'Same old story' for Slot as Wolves 'keep fighting'

Arne Slot began the week by saying that he found most Premier League games no longer a joy to watch.

The Liverpool boss certainly won't have changed his mind after his side's performance in their 2-1 defeat at bottom club Wolves.

As Rob Edwards raced down the touchline in Jose Mourinho-esque fashion to celebrate Andre's 94th-minute winner, Liverpool felt very different emotions. The sight of the away end at Molineux emptying before the final whistle summed it up.

Yet again this season, just when it seemed as if Liverpool were making progress, they suffered a brutal defeat.

Liverpool have nine league games left and right now, the possibility of missing out on next season's Champions League is a genuine concern.

In recent weeks, the Premier League has descended into a full-blown existential crisis. VAR is increasingly bobbins, various teams are ruining everybody’s fun by Arsenaling about at set pieces and Arne Slot has made the grim admission that he finds “no joy” in the current lack of swashbuckling action. Naturally, the usual suspects are clutching their pearls, wailing that everything was better back when pitches were bogs and tackles were felonies. Desperate for a Tuesday night shot in the arm, The Best League In The World™ offered viewers a choice of four matches so turgid they bordered on the offensive. One was a goalless void; another’s solitary highlight involved a Leeds substitute pilfering a strategically placed towel; a third saw an Everton win so routine it made a documentary on the history of beige paint look like Mad Max: Fury Road. Ultimately, the only drama to be found was at Molineux – and even there both sets of players decided to wait 70 minutes before bothering to engage in some actual football.

Andre has scored a last-gasp winner as Wolverhampton Wanderers stunned Liverpool 2-1 and earned back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since April 2025.

The rock-bottom side in the league followed up their win over Aston Villa with all three points at Molineux courtesy of the Brazilian's first goal of the season four minutes into added time.
