Man United Turn an Eye Toward the Future With Latest Midfield Signing

Manchester United have officially announced the arrival of 18-year-old Colombian defensive midfielder Cristian Orozco, one of the most highly-coveted teenagers in all of South American soccer.

Orozco landing in Old Trafford has been in the works for almost a year. Man United struck a deal to sign Orozco last September, but as per FIFA rules, the young Colombian couldn’t make the move to England until he came of age.

He’s continued to play for Fortaleza FC in Colombia’s top-flight ever since, but made the move to England to join United after he turned 18 on July 13. Now, the Red Devils have officially unveiled Orozco as their latest midfield addition.

The Perth Bears have added another Premiership winner to their roster with Jack Cole signing a three-year contract with the club to start in 2027.

The 23-year-old half has played 19 First Grade games for the Penrith Panthers and was a member of their premiership winning squads in 2022 and 2024.

“I’m stoked to sign with Perth and be a part of their historic inaugural squad,” Cole said.

“I believe this club can help me continue to develop as a player and I’m excited about the opportunity to move to Perth and get out amongst the community.

“The roster is really starting to take shape, and it will be an honour to run out in front of our home fans at HBF Park next year.”

Wakefield hooker Smoothy to join Perth

Tyson Smoothy has previously had spells in the NRM with Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed hooker Tyson Smoothy will join new NRL side Perth Bears at the end of the season after being released from his contract on compassionate grounds.

The 27-year-old Australian joined Trin on a three-year deal for this campaign but head coach Daryl Powell said earlier this month that he would be leaving at the end of 2026.

Smoothy has scored four tries in 21 appearances in all competitions to help Wakefield to second in Super League.

"Tyson has made a fantastic contribution to the squad this season and while we would love to keep him, we are conscious of family circumstances and his desire to return home," director of rugby Ste Mills told the club website., external

Twente have signed 33-year-old striker Wout Weghorst on a two-year contract at the club where Erik ten Hag is technical director, closing off a potential route for Marco Silva’s Benfica and pushing them towards other attacking options.

He is currently with the Netherlands squad at the World Cup and is still awaiting his first minutes at the tournament.

Weghorst had been considered by Benfica, particularly under former coach José Mourinho, but is not viewed as a priority by the hierarchy at this stage of the market.

The Tully Tigers junior has appeared in 98 NRL games, including 73 in Cowboys colours across two separate stints.

After being named NYC Player of the Year in 2017, Clifford made his NRL debut in 2018, playing alongside Johnathan Thurston in the halves.

Clifford departed the club for the Knights in 2021 where he would spend two seasons, before moving to the UK Super League with Hull FC in 2023.

He returned home to North Queensland in 2024 and played halfback in the Cowboys' Elimination Final victory over the Knights.

Kotek signs bills boosting housing supply, tightening rules on single-family home buys

WOODBURN, Ore. (KATU) — Gov. Tina Kotek signed six housing bills at a ceremonial event at Woodburn City Hall aimed at expanding housing options for middle-income Oregonians, seniors and farmworkers as the state works to address a long-term housing shortage.

“Housing affordability is a top priority for Oregonians, and it’s directly related to housing supply,” Kotek said. “The reforms we’ve advanced are helping turn the corner on this crisis, and these new bills will keep expanding access to homes for Oregonians at all income levels.”

The package includes House Bill 4082, which is designed to speed development of affordable housing for seniors and manufactured home communities by allowing cities to designate land for individuals 55 and over and/or manufactured housing. The bill is intended to help communities add hundreds of affordable homes statewide while easing pressure on the broader housing market.

WOODBURN, Oregon — Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed a package of housing bills Wednesday designed to make homes more affordable by increasing supply and reducing development barriers across the state.

Speaking at a bill signing event in Woodburn, Kotek said expanding housing production is central to addressing affordability challenges.

“These bills represent another significant dose of progress on one of the most pressing issues we face as a state,” Kotek said.

The legislation is intended to streamline regulations and speed up housing construction for first-time buyers, seniors and residents across a range of income levels. The new laws give municipalities additional authority to expand urban growth boundaries and aim to make state funding more accessible for developers building mixed-income housing.

Kotek signs 6 bills focused on lowering housing costs and making it easier to build

WOODBURN Ore. (KPTV) – Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed six housing bills on Wednesday, with several focused on reducing bureaucratic limits and making it easier to build different types of housing.

One bill, HB 4128, is significant because it prohibits institutional real estate investors from purchasing or offering to purchase a single-family home unless it has been listed for sale for at least 90 days. This law applies to groups that own 2,500 or more single-family homes and manage $1 billion dollars or more in assets.

Adds to a temporary UGB addition program an option for each city or Metro to also add to its urban growth boundary a site for manufactured dwellings, prefabricated structures or manufactured dwelling parks, or for housing that is predominantly for older persons and affordable for households with incomes not more than 120 percent of area median income.
