The LA Clippers have traded 11-time All-Star guard James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for guard Darius Garland and a second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

Harden effectively had veto power over any trade because of the nature of his contract. He worked through his exit with the Clippers (23-26) over the past few days, resulting in an outcome both sides were happy with. It's a win-now championship opportunity for Harden, who is playing at a high level at age 36, and the Clippers get a two-time All-Star in Garland who, at age 26, can help now and in the future.

NBA: James Harden to join Cleveland Cavaliers as part of Darius Garland trade with LA Clippers

James Harden averages 25.4 points per game for the Los Angeles Clippers this season

James Harden is set to join the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Clippers, with Darius Garland moving in the opposite direction after the sides agreed a trade.

Harden, 36, is an 11-time NBA All-Star and regarded as one of the greatest guards in history, but he has never won an NBA title.

Although the deal is yet to be confirmed by the NBA, Harden said the opportunity to win a first championship was key in deciding to move.

The Cavaliers are fifth in the Eastern Conference in their pursuit of a play-off spot, while the Clippers are ninth in the West.

The Golden State Warriors are trading forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for center Kristaps Porzingis, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday.

In addition, the Warriors traded center Trayce Jackson-Davis to the Toronto Raptors for a 2026 second-round pick via the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said.

Kuminga's time with the Warriors ends after 4½ tumultuous seasons that saw the 23-year-old wing repeatedly fall out of Steve Kerr's rotation. Drafted with the No. 7 pick in 2021, Kuminga flashed his potential as an athletic wing several times throughout his career but never ended up meshing with the rest of the roster on the court, particularly after the trade to acquire Jimmy Butler last season.

Golden State reportedly trades Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield to Hawks for Kristaps Porziņģis

The Golden State Warriors are finally moving on from Jonathan Kuminga.

The Warriors struck a deal to trade Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, according to Yahoo Sports' Kelly Iko. Buddy Hield is also on the move to Atlanta, too. In return, the Warriors will receive Kristaps Porziņģis.

This ends a saga that has been months in the making, and finally gives Kuminga and the Warriors the fresh start that both sides clearly need.

The deal also almost certainly means that the Warriors won't be able to make a deal for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo before the deadline as Kuminga would have been central to any trade offer for him, according to longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein.

With three days to go before the NBA trade deadline, the market for Giannis Antetokounmpo has started to progress as the Milwaukee Bucks have submitted counteroffers to teams aggressively seeking a deal for the two-time MVP, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

Having been resistant to the idea of trading Antetokounmpo throughout his career in Milwaukee, the Bucks have now shifted to actively engaging with a few teams concerning a potential league-altering trade.

NBA Trade Deadline Intel: Timberwolves’ Pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, What to Watch

Some news, notes and observations from a surprisingly busy Tuesday of trade deadline week …

As the hours tick toward the NBA trade deadline, Minnesota’s aggressive pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo has drawn attention. The Timberwolves are on Antetokounmpo’s so-called list, sources tell Sports Illustrated, with the Wolves operating under the belief that Antetokounmpo would not only welcome a deal to Minnesota—where he would be paired with 24-year-old Anthony Edwards—but be ready to sign a long-term extension.

Acquiring Antetokounmpo, though, is challenging. The Bucks want Jaden McDaniels, a source tells SI, with Milwaukee seeing McDaniels, 25, as a potential future All-Star. But the Bucks also want multiple first-round draft picks, sources say, and Minnesota’s war chest of them is nearly empty.

Warriors' Plan B for NBA trade deadline looms over Giannis Antetokounmpo pursuit

NBA Trade Deadline Week this year started with the surprise that James Harden again wants to be on a different team and turned to shock on Tuesday morning when the 19-win Memphis Grizzlies and 15-win Utah Jazz got together for a blockbuster trade.

The Grizzlies' rebuild is underway, but Ja Morant isn’t the first domino to fall. Jaren Jackson Jr. is being traded from the Grizzlies to the Jazz in a deal that involves eight players and three first-round picks being sent to Utah, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, citing sources.

Stunning is an appropriate word for the move. Jackson, a big fish, is off the board and he’s joining a team nobody envisioned. The biggest fish remains on the market with the unknown if he’s staying in the water until the summer or about to jump ship.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading De'Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis, sources told ESPN.

The three-team deal includes the Chicago Bulls acquiring Kings forward Dario Saric and two future second-round picks, sources said.

The Cavaliers turn Hunter's salary slot into depth at point guard with Schroder and a top defender on the market with Ellis. The Cavaliers also save about $50 million in salary and luxury tax bills this season because of the transaction and drop their tax bill from $164 million to $120 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired guards Keon Ellis and Dennis Schröder from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for De'Andre Hunter, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.

Hunter, 28, was dealt to the Cavaliers before last season's NBA trade deadline from the Atlanta Hawks for a package that included Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two swaps. However, he fell out of head coach Kenny Atkinson's rotation in recent weeks.

Cavs and Lakers discussing De’Andre Hunter trade framework with third team involvement

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs appear to be moving closer to a significant trade, with De’Andre Hunter potentially headed to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal that would address both basketball fit and financial flexibility for the wine and gold.

On the latest Wine and Gold Talk podcast, cleveland.com beat reporter Chris Fedor dropped a bombshell regarding discussions between the two teams: “My sources tell me that the Cavs and the Lakers have discussed a general framework surrounding De’Andre Hunter for Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht and then bringing in a third team.”

This potential trade represents much more than a simple player swap. For Cleveland, it addresses multiple needs simultaneously – most importantly, providing crucial financial breathing room for a team currently squeezed by the NBA’s punitive second apron tax penalties.

Sources: Kyle Tucker, Dodgers agree to 4-year, $240M deal

LOS ANGELES — In the wake of another championship, which made them the first Major League Baseball team in a quarter century to repeat, the Los Angeles Dodgers mostly downplayed their ability to dominate another offseason. They believed their roster was already good enough, and they vowed to let the market come to them rather than chase stars aggressively.

Kyle Tucker, the consensus best player available in free agency, agreed to join the Dodgers on Thursday, sources told ESPN, a little more than a month after star closer Edwin Diaz did the same. Tucker's deal is for four years at $240 million and includes opt-outs after the second and third seasons, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan and Jesse Rogers.

Exclusive: Mets put a $50 million-per-year offer on the table for Kyle Tucker

The New York Mets are pursuing superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker — and have made a short-term offer worth $50 million per season, sources say. John Mincone first reported the Mets’ offer. The structure of the deal (not just the number) signals how aggressively the Mets are willing to reshape the market.

Tucker, 29 on Saturday, is the consensus top free agent this winter and has drawn interest from numerous teams, with reports linking him to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, among others. Tucker was spotted visiting the Blue Jays’ spring training facility in Dunedin, Fla. in early December, as FanSided first reported.

Kyle Tucker signing cements it: Dodgers are MLB's real Evil Empire

The powerful, formidable Dodgers, who have now become Exhibit 1-A in MLB’s argument that baseball needs a salary cap.

If it wasn’t enough that they have won two consecutive World Series championships.

If it wasn’t enough that they already landed the best closer in baseball in Edwin Diaz.

They now signed the best darn player in the entire free agent class, paying him a mind-blowing salary.

They signed four-time All-Star right fielder Kyle Tucker to a stunning four-year, $240 million deal, with opt-outs after the second and third years.

The only person who is earning more in baseball history is Shohei Ohtani at $70 million, and $68 million of his salary is deferred.

Sources: Clippers' Zubac has Grade 2 ankle sprain

LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac will sit out several weeks because of a Grade 2 left ankle sprain, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Sunday.

Zubac exited in the first half of Saturday's 103-88 win over the Los Angeles Lakers and did not return. He fell to the court in a heap late in the first quarter and immediately hobbled to the locker room for evaluation and Brook Lopez substituted in for him. Zubac finished with five points and two rebounds in 11 minutes.

Before the game, Lakers center Jaxson Hayes said Zubac — who was averaging 16 points and 11.5 rebounds headed into the win — would be a challenge.

The Los Angeles Clippers have had a rough season so far. Having a record of 8-21, things seemingly went from bad to worse with the unfortunate injury of Ivica Zubac. Zubac sustained a Grade 2 left ankle sprain during the Clippers’ 103-88 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. What’s even worse is that he’s expected to be out for at least three weeks.

With a depleted frontcourt, head coach Tyronn Lue decided to grant the starting center position to veteran player Brook Lopez against the Houston Rockets last night. Despite going up against star player Alperen Sengun, Lopez was able to help his team in other areas and provided a similar stoic presence that Zubac had before he got hurt. Not only that, he’s able to spread the floor due to his ability to shoot the ball, especially from deep.

Sources: HR record-setter Murakami picks ChiSox

Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami and the Chicago White Sox are in agreement on a two-year, $34 million contract, sources told ESPN on Sunday, landing the home run record-setter in Nippon Professional Baseball with a rebuilding team making its first free agent splash in years.

Murakami, 25, was arguably the most fascinating player to hit free agency this winter. A 6-foot-2, 230-pound left-handed slugger with elite exit velocity, he was the youngest player on the market and heads to Major League Baseball with 246 home runs in his eight seasons for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.

He has been a star in Japan since he hit 36 home runs as a 19-year-old in 2019. He followed that up with 56 home runs in 2022, breaking the record for a Japan-born player set in 1964 by Sadaharu Oh. Murakami, a two-time Central League MVP, missed time last season with an oblique injury but hit 22 home runs in 56 games with a .273/.379/.663 slash line.

White Sox sign Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami to $34 million contract

The White Sox have landed an intriguing free agent with the potential to add some serious power to their lineup.

Japanese infielder Munetaka Murakami agreed to a two-year, $34 million contract with the White Sox on Sunday, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

The 25-year-old slugger, who is coming over from the Yakult Swallows, hit 56 home runs during the 2022 season and has four other 30-homer campaigns.

His strikeout rate that eclipsed 28 percent over the last three years made teams wary, but it’s a fairly low-risk move for a White Sox team looking to turn things around.

The corner infielder is expected to play first base in Chicago, according to ESPN.
