Al Horford News: Not starting Wednesday

Horford won't start Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game against the Clippers, Anthony Slater of ESPN.com reports.

The veteran big man got the starting nod with Draymond Green (back) sidelined in Sunday's regular-season finale — a loss to the Clippers — though Horford will retreat to the second unit in Wednesday's do-or-die matchup. The 39-year-old averaged 7.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 blocks in 20.6 minutes per game across 32 regular-season appearances off the bench.

Fans can’t believe Al Horford’s unreal 3-point barrage in Warriors-Clippers

Golden State Warriors center Al Horford turned back the clock and delivered a memorable performance against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors completed a come-from-behind victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, 126-121, in the Play-In Tournament at Intuit Dome on Wednesday to keep their flat-lining season alive.

The Warriors clawed back from a 13-point deficit in the second half to steal the win and set up a do-or-die date with the Phoenix Suns for the last ticket to the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Al Horford came up big for Golden State, scoring 14 points, including four three-pointers in the fourth quarter, in 22 minutes off the bench.

OKC Thunder Announce Unique Starting Five, Hartenstein Goes to Bench

The Oklahoma City Thunder have a grueling stretch coming up. The team is forced to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight which tips off a stretch of battling the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks. There are few roll over options on that list, perhaps just one, with the Bucks. All while being short handed.

Oklahoma City is without All-NBA swingman Jalen Williams, defensive-ace Alex Caruso and top bench bucket getter Ajay Mitchell as the Thunder do get starting big man Isaiah Hartenstein and defensive ace Cason Wallace back into the fold for Mark Daigneault's club.

Asked Mark Daigneault about the impact of getting …

Justin Martinez: Asked Mark Daigneault about the impact of getting Isaiah Hartenstein back tonight: "It's the point-of-attack defense. It's the pick-and-roll defense. It's what he does for our rebounding. He's an elite offensive rebounder, an elite screener, a great pocket passer and an above-the-rim finisher on the rolls. He obviously brings a lot of stuff to the table for us and kind of expands our optionality as a team, so we welcome him back. We're certainly thrilled to have him back."

Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) out again Friday

Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) will be out again for Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers. (NBA Injury Report)

As expected, Hartenstein will continue to miss time for the foreseeable future thanks to a nagging calf injury of some kind. Look for Jaylin Williams (glute) and Kenrich Williams to continue to be two of the primary beneficiaries of his absence for as long as he remains sidelined.

Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst reports on growing unrest in Iran as anti-government protests enter their third week on ‘Fox Report.’

President Donald Trump said Sunday that Iran is "starting to" cross U.S. red lines, citing reports of civilian deaths and warning that any attack on American interests would be met with overwhelming force as his administration weighs what he called "very strong options."

Trump is pledging to ‘rescue’ protesters in Iran. He has a selective view of the sanctity of protests.

President Donald Trump billed strikes on Venezuela earlier this month as being about drugs, gangs invading the United States and law enforcement – i.e. arresting indicted leader Nicolás Maduro. But of late, he seems conspicuously preoccupied with the country’s oil wealth.

And the American people seem to have noticed. A CBS News poll last week showed many Americans thought the administration’s goals in Venezuela were about oil (59% saying the goals were “a lot” about access to oil) or about expanding US power (51%) – more so than drugs (38%), an invasion of gangs and terrorists (37%) or enforcing the law (31%).

That’s pretty stunning. It took years for the idea to take hold that George W. Bush’s administration invaded Iraq under false pretenses (about weapons of mass destruction); Americans are already largely there when it comes to Venezuela.

The Cubs traded for a starting pitcher. Okay, Jed Hoyer: Now sign a top hitter

Let’s go, Tom and Jed. Give Cubs fans what they deserve.

One thing I think everyone here agrees on — and we don’t all agree on much! — is that the Cubs ought to sign one of the top free-agent hitters this offseason.

In my view, now that the team has traded for a cost-controlled starting pitcher — and potentially a very good one in Edward Cabrera — it’s time to spend the big bucks on one of the top free-agent hitters. The Cubs need a bat to replace Kyle Tucker, who departed as a free agent.

There are four such players, and any one of them would be a big help to the 2026 Cubs offense. Let’s take a look at each, in alphabetical order.

Here's the latest in Cubs' search for 2 key ingredients

CHICAGO – During the Winter Meetings last month, Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer expressed that there was a “real focus” and “energy” to the team’s pursuits on multiple fronts. He was also quick to add a cautionary qualifying statement.

“I think it’ll lead to activity – I can’t tell you when,” Hoyer said. “We could have an active December. We could have an active January. I don’t know. We’re not going to do bad deals just to do something quick.”

Nearly a month later, with 2026 upon us and Cubs Convention (Jan. 16-18) approaching, Hoyer and his front-office team have yet to make a big-ticket splash this offseason. There has been nearly $30 million spent between the bullpen and bench, plus Shota Imanaga’s decision to stay for $22.025 million via the qualifying offer, but two primary goals remain unsolved: adding an impact bat and/or a starting pitcher.

MLB insider gives Tom Ricketts no cover in blunt comments about Cubs' offseason

It's not just fans who are waiting for the Chicago Cubs to make a big splash this winter. With numerous high-profile free-agents still available, including the likes of Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, Framber Valdez and Ranger Suarez, there's still time to change the narrative.

Unfortunately, there are no indications to suggest the front office or ownership is poised to do an about-face when it comes to how they approach the offseason and roster-building,

In the latest episode of the Baseball Insiders podcast, FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray singled out the Cubs, more or less saying it was inexcusable to lose Tucker, one of the best players in the game when healthy, and respond only by rebuilding a bullpen (moves, which, frankly had to be made given they lost almost every impact reliever from last year).

Real Madrid player ratings vs Real Betis: No Kylian Mbappe, no problem! Hat-trick hero Gonzalo Garcia shows what he can do as Blancos kick-off 2026 in style

Gonzalo Garcia scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid turned in their most comprehensive showing in months to beat a sluggish Real Betis 5-1 on Sunday. Los Blancos showed no hesitation with Kylian Mbappe out, putting on an attacking clinic in the absence of their star man as they returned to action after La Liga's winter break.

Xabi Alonso's side rather struggled for chances early on, but were good value for their opener when it came via a bit of set-piece magic, as stand-in striker Garcia nodded home from Rodrygo's teasing free-kick. They had other chances, too, with Vinicius Jr looking dangerous in far more room to operate thanks to Mbappe's absence. But Betis had their moments, and forced a couple of saves from Thibaut Courtois as the first half waned.
