    Kennett slams AFL ‘protection racket’ as concussion saga deepens

    Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett has blasted the AFL Players Association and St Kilda president Andrew Bassat for defending AFL chairman Craig Drummond over the game’s concussion crisis, as the escalating fallout splits club presidents and powerbrokers.

    Geelong Football Club has until the end of Tuesday to submit its response to the AFL’s investigation, after the club’s board held a crisis meeting on Monday to shape its reply and the Cats braced for a potential massive penalty over the secret concussion deal with player Jake Kolodjashnij.

    Geelong player ‘devastated’ as career ‘effectively done’ after concussion saga

    Isaac Smith says Geelong’s Jake Kolodjashnij is “devastated” and coming to terms with how his career is “effectively done”, as the club confirmed he would not be playing this weekend due to the concussion waiver saga that has rocked the AFL.

    Geelong released a statement on Tuesday night confirming that the 31-year-old wouldn’t be available for selection in either AFL or VFL level.

    “The care and wellbeing of Jake remains the club’s priority, and the club will continue to support him and his family through this period,” a statement said.

    It’s unclear whether the decision came from Geelong or Kolodjashnij.

    AFL Commission hires independent lawyer to decide Cats’ sanction

    The AFL Commission has engaged independent legal counsel to help decide the outcome of the Geelong concussion probe.

    The commission and chief executive Andrew Dillon met on Saturday and engaged a senior legal figure who will act directly for the commission in deciding whether the Cats are sanctioned or not over the club’s secret agreement with Jake Kolodjashnij.

    The premiership defender, who has a history of concussion, waived some of his legal rights in the event of further head knocks.

    The independent lawyer, who a source confirmed is a respected King’s Counsel, will form a position on what AFL rules, if any, have been broken.

    Petrol prices have surged since the February 28 start of the US-Israel war on Iran. Trump’s demand for lower prices in the US comes as he faces criticism for launching the war on Iran and for its impact on costs for millions of Americans – and as November’s midterm US elections draw closer.

    US President Donald Trump on Monday called on Chevron and other major oil companies to lower retail fuel prices for consumers, saying the industry should pass its gains on to Americans, Anadolu reports.

    In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Chevron’s performance but urged the company and the broader oil industry to reduce prices at the pump.

    “That goes for other Oil Companies as well…and get your consumer (retail!) Oil Prices down, now!” Trump said.

    Legendary actor Ed Harris said he almost quit Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch after feeling “misled” over his role.

    The 75-year-old was billed as a main character in the Taylor Sheridan series, playing Everitt McKinney, an ally to Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, but said he felt “misled” by the first season.

    “Midway through the first season, I was ready to say, ‘get me the f— out of here,’ to tell you the truth,” the veteran star told Variety.

    “I didn’t feel I was being used. I felt very misled. Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do, and that I was one of the four main characters. And that wasn’t really the case.”

    Ed Harris does not sound satisfied with his role on “Dutton Ranch.” At the Monday night premiere of Apple TV’s “The Dink,” Harris told Variety‘s Marc Malkin that he felt “misled” about the importance of his role in the “Yellowstone” spinoff, and that halfway through filming Season 1, he was telling his team to “get me the fuck out of here.”

    “Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters,” Harris said. “And that wasn’t really the case.”

    The much-watched drama, which tells of the romance between John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette, features Hannah as a character, played by Dree Hemingway. Hannah and JFK Jr were in a relationship in the early 1990s.

    “I have generally chosen not to respond to media coverage of me,” Hannah writes. “I have long believed that engaging with distortion often amplifies it. But a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette features a character using my name and presents her as me. The choice to portray her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate was no accident.”

    Union slams ANZ over job cuts

    Finance Sector Union (FSU) condemned ANZ’s decision to axe 66 jobs across multiple Suncorp bank divisions, including business banking and home lending.

    ANZ confirmed that 197 roles at Suncorp Bank will be impacted by its changes, with 66 workers expecting to lose their jobs, with the majority of these roles being based in Brisbane.

    Four-time NBA MVP James produced some impressive dunks amid scoring 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field as he combined with fellow superstar Luka Doncic (34 points) to ensure the Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak in Sunday's home match.

    Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will turn 41 on Tuesday. Amid all of his records and accomplishments over his legendary 23-year NBA career, the fact that he's still producing at a high level despite joining the league in 2003 might be his most impressive feat.

    James seems to believe that's the case as well. When asked about his age Sunday night, James referenced a commercial he shot in 2023, in which he defeats "Father Time," played by Jason Momoa, in various activities.

    James reflected on still performing at a high level despite filming that commercial a few years ago, saying, "I'm kicking [Father Time's] ass on the back nine."
