Australians to share in a $270,000 refund from Origin Energy

Thousands of Australians will share in a hefty payout after one of the country’s largest energy retailers was accused of misleading customers on the cost of its plans.

Origin Energy will refund $270,000 spread across more than 4500 customers after the consumer watchdog analysed claims that the company may have misrepresented some of its pricing options.

Origin will be forced to give refunds to more than 4500 customers. Chris Hopkins

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) began the investigation after a complaint from consumer advocacy group CHOICE.

The group accused Origin of telling customers its “Ongoing Saver” plan was cheaper on a long-term basis than the “Basic” plan.

Refunds have been promised to more than 4500 Origin Energy customers following a consumer watchdog probe into misleading power plans.

The offer in question misleadingly implied ongoing savings despite some customers paying more than the basic plan, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission alleges.

Credits or refunds of roughly $60 will be available and the offending "Ongoing Saver" plan nixed.

$60 refund for thousands of Australians

Thousands of Australians will get a $60 refund from Origin Energy after the energy retailer overcharged 4500 customers.

According to the ACCC, some households who signed up to Origin's "ongoing savers" residential electricity plan were charged more than those on the "basic" energy plan.

This investigation began as part of the ACCC's response to Choice complaints that raised concerns about energy providers falsely representing value to consumers through confusing plan names.

Commissioner Anna Brakey said Origin's ongoing savers plan didn't have the value the name suggested.

"Energy plans are complex, and the mix of usage and supply charges makes it difficult for many consumers to assess potential savings," Ms Brakey said.

Broker market share surges to new record high

Brokers have captured their largest slice of new home‑loan business on record.

The latest MFAA Quarterly Market Share Report, based on settlement data from major aggregators and compiled by Cotality, shows brokers were involved in 81 per cent of all new residential loans written in the March 2026 quarter – the highest figure recorded since the series began more than a decade ago.

The March result represents a decisive step up from already‑elevated levels.

How lenders are changing the game through platform innovations

As competition across the sector heats up, how are lenders innovating to differentiate themselves?

For this year’s finalists in the Innovator of the Year – Lender Technology Platform category, the answer lies in the technology, systems, and processes that support brokers behind the scenes.

As brokers demand greater speed, transparency, and certainty, lenders are investing heavily in digital tools, automation, and platform enhancements designed to reduce friction throughout the lending journey.

From digital verification and automated documentation to broker portal upgrades and streamlined onboarding experiences, this year’s finalists have embraced a range of approaches to improving the broker and customer experience.

Brokers hit record high, settling 81% of new home loans

Brokers continue to strengthen their grip on Australia's home loan market.

Australian homeowners are increasingly turning to mortgage brokers for financial guidance, driving broker market share to new heights, according to the latest insights from the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA).

The broking industry group revealed Wednesday that mortgage brokers settled 81% of all new residential home loans during the March 2026 quarter, up from 76.7% in the December 2025 quarter, and the highest market share ever. Crossing the 80% threshold puts Australia among only three countries globally — alongside the UK and the Netherlands — where brokers originate more than 80% of home loans. It's also a dramatic increase from 55.3% market share recorded in March 2018.

Metallica share two official live videos from their show in Greece

The “Creeping Death” and “King Nothing” performances from Metallica‘s 2026 “M72” world tour kick-off concert, which took place on May 9 at the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in Athens, have been professionally shot and released, as per Blabbermouth. Gojira and Knocked Loose provided support throughout the show, which was Metallica’s first Greek performance since 2010 in Athens’ Olympic Stadium. According to reports, 85,000 people attended the sold-out performance, which was a part of the “M72” world tour in promotion of Metallica’s 2023 release of “72 Seasons,” their eleventh studio album. The ensemble was performing in Greece for the fifth time. In 1993, 1999, 2007, and 2010, Metallica performed in the nation.

Daniel Craig spotted in Athens attending Metallica concert on May 9

Daniel Craig attended Metallica’s sold-out M72 World Tour concert at Athens Olympic Stadium on May 9, 2026, where the legendary heavy metal band achieved a historic milestone. The event drew over 90,000 fans, setting a new attendance record for the iconic Greek venue. The former James Bond star was spotted enjoying the performance, becoming part of one of the metal community’s most significant moments this year.

Metallica made a thunderous comeback to Greece after their last performance in the country more than a decade ago. The M72 World Tour—the band’s ambitious dual-stage configuration featuring two separate setlists—opened its European dates at Athens Olympic Stadium (officially known as the Spyros Louis Olympic Stadium). This venue choice held special significance: the facility hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics and has been a landmark for major international events since its construction.

METALLICA Shares Pro-Shot Video Of 'Creeping Death' And 'King Nothing' Performances From May 2026 Athens Concert

METALLICA has shared professionally filmed video of the "Creeping Death" and "King Nothing" performances from the band's 2026 "M72" world tour kick-off concert, which took place on May 9 at the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in Athens. Support at the gig came from GOJIRA and KNOCKED LOOSE.

METALLICA's performance at Athens's Olympic Stadium marked the band's first Greek appearance since 2010. The sold-out show — reportedly attended by 85,000 fans — was part of the "M72" world tour in support of METALLICA's eleventh studio album, "72 Seasons", which came out in 2023. It was the group's fifth performance in Greece. METALLICA previously played in the country in 1993, 1999, 2007 and 2010.

METALLICA launched the "M72" world tour in Amsterdam in April 2023 and has since performed for an estimated four million fans worldwide. As with all tour dates, the band is donating a portion of ticket sales to local charities through METALLICA's All Within My Hands foundation. Established in 2017, the foundation has raised more than $20 million, supporting vocational and technical education, food insecurity relief and disaster response initiatives.

Shrinking season 3 episode 11 (finale): Could Paul still stay?

At this particular moment in time, we tend to think that a lot of people out there are aware that Shrinking season 3 episode 11 marks the all-important finale. Are you ready for what that means?

Well, we have to acknowledge that this is a story that could offer up a great deal of closure. Heck, given that at one point the comedy was pitched as a three-season arc, we do wonder if it will feel like a series finale. (The series has actually been renewed.) Are things going to end in a way where characters drift apart? It is fair to wonder given that Alice is going to college and at the same time, Paul is planning to move to the East Coast.

NewJeans’ full-member comeback is thrown into doubt after Ador announced the termination of its exclusive contract with member Danielle.

In its official statement released Monday, Ador outlined the status of ongoing discussions with Minji, Hanni and Danielle, who had previously expressed a willingness to return to the company after the Seoul Central District Court ruled on Oct. 30 that all five members must honor their exclusive contracts with Ador through 2029.

"Following the court's ruling, we’ve held numerous conversations with Minji, Hanni, Danielle and their families,” the label said in the statement. “Hanni, along with her family, visited Korea and engaged in discussions with us. Through sincere dialogue, she made the decision to remain with Ador, respecting the court’s decision.”
