History made in astonishing 100m sprint race

Reigning world champion Oblique Seville came up trumps as all nine athletes cracked the 10-second barrier in an astonishing men’s 100-metre final at the Silesia Diamond League meet on Monday (AEST).

Never before in athletics history had nine athletes broken the 10-second mark in wind-legal conditions in a single race.

So deep was the competition in Poland that Australia’s fastest man, 9.85-second flyer Lachlan Kennedy, didn’t advance out of the heats.

At a Diamond League meet that diverted from the norm by staging heats in the men’s 100m rather than a straight final, Kennedy finished sixth in his heat in 10.08 seconds (+1.9).

    Silesia 2026: Live updates

The world’s best athletes will have one of their last opportunities to win Wanda Diamond League points on Sunday when they line up at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia.

With the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels now just two weeks away, Silesia will be the decisive last chance for many stars hoping to qualify.

Among those out to book their ticket to Belgium this weekend are world 100m champions Oblique Seville and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and world record holders Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Ja’Kobe Tharp.

The action begins at 15:02 local time (GMT/UTC+2) with the women’s high jump and the main programme and two-hour broadcast starts at 16:00 local time with the men’s 400m hurdles.

Commonwealth Games: Rohan Browning and Eddie Nketia through to Men’s 100m semifinals

Eddie Nketia has made an emphatic debut in green and gold, producing the fastest 100m sprint heat by an Australian at a Commonwealth Games as he and Rohan Browning advanced to the semifinals.

The pair made their first appearance of the Games on Monday with plenty of hope on their shoulders.

And both lived up to the promise, joining Lachie Kennedy, who was a seeded qualifier so avoided the heats, in the semifinals, which will be run on Wednesday morning (AWST).

Browning shook off a cold to even reach the start line at Scotstoun Stadium, but it didn’t affect him out of the blocks.

Round 1 Post Sprint Race Press Conference

VAR Melbourne Sprint 1-2 ‘bodes well for the future’ says Szafnaeur

FIA Formula 3: Hello and welcome back to Melbourne, where it's time for our FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race press conference with the top three finishers. In third place, we have Brando Badoer for Rodin Motorsport, in second Enzo Deligny for Van Amersfoort Racing and in first place Bruno Del Pino also for VAR. Bruno, this is a nice way to start the season, even if we had fewer laps than planned. Talk us through your race, as you looked to have it all under control.

Bruno Del Pino: Yeah, so the start was pretty clean, no issues there. I managed to create a gap quite quickly compared to the guys in the back and then from there it was quite an easy race towards the safety car, just trying to put on the pace, trying to save tyres as well and then I saw that there was no DRS available. Even so I tried to create the gap to get far away from the DRS even though there was none, so it was also a bit easier for me than the rest of the drivers. But I think before the safety car, it was all under control. I felt that I could have continued like that. It was a pity that the racing ended early, of course, the health of the other drivers is more important, but it's a nice way to start the season, even though it's half the points. But looking for the momentum towards tomorrow.
