    The federal opposition leader has been named as a potential donor to a conservative Liberal group now being investigated by the New South Wales corruption watchdog. Angus Taylor himself is not accused of wrongdoing.

    The Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) on Tuesday held its second day of Operation Rosny hearings into allegations of corruption against people associated with the NSW Liberal party.

    In her opening statement on Monday, counsel assisting Peggy Dwyer SC said evidence would show how a group of young Liberal power brokers known as the “Reformers” allegedly “solicited or accepted” donations, including from prohibited donors, in amounts which were undeclared or exceeded caps, to recruit or renew members to the party.

    In the often shady and absurd world of Sydney politics, the Independent Commission Against Corruption is the ultimate spectator sport. The watchdog’s intense public hearings can ruin careers overnight or, in the case of a small group of lawyers, make them.

    Exhibit A: Dr Peggy Dwyer, SC, the counsel assisting the ICAC in its blockbuster Operation Rosny inquiry. The probe, which will spend the next eight weeks exploring links between the NSW Liberal Party, dodgy developer Jean Nassif and others, commenced on Monday after four years of forensic behind-the-scenes investigative work.

    The diminutive Dwyer, who has played a significant role in several cases of national interest over the past decade, gathered a legion of new fans as she spent three hours delivering a near-flawless 20,533-word opening statement. One WhatsApp chat for a group of Macquarie Street MPs watching the livestream included the not-so-subtle observation: “Wow. She’s f—ing great.”

    Blues coach Laurie Daley has swung the axe, making wholesale changes to his team in a bid to shift his squad’s fortunes and win the Suncorp Stadium decider.

    Daley has made the brutal decision to drop five players, with Brian To’o, Victor Radley, Kotoni Staggs, Api Koroisau and Dylan Lucas not named after featuring in NSW’s Game II loss at the MCG.

    Across the 19 players, a total of six changes were made by Daley in one of the most significant Origin team shake-ups in recent memory.

    Jack Bostock has been named on the wing in To’o’s place, while Stephen Crichton and Bradman Best make up the centres.

    Coach Laurie Daley has wielded the axe on his NSW team ahead of the State of Origin series decider, with Blues mainstay Brian To'o and Brisbane star Kotoni Staggs among four players dropped.

    Needing to defy history to reclaim the shield, Daley also left Newcastle back-rower Dylan Lucas and Wests Tigers hooker Api Koroisau out of the squad for game three on July 8 in Brisbane.

    Bulldogs sign breakout hooker on multi-year deal

    Post‑WrestleMania shake‑up: WWE releases begin, notable names included

    After taking the wrestling world by storm with WrestleMania 42, WWE has started letting stars go.

    The company began releasing wrestlers on Friday, April 24, less than one week after holding its flagship event in Las Vegas. While some wrestlers leave throughout the year — whether on their own terms or not — WWE typically does a mass release on a yearly basis, last done in February 2025. With the proverbial calendar turning the page into a new season following WrestleMania, WWE is making roster moves now.

    There have been notable names that have reportedly been released or they have confirmed it themselves. The list includes former champions and people that just were in the ring in the past month. Here are all the updates as WWE departures are underway:

    Nikki Cross, Alba Fyre and Zoey Stark Among New Round of WWE Releases

    Every member of The Wyatt Sicks are reportedly gone from WWE, and they are unfortunately not the only ones.

    Former WWE Women's Champion Nikki Cross was the first departure announced. She took to social media Friday afternoon to break the news that her tenure with WWE had come to an end after more than a decade.

    Cross had spent the better part of the past two years as a member of the Wyatt Sicks on SmackDown, but will soon be writing the next chapter of her professional wrestling career. As will the group's leader Uncle Uncle Howdy and Joe Gacy.

    Energy blueprint shake-up as 'market moves faster than the systems plan'

    The body that runs Australia's biggest power market has scaled back its plans for high-voltage power lines and wind farms to meet the country's green energy targets.

    Instead, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has forecast Australia will need to rely more heavily on big solar farms, batteries and households if it is to get 82 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

    The agency has today released the draft version of its latest "integrated system plan", which it describes as a road map for decarbonising Australia's electricity system.

    The capacity of Australia’s main electricity grid will need to triple by 2050 – including a fivefold expansion of large-scale wind, solar and storage – under the most likely development path, the national energy market operator says.

    The estimate is included in the Australian Energy Market Operator (Aemo) draft “integrated system plan” for the national electricity market, the power grid that connects the five eastern states and the ACT.

    Coal-fired power until 2049 as energy grid costs rise to $128b

    The Australian Energy Market Operator has pushed out its forecast for the end of coal power in the eastern states by 11 years and slashed the amount of new transmission lines it expects by 2050, but says the cost of the system as it transitions towards more renewables will still increase to $128 billion.

    Cost estimates for new poles and wires projects have surged by up to 100 per cent since 2024, while the timing for building them has also been pushed out after extensive consultation for the operator’s draft 2026 blueprint for the power grid.
