Police have shot a man in Newcastle after he allegedly threatened officers with a weapon.
The Northern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team attended a unit block on Honeysuckle Drive about 8:30am to arrest a man wanted on five outstanding warrants.
Officers forced entry to the unit and were confronted by a man allegedly armed with a knife.
Police said two tasers were deployed, but both were ineffective against the man.
It is alleged the man continued to threaten officers with the weapon before a police officer shot him in the shoulder.

THE actions of police officers, who busted down the door of a Honeysuckle apartment and were confronted by a "serious offender" holding a knife, have been hailed as "very heroic".
Just hours after the standoff, which ended in a 36-year-old man wanted on five outstanding warrants being shot in the shoulder by police, Northern Region Commander acting Assistant Commissioner Shane Cribb commended their bravery.
"Police don't come to work each day to get involved in these activities. They don't come to work to use their firearm on any occasion.
