BTS comeback show sells out immediately as 260,000 fans set to descend on Seoul

Booking system freezes and screens crash amid rush of fans trying to secure tickets to 21 March free concert

Tickets for BTS’s comeback concert in central Seoul were snapped up almost immediately on Monday night, with authorities expecting an estimated 260,000 fans to descend for the K-pop group’s first full performance in nearly four years.

At one point, more than 100,000 people flooded the booking website when sales opened at 8pm for the free concert at Gwanghwamun square on 21 March, causing screens to crash and booking systems to freeze.

About 15,000 tickets for the concert at the historic plaza in front of Gyeongbokgung palace vanished almost immediately.

BTS concert prompts closure of Gyeongbokgung, museums and theaters

Less than three weeks before BTS takes the stage at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21, the city is preparing for large crowds, with authorities announcing safety measures and temporary closures of nearby historic sites and cultural venues.

The Korea Heritage Service said Gyeongbokgung, the main royal palace of Joseon (1392-1910) in Gwanghwamun, will be closed, with its parking lot shuttered and public access restricted.

Officials said an emergency task force for palaces would be activated to conduct intensive inspections and on-site monitoring in key areas, including Yeongchumun, the west gate, and Geonchunmun, the east gate.

The National Palace Museum of Korea, which sits adjacent to the palace, will also suspend operations on the day of the concert.

It takes two: As BTS announces ‘Arirang’ festival, ARMY brings the confetti

The countdown has begun. As BTS gears up for its first post-military release, “Arirang,” Seoul is buzzing with anticipation for what is expected to be one of K-pop’s biggest comebacks yet — and so are the septet’s devoted fans, ARMY. Known for their dedication, ARMY has already started the party. The celebratory mood is taking hold, with fans themselves at the helm, organizing their own events in eager anticipation of welcoming their favorite group back.

“This is BTS’s first post-military group comeback, so I’m obviously really excited,” said Kim Hae-ri, who is running a cafe called Haeri Coffee in Seongsu, eastern Seoul. On Feb. 18, her coffee shop near the Han River was adorned with a large photo of J-Hope, along with merchandise featuring him decorated across the cozy space. Often referred to as "birthday cafes," such events are part of K-pop fan culture. Fans typically collaborate with local coffee shops to hand out fan-made merchandise and small gifts to celebrate an idol's birthday, but as Kim, both a business owner and a devoted ARMY, organized the celebratory event on her own to mark the rapper’s birthday.

Motorsport 360 TV show to debut on Fox Sports, Kayo

THE rumours are true: Motorsport 360 is coming to Fox Sports and Kayo Sports in 2026.

The announcement came amid the official launch of the Supercars season in Sydney on Tuesday, with CEO James Warburton revealing it will be a weekly AFL 360/NRL 360-style show, devoted to motorsport.

The subscription television broadcaster and streamer has committed to producing 43 episodes this year, which would likely see it run from late February to mid-December.

Further details are expected to be announced by Fox Sports, including hosts, duration, plus which day and what time it will be shown and released each week.

It’s widely expected that now-former Supercars commentator Mark Skaife will be one of the show’s hosts.

Supercars news: Fox Sports green lights Motorsport 360 show

The project has been in the works for some time with outgoing Supercars caller Mark Skaife expected to be the figurehead of what has been dubbed Motorsport 360.

Fox Sports is understood to have agreed to a 43-week run for the show, which will focus on – but not necessarily be limited to – the major motorsport codes in the Fox family, Supercars and F1.

While the show has been championed by Supercars CEO James Warburton it will be produced independently of Supercars Media in a bid to ensure complete freedom of opinions.

Should the format follow the ‘360’ concept as expected, Skaife would be joined by a yet-to-be-named host and a rotating cast of voices from within the sport including drivers, journalists and more.

Hull KR on top of the world after resisting thrilling Brisbane fightback

Rugby league is never short on incredible stories but even by this sport’s lofty standards, Hull KR’s rise to the greatest club side in the game feels too far-fetched for even the greatest of Hollywood script-writers.

For 40 years, Hull KR have not just been in the shadows in this rugby league-obsessed city, second fiddle to their bitter rivals whose home they filled to be crowned world champions for the very first time, they have been in the sport’s entire wilderness. Until now.

At the turn of the century, there very nearly wasn’t even a Hull KR. Crippled by financial ruin and with crowds barely exceeding 1,000 on occasions as they languished in the second and third tiers, the notion of nights like these ever becoming a reality was nothing other than impossible for a club suffocated by the grip of failure.

Welcome to new cold war as world descends on Italy amid global political chaos | Winter Olympics 2026

Organisers are hoping for a celebration of winter sport at Milano Cortina 2026 but tensions will not be far from the surface

A short stroll from where the grandees of the International Olympic Committee are staying in Milan sits the Museum of Illusions – a place devoted to magic and misdirection. Mirrors distort. Perspectives shift. And nothing is quite what it seems. It is an apposite metaphor for these Winter Olympics, which officially open in Italy on Friday.

Over the following 16 days, the world will be enraptured by the dazzle and spin of these Games: downhill skiers bombing down mountains at 95mph, snowboarders twirling like gyroscopes, the balletic grace of the world’s best skaters. But in Milano Cortina a fresh cold war is also brewing amid global political chaos.

Get Ready for This Year’s Undemocratic, Debt-Ridden, and Mobster-Infused Winter Olympics

ICE thugs in the streets, Mafia meddling, and billions in waste—seems like the Games are off to a great start.

People take part in a demonstration against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games in Milan, Italy, on January 31, 2026.

On February 6, the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics kick off with an opening ceremony featuring the likes of Mariah Carey and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. With lagging ticket sales among locals and protests clogging the streets of Milan to decry the presence of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as security for JD Vance’s delegation, these Olympics already bear the stink of political discontent. When combined with the Beijing 2022 Winter Games and the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Milano Cortina arrives during the Olympics’ most politically charged inflection point since the back-to-back boycotts of the early 1980s.

English pop star Ed Sheeran is heading back to Perth this weekend for his first shows at Optus Stadium in three years, but his tour company does not expect the star to break his own lofty attendance record set during his last visit.

Sheeran claimed the State’s ticketed event record on March 12, 2023 when a whopping 73,092 fans flooded the Optus Stadium gates to see him live for his sole local performance that year.

The Shape of You singer will launch the Australian leg of his Loop Tour in Perth on Saturday, with Frontier Touring projecting each of his Saturday and Sunday night performances to draw crowds upwards of 55,000, or 110,000 in total.

Ed Sheeran cancels Perth Stadium gig after learning he won’t be opening for the Perth Scorchers

Ed Sheeran has made a frank admission to his fans that he only booked Perth Stadium this weekend because he thought he’d get a chance to see the mighty Perth Scorchers in full flight.

His management had to break the hard news to him today that the Scorchers won the final last week and he’s just another bandwagoning johnny come lately.

Wonder Man review – a Marvel TV show with almost no superhero action … and it’s all the better for it

This gem of a series, about an actor with superpowers, is a clever, tender take on male friendship and the film industry. It’s a triumph of storytelling – and a masterclass in acting

We are back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you feel fatigue stealing over you already, banish it! It’s going to be OK. Even though Wonder Man is (by my incredulous reckoning) about the 30th MCU series produced by Marvel Television and companions – from the dizzying heights of WandaVision to … well, She-Hulk – it is a little gem.

And it is quite little, in MCU terms. Not only are the eight episodes only around half an hour long but they also eschew spectacle in favour of storytelling. It’s a radical idea, but you never know, it might catch on.

Wonder Man review: Marvel's meta new series is 'one of the best MCU shows to date'

Created by Shang-Chi and Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest (the latter of whom serves as showrunner for the season), Wonder Man is the second show to be released under the more character-driven Marvel Spotlight banner. That’s notable given just how different this latest MCU entry feels: there are no traditional heroes and villains here, and the superpowered action sequences are limited. Instead, we’re treated to a show which is less a superhero moviemaking satire — à la The Franchise — and more a meditation on acting as a profession, told through an unlikely but beautiful bromance between Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Trevor Slattery (Sir Ben Kingsley). It’s a winning approach.

DAVID BYRNE: ‘WHO IS THE SKY?’ TOUR – SIDNEY MYER MUSIC BOWL, MELBOURNE

There’s a danger or even gamble in experiencing one of your favourite artists decades after you first became enamoured with them. The possibility hangs that the memories might be crushed by a mediocre vocal delivery, a disappointing setlist or below par performance. These were thoughts I pondered while arriving at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl to witness  former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne on his Who Is The Sky? 2026 Australia tour.

Seeing Talking Heads on their 1984 Stop Making Sense tour of Australia remains one of my all-time favourite concert events. The gradual building of the stage, the escalation in show dynamics, the big suit, the sheer joy of the climax. Hard to beat. The 2002 Lazy Eyeball tour didn’t have the same impact for me, the Utopia tour was a huge leap in theatrics but looking back, all along the seeds were being sown for what we were about to bear witness to at the bowl tonight. David Byrne is an innovator, a futurist, a commentator on everyday life and all of his artistic wisdom has been collated and installed into this new show.

Apple's biggest sci-fi show of 2026 already has one huge glaring flaw

William Gibson's cyberpunk dystopia is uniquely suited to the animated medium

The term “cyberpunk” conjures images of futuristic cityscapes, simulated realities, and technologically advanced cyborgs. While this sci-fi subgenre had its origins in the literary New Wave movement of the 1960s and ‘70s, the foundational tenets of cyberpunk were established by William Gibson’s Neuromancer, the first entry in his influential Sprawl trilogy. Gibson’s 1984 novel invented key concepts associated with cyberpunk, including the act of jacking into the matrix and the existence of cyberspace as a dangerous digital frontier.

Of course, Gibson wasn’t the only writer to sculpt this now-oversaturated subgenre, but Neuromancer shaped the cyberpunk landscape for decades to come. Everything from Ghost in the Shell to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners owes a debt to Gibson, as the book ventures beyond genre aesthetics to carve out a dystopian ethos filled with cyberhackers and AI antagonists. Numerous attempts have been made to adapt Neuromancer into film, with the likes of music-video director Chris Cunningham and Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice, In the Tall Grass) being attached at some point. But none of these efforts bore fruit, as the novel’s eccentric worldbuilding proved unadaptable to the big screen.

Netflix Just Added The 30 Year Old Keanu Reeves Sci-Fi That Helped The Matrix Get Made

Netflix has finally added a sci-fi cult-classic that people either love or hate, with very little in between. The film was such an inspiration, in fact, that it was what helped the Wachowskis, famous sibling duo directors, get The Matrix made. Fearing that their initial pitch for what would become their biggest movie was too weird, they actually used this film as a template—and the studios took the bait, giving us one of the most iconic sci-fi movies of all time.

Johnny Mnemonic, based on the story by William Gibson and starring Keanu Reeves, centers around a data courier named Johnny (Reeves) who possesses a secret stash of information that was implanted into his mind. However, if Johnny can’t retrieve and access the data within 48 hours, it will self-destruct, killing him in the process. Accompanied by Jane, played by Dina Meyer, a physically enhanced bodyguard, Johnny heads out on the perilous journey to acquire the passwords that will save his life, only to discover that he’s being hunted by violent criminals and the businessman who hired them, all desperate to get their hands on the data he holds.

Apple TV's 'Neuromancer': Everything We Know About the Long-Awaited Sci-Fi Adaptation

There is no denying it, Apple TV+ is killing it in the sci-fi space. Arguably more so than any other streaming platform at the moment, with titles such as Severance, Silo, Foundation, For All Mankind, Shining Girls, Invasion, Strange Planet, WondLa, and Pluribus, to name but a few. Yet, on the horizon for the streaming platform is what is easily its most ambitious and anticipated project to date: William Gibson's Neuromancer.

Previously deemed "unfilmable" due to the complex narrative structure, use of inner monologs, and abstract concepts laid out in the novel, the work has nonetheless been highly sought after for an adaptation, given that the original story is considered a landmark of the cyberpunk genre and highly influential within sci-fi. Yet, the team behind bringing Neuromancer to the screen for the first time appears to be on the right track, based on everything we know so far about the upcoming Apple TV+ Original.

The New South Wales premier has urged Sydneysiders to come out for New Year’s Eve, saying the heightened police presence was not due to any specific threat but a response to keep people safe.

More than 2,500 police will be deployed throughout the Sydney metropolitan area for New Year’s Eve celebrations and some will be carrying long-arm weapons.

“We need to show defiance in the face of this evil and the best way of doing that is to spend some time with your friends and your family on New Year’s Eve on Sydney Harbour,” Minns said.

An image of a menorah will be projected onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge to honour the 15 people killed in the Bondi terror attack.

The City of Sydney initially planned to light up the bridge with an image of a dove with the words "peace".

In an open letter on Monday, Jewish creatives criticised the "generic" use of the dove and urged for a "Jewish-specific symbol".

The City of Sydney has made last-minute changes to Sydney's New Year's Eve tribute to the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack, after receiving an open letter signed by Jewish creatives.
