Strikers recruit answers the call in stunning BBL debut

A mid-season pick up has Adelaide fans in a spin after three-wicket haul in Perth.

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has all the makings of the BBL's latest cult hero, and don't be surprised if thousands of fans end up taking off their shoes to answer his call.

Shamsi made a stunning BBL debut for the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday night, snaring 3-30 at Optus Stadium in his team's 33-run loss.

The 35-year-old wasn't meant to link up with the Strikers until January 7, but they rushed him in early with the hope Perth would struggle against his spin.

Shamsi dismissed Mitch Marsh and Cooper Connolly in his first over, before returning to send Ashton Turner packing – three of the Scorchers' most dangerous players.

Big Bash League: South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi next cult hero as he explains shoe celebration

The Big Bash may have found its next cult hero in 35-year-old South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi after his entertaining debut for Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.

The left-arm leggie was brought to Australia a game early as the Strikers attempted to knock off five-time champions Perth Scorchers with an all-out spin attack at Optus Stadium.

And while the men in blue fell short of victory, Shamsi’s Big Bash debut was a win for the club.

He claimed 3-30 from his four overs, including the vital scalps of Australian T20 captain Mitch Marsh, rising star Cooper Connolly and Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner.

Strikers name squad for Perth clash as Shamsi joins BBL|15 campaign

The Adelaide Strikers have confirmed a 13-man squad for their January 4 showdown with the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium, featuring a major new addition.

South African wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has signed with the Strikers for the remainder of BBL|15 and will travel to Perth with the squad.

He joins as an overseas replacement player, with Luke Wood and Jamie Overton unavailable for finals after being named in England’s T20 World Cup squad.

    The 35-year-old left-armer brings a wealth of experience from 70 T20Is and 55 ODIs, including career-best figures of 5/24, and is South Africa’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

Strikers turn to Proteas spinner as England duo earn call-up

A double call-up to England’s World T20 Cup squad has thrown an unexpected spanner in the Adelaide Strikers’ potential finals plans

England allrounders Jamie Overton and Luke Wood will be unavailable for a possible Adelaide Strikers BBL|15 finals campaign after being named in England's T20 World Cup squad.

The pair were selected in the 16-man squad just prior to the new year, and have also been picked for England's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka which commences on January 22.

With preparations for both the upcoming Sri Lankan tour and T20 World Cup overlapping with the KFC BBL|15 finals campaign, which runs from January 20-25, it means the Strikers would be without two of their most seasoned white-ball veterans in the hunt for a prospective second BBL title.

High Court directs CSA to let Shamsi complete ILT20 season

The Gauteng High Court has ruled against Cricket South Africa (CSA) and in favour of Tabraiz Shamsi in a landmark judgment which will be pored over with interest around the global game for its potential implications for freelance cricketers.

Shamsi, the left-arm wristspinner who has played 127 international matches across formats, withdrew from his contract with MI Cape Town in the SA20 earlier this year in order to take up offers in other T20 leagues overseas, specifically the ILT20 in the UAE, and the Big Bash League in Australia.

HEAT ADD QUICK TO SQUAD | Host Strikers Tomorrow

The Brisbane Heat have maintained their squad for tomorrow night’s KFC Big Bash League clash with the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba.

The Heat have added left-arm paceman Oli Patterson to their squad of 14, after he missed Brisbane's loss to the Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval in Canberra earlier this week.

The Heat’s last Gabba match was the memorable record-breaking victory over the Perth Scorchers last week when the home side successfully completed a record run-chase.

Tomorrow night’s game features the return of former Brisbane Heat frontman Chris Lynn, now with the Strikers.

Paceman Xavier Bartlett will again captain the side after taking over from the injured Nathan McSweeney (ankle) against the Thunder.

Strikers make one change to squad traveling to Brisbane

The Adelaide Strikers have named their 13-man squad to face the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on December 27.

Harry Manenti retains his place in the squad alongside fellow local replacement player Jerrssis Wadia, who made his debut last match.

After an impressive victory in the season opener vs the Sixers, the Strikers fell short against the Stars in their second game.

Skipper Matt Short made his first fifty of the competition, while Hassan Ali claimed two scalps, but the Stars sealed a six-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.

Alex Ross drops out of the travelling party as the sole change.
