Source: Cignetti's salary now averages $13.2M through 2033

LB Aiden Fisher tells Pat McAfee why he loves playing for Indiana Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti. (1:14)

After leading Indiana to the national title, coach Curt Cignetti has finalized a contract with the school that will pay him an average of $13.2 million through the 2033 season, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The length of Cignetti's deal does not change, but his salary will increase from $11.6 million annually.

Indiana announced a new deal for Cignetti in October, but it included a "good market faith review" that activated if the Hoosiers reached the College Football Playoff semifinal, which they after a Jan. 1 win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl. The review required the sides to meet within 120 days after the CFP semifinal and adjust Cignetti's salary to rank no less than third among active head coaches, according to the term sheet.

Curt Cignetti gets pay raise to $13.2 million after national title, per report

Curt Cignetti continues to have a fantastic start to 2026. After his Indiana Hoosiers won the national championship in January — the first in program history — a market review clause in his contract extension signed earlier in the season was triggered, giving the school 120 days to give him a raise to make him one of the three highest paid coaches in the sport. If Indiana didn't meet that requirement, Cignetti's buyout to leave the program would be negated.

Unsurprisingly, Indiana made sure to do what was necessary to keep Cignetti and a new deal was agreed to on Friday, per ESPN, with Cignetti getting a raise to $13.2 million on a contract running through 2033. That is an increase of $1.6 million per year from the extension signed in October and moves Cignetti from fourth in the country at $11.6 million to being tied with Georgia coach Kirby Smart as the highest paid coach in college football.
