletico Madrid's 1-0 La Liga victory was overshadowed by Getafe defender Abdel Abqar's dismissal for touching the genitals of their striker Alexander Sorloth.

With the hosts leading through Nahuel Molina's long-range strike into the top corner in the eighth minute, Saturday's match descended into chaos seven minutes after the second-half restart.

Referee Miguel Angel Ortiz halted play and indicated a video assistant referee (VAR) check for a possible red-card offence.

Replays on the big screens at Estadio Metropolitano showed Abqar touched Sorloth's groin during an off-the-ball altercation, with the Norwegian forward then pulling his opponent to the ground in retaliation.

Atlético Madrid v Getafe: Unbelievable – Abqar pinches Sorloth in the groin and is sent off following a VAR review

In the 55th minute of Atlético Madrid v Getafe, on matchday 28 of La Liga: the Colchoneros are leading 1–0 thanks to an early goal from former Udinese player Nahuel Molina. Suddenly, Abdel Abqar, the visitors’ defender, is brought down by Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth, seemingly for no reason, with the ball nowhere near him. VAR investigates the incident and finds something truly unusual.

The footage shows that Abqar gave the opponent who was running past him a proper pinch right where the sun doesn’t shine, provoking a furious reaction from the former Villarreal player from Norway. The referee’s decision after reviewing the footage? A red card for the defender, a yellow card for the striker.

😱What was Abqar thinking? Sent off for a forbidden pinch

The match between Atlético de Madrid and Getafe on matchday 28 of LALIGA left one of the most surreal sequences of the season. At the start of the second half, the visiting defender Abdel Abqar was sent off after a peculiar assault on the local forward Alexander Sorloth, in an action that went unnoticed by the human eye but not by technology.

While attention was focused on another part of the field, the VAR alerted referee Ortiz Arias about an incident on the halfway line. After reviewing the footage, it was confirmed that Abqar gave a pinch to the Norwegian attacker's private parts without the ball in play. Sorloth reacted by knocking down the defender, which earned him a yellow card for protesting, but the greater punishment was for the Moroccan.

Demon cleared of concussion, sent for scans on knee

Luker Kentfield is one of two players sent for scans after Friday's abandoned practice match between Melbourne and Richmond

MELBOURNE key forward Luker Kentfield has passed a concussion test, but has been taken to a local hospital for scans on his left knee after a sickening collision during Friday's practice match in Ballarat.

Just before the first of two lightning delays that ultimately saw the match against Richmond abandoned during the third quarter, Kentfield copped contact to the head during a marking attempt before landing awkwardly.

For the Tigers, draftee Sam Cumming will require scans on his already-strapped right shoulder after leaving the field in the first quarter, having shown some nice signs early.

Dees-Tigers practice match abandoned after lightning delay strikes twice

The practice match between Melbourne and Richmond in Ballarat was abandoned before three-quarter time.

Lightning delays struck twice in Ballarat, cancelling the AAMI Community Series match between Melbourne and Richmond with 14 minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Demons led 12.6 (78) to 6.7 (43) when a second break in play was called at 6:15pm, exactly two hours after the first delay at 4:15pm amid stormy conditions, although no rain fell throughout the game.

The first term ran for about 68 minutes and featured 10 goals between the two teams, and there were numerous strikes sighted from afar throughout the game.

‘Are you joking me?’: How Dees, Tigers salvaged something from pre-season chaos

On a bizarre Ballarat day, lightning was striking and thunder was booming as a golden oldie from ABBA blared from the speakers in Melbourne’s rooms as the Demons readied themselves to train … after already playing half-a-match.

If Melbourne and Richmond arrived in Ballarat hoping to strike gold in the old mining town, it instead proved a bust in terms of their preparation for Rd 1 matches against St Kilda and Carlton respectively in a fortnight.

Centrelink cancellation warning as letters sent out over $663 fortnightly payment: 'It's time'

Australians who receive Youth Allowance and ABSTUDY payments from Centrelink are being urged not to ignore an important letter from the government department. If they do, they could risk their payment being stopped or suspended altogether.

If you're entitled to the payments, each September and October Services Australia will send a letter asking about your parents’ or guardian’s income if you are a dependent. This helps work out your payment rate and it may increase or decrease depending on how much your parents earn.

“If you get Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY, and we sent you a letter asking for your parents’ or guardians’ income, it’s time to get it to us,” Services Australia said.

Thousands of Centrelink recipients warned payments could be cut off as deadline looms for income update

Centrelink users who receive Youth Allowance and AUSTUDY have been sent letters asking to declare their parents or guardian’s income if they are dependents.

Youth Allowance is the benefit available to those aged 16 to 24 years old, who are training or studying full time. The payment is currently up to $663.30 per fortnight, for recipients living away from home.

ABSTUDY offers similar support but is specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Services Australia sends out the letter every September to October reports Yahoo, asking for the crucial information, which helps determine the recipient’s payment rate.

Users were warned not to ignore the letter, which could impact payments.

Australians who are beneficiaries of Youth Allowance and ABSTUDY payments from Centrelink are being urged to pay close attention to an important communication from Services Australia that could impact their financial assistance. Each year, during September and October, the government department sends out letters requesting confirmation of the income of recipients’ parents or guardians. Those who do not respond risk having their payments halted or suspended.

For individuals receiving these payments while classified as dependents, it is essential to comply with the requests made in the letter to ensure the correct assessment of payment rates. The information provided can lead to an increase or decrease in benefits, contingent upon the income declared by the parents or guardians.
