    Bird flu might not have hit the Southern Riverina region, but those who show birds are not taking any chances.

    Hold tight – we’re checking permissions before loading more content

    Organisers of the Finley and Berrigan shows have, in the past few days, cancelled the poultry competitions at both upcoming events.

    This is due to the uncertainty and as a precautionary step to protect poultry and exhibitors from the current outbreak of H5N1 (avian influenza).

    The cancellation decision for the Finley Show, which takes place on September 6, was announced on Friday.

    The cancellations came after a fifth case of H5 avian influenza (bird flu) was confirmed in NSW on Saturday, with more than 200 nationally.

    Organisers of the annual Myrtleford Show say planning for the October event is going full steam ahead, including poultry and avian exhibits remaining a fixture, despite the slow spread of bird flu across parts of the country.

    Myrtleford and District Agricultural and Pastoral Society Inc. have been in contact with the Department of Agriculture and have been notified there is currently no need to remove the poultry and the avian exhibits for this year's show, to be held Saturday 24 October at the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve.

    Leonor, who's best known for rocking her blonde hair either straight or in a sleek slick-back pony or bun, surprised everyone on the balmy summer evening rocking her hair in slightly messy, softly textured waves, giving the impression that she had shown up to dinner after a day at the beach. The royal kept her signature middle part and let the trendy beachy waves, which cascaded past her shoulders, frame her face naturally without a blow-out.

    Queen Letizia of Spain, her daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia, and her mother-in-law wore one of summer’s most popular shoe styles as they hosted a dinner for authorities at the Marivent Palace on Tuesday in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

    The royals joined King Felipe VI at the event, and the women all wore different variations of metallic gold shoes. Queen Letizia wore a white, striped midi dress by Sybilla featuring elbow-length sleeves and directional sheer striping. While the dress is a new look for her, she paired the garment with a pair of gold Aquazzura sandals she has previously worn.

    Summer Reception at the Palacio de Marivent

    Queen Sofia, the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia joined King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain as they held their traditional Summer Reception at the Palacio de Marivent in Palma de Mallorca on August 4th.

    King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were joined by Queen Sofia, the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia as they held their traditional reception at Marivent Palace to a representation of the different sectors and institutions of the society of the Balearic Islands.

    This reception, now a regular fixture on the summer calendar in the Balearic capital, brought together around 600 guests. Among those in attendance were representatives of the State, regional and local authorities, as well as prominent members of public and private institutions in the Balearic Islands.

    The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says El Niño conditions are already established in the tropical Pacific and are expected to intensify through the end of the year, while some forecast models suggest the event could rival or even exceed the strength of historic El Niño episodes.

    El Niño is a natural climate pattern that occurs when sea-surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean become warmer than average. Those warmer waters influence atmospheric circulation around the globe, altering rainfall, storm tracks and temperatures far beyond the Pacific basin.

    UNITED NATIONS (AP) — A strengthening El Nino has already broken records for intensity at its early stages, and it likely will spark even more wild weather worldwide as it grows, “adding fuel to a planet already on fire,” United Nations officials warned Friday.

    A key area of the Pacific Ocean used to measure the strength of El Nino this week reached its warmest and most intense level ever recorded for the 15th week since it formed, which is early in its lifetime, scientists at Columbia University reported.

    India’s monsoon rains in danger as UN chief warns planet is ‘on fire’

    António Guterres says strengthening El Niño will help push the world’s climate crisis into ‘uncharted territory’

    India’s monsoon is in danger and hotter, drier conditions are forecast across much of the world as a stronger El Niño weather system is taking hold, weather experts have warned.

    António Guterres, the UN secretary general, said the strengthening El Niño was “adding fuel to a planet already on fire” and pushing the world into “uncharted territory”.

    The El Niño system will strengthen from August to October, which will bring higher temperatures globally, with increasing rainfall in some regions while others suffer drought, according to data and forecasts released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on Friday.

    Hilton, 45, who shares son Phoenix Barron, 3, and daughter London Marilyn, 2, with her husband, Carter Reum, 45, posted a sweet clip of her children touring the palatial mini mansion that she had built for her five dogs, revealing that the youngsters were so impressed with the property they declared they are “moving in.”

    The WA government has delivered a big-spending budget, focused on housing, health, economic infrastructure and cost of living relief.

    Every West Australian with a driver's licence will get a $100 handout to help with skyrocketing fuel costs, but the electricity subsidy will not be revived. 

    Premier Roger Cook warned of economic headwinds ahead amid continuing global uncertainty. 

    Western Australia is once again rolling in cash with today's big-spending state budget revealing another bumper surplus, with a focus on funding health, housing and infrastructure projects.

    But amid surging cost-of-living pressure, the budget offers some relief — including a $100 fuel payment for everyone with a valid driver's licence — as well as some cuts.

    Saffioti takes aim at rate hike as housing takes centre stage in WA budget

    West Australian Treasurer Rita Saffioti claims the government’s big spend on housing will not further inflate prices, with the housing crisis being firmly in the budget’s sights this year.

    A total of $4.7 billion has been poured into housing, including $694 million for DevelopmentWA to create thousands of new lots across the state through the development of residential land.

    However, when questioned whether a $297 million housing tax package including an increase in stamp duty concession and exemption thresholds would lead to house price inflation, Saffioti said the primary goal was increasing supply.

    “It is really a range of new initiatives, so it is an additional investment in shared equity, we have additional investment in lifting the threshold for land,” she said.
