Popular Baby Food Sold Nationwide Recalled Because It Could Be Contaminated With “Soft Plastic”

Parents, one of your toddler's staple snack foods could be dangerous. Pumpkin Tree announced a recall of its Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit purée because of defective packaging. Last week, Pumpkin Tree's packaging supplier recalled its pouches because of an internal packaging defect that may result in a strand of soft plastic contaminating the fruit purée.

If the plastic strand were to detach from inside the pouch, it could pose a choking hazard to small children. The recall does not say whether the plastic could detach, though it does caution parents and caregivers that the fruit purée should "not be eaten or fed to another person." No injuries have been reported, Pumpkin Tree says.

Christian Brothers sold real estate worth millions for $1. Now it claims in court it lacks money to pay abuse survivors

Exclusive: Guardian Australia investigation reveals transfer of assets for nominal sums despite Catholic order telling court it is broke and seeking a halt to victims’ civil claims

Adam* pauses briefly, his voice catching slightly down the phone line. He’s contemplating how to describe the unprecedented new legal tactic the Christian Brothers Catholic order is deploying against him and hundreds of other abuse survivors.

“It’s not human,” he says. “It’s just not human.”

The Christian Brothers had an oversized role in the church’s industrial-scale abuse of children. A staggering 22% of its brothers were alleged perpetrators – the second highest rate of any Catholic order.

Christian Brothers says it is running out of money for abuse victims

The Christian Brothers will cease to exist after 183 years in Australia and could be liquidated after paying hundreds of millions of dollars to abuse victims and saying the Catholic Church denied requests for assistance.

The order has proposed a deal that would allow it to distribute its remaining funds – including a property portfolio worth around $216 million – to victims and other creditors, although it would be less than what they are owed.

Catholic religious community faces 'inevitable' end in Australia as it moves to settle abuse claims

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — A Catholic religious community in Melbourne, Australia says it will be forced to close after nearly two centuries as it moves to settle a large number of abuse claims brought against it.

Christian Brothers Oceania Province said its “shameful and painful” history of abuse has led it to sell off its assets in order to settle with victims.

Christian Brothers Oceania Province said on June 22 it was proposing a plan to facilitate the “orderly distribution of our remaining property, funds and other assets” to victims of abuse by congregation members.

The organization said in a press release that “some members” of the congregation had caused “enormous harm through their criminal sexual abuse of children.”

Frozen pizzas sold at Walmart recalled. See the impacted flavors

A recall over a possible salmonella contamination was expanded to include two frozen pizzas sold at one of the nation's popular grocery chains.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) expanded its recall to six different products on Friday, May 1, including two frozen pizzas sold at Walmart. According to the agency, the recall concerns a potential salmonella outbreak in meat and poultry products prepared with a previously recalled dry milk powder.

As of May 3, two pizzas manufactured for Great Value, Walmart's in-house label, were affected — the Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch and Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch. The recall previously included two Mama Cozzi's pizzas sold exclusively at Aldi, including the Biscuits Crust Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Pizza, and Biscuit Crust Cooked Pork Belly Crumbles, Cooked Bacon Topping, Pepper & Onion Breakfast Pizza.
