    Watch for Easter weekend storms

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A busy holiday weekend is upon us and the weather may impact your holiday plans at times.

Good Friday’s rain chances are on the lower side so we should experience a quiet start to the holiday weekend. It’ll be warm and humid with highs soaring well into the 80s.

⛈️ EASTER WEEKEND STORMS – Saturday into Easter Sunday is when we bring in the highest storm threat. Now there should be a quiet period early Saturday for the Crescent City Classic but as the day goes on and daytime heating kicks in, storm chances will be on the rise. By the evening hours on Saturday expect heavy storms to form, especially on the North Shore.

Rain and storms forecast for QLD after record-breaking outback drenching

Heavy rain will continue to drench parts of eastern Australia this weekend, with a risk of flooding around a number of rivers.

The weather system responsible has arrived from the outback where this month has already brought the highest rain totals in up to 15 years.

This rare desert drenching is the result of an intrusion of very humid tropical air — an airmass which is now over Queensland where it will stall for several days.

It has been an incredible week of rain and storms across central Australia.

Flash flooding and swollen rivers could be in store for south-east Queensland, as the Bureau of Meteorology warns of more rain.

After a steamy week with maximum temperatures in the mid-30s, storms brought a cool change overnight, dumping up to 76 millimetres of rain in parts of the Scenic Rim and dropping Friday’s forecast high to just 25 degrees in Brisbane.

Widespread falls across the south-east ranged between 20 millimetres and 60 millimetres from Thursday afternoon to Friday, with storms from central parts of Queensland moving to the coast.

Even more rain was recorded on either side of south-east Queensland, with parts of northern NSW receiving nearly 180 millimetres from 9am on Thursday to 5am on Friday, and Mount Playfair in central Queensland copping 100 millimetres.

Victoria Mboko’s Australian Open debut is proceeding exactly as planned.

The Canadian 17th seed accounted for American Caty McNally on Wednesday with a 6-4 6-3 win at 1573 Arena to earn a third-round berth at AO 2026.

“I really had to fight hard today,” said the 19-year-old after closing out the match by winning six straight games from a 0-3 second-set deficit.

Victoria Mboko has a simple plan for quietening the vocal home crowd support expected for her Australian Open round one rival Emerson Jones – start winning.

The Canadian teen is the talk of the town after a stunning surge up the rankings, starting last year outside the top 300 and soaring to world No.16.

The rise seemed to have even surprised Mboko, who set herself a goal 12 months ago of being able to play in qualifying for the majors.
