Sunday footy: Dragons v Titans; Sea Eagles v Sharks

They may be sitting in 16th and 17th but make no mistake, there's plenty to play for at the Dragons' spiritual home on Sunday afternoon.

With wins over the Broncos, Panthers and Sea Eagles since Round 14, the Titans continue to build nicely under Josh Hannay and give their fans plenty of hope for 2027.

The Dragons have done it tough this season and look destined to collect the first wooden spoon in joint venture history but their young forwards have been shining lights and will flourish next year with the likes of Luke Metcalf, Scott Drinkwater and Keaon Koloamatangi coming on board.

Pentecost Sunday: Pentecost pushes us outward

Editor's note: Welcome to Theologians' Corner, where each week a different woman theologian from around the world offers a fresh reflection on the Sunday readings.

Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, the day the church was born in power. Fifty days after the Resurrection, the disciples who had been fearful and uncertain were transformed into bold witnesses. The doors that had been locked were thrown open. The silence of fear was replaced with the fire of proclamation.

Pentecost is not simply a past event. It is the living reality of the church today. In the first reading from Acts 2:1-11, we hear of wind and fire. The Spirit descends as tongues of flame resting upon each of the disciples. Fire in Scripture purifies, illuminates and enkindles passion. In this reading, we hear about frightened disciples gathered behind closed doors. They are uncertain, hesitant, even afraid.

Sunday Reflection with Canon Robin Gibbons: May 24th 2026

The Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles – Wiki image

How can one relate to the unseen Spirit? The paucity of our various languages reveals the difficulty of expressing just who the Spirit is to us, and the wisdom of Christianity in its best sense, uses descriptive metaphors and symbols just as Jesus' teaching in the gospel does. The manner in which we use our various languages to describe the Spirit does not capture or determine the essence and nature of this gift giver. They help us express the immensity, and the 'beyond spatial-boundaries' of the Spirits work and action amongst us. This also applies to the descriptive ways in which we use personal pronouns, different languages use them in different ways to describe the Holy Spirit, but we can determine that this is not to attach any gender to the Spirit itself. We are talking about the mystery of the Triune God, who exits beyond time and place and each person cannot be defined by human categories-except in the person and nature of Jesus the Christ, the Word who was made flesh for our sakes, but is now risen and glorified as we shall be! I write this not to start any great discussion concerning the nature of the Holy One, that has been done often, but rather, like those traditions of the Eastern Christian Community, want to help each of us open up to the gracious gift of the dynamic of love reaching out to us.

Lord’s Day Reflection: Proof that God enjoys a challenge

On the first evening of the week, the disciples were gathered behind locked doors, afraid and uncertain about what their future held.

They had seen the suffering and death of Jesus. They knew their own failures too well – Peter’s denial, the others’ abandonment, Thomas’ doubts. They were not triumphant heroes.  They were frightened, wounded, and deeply aware of their unworthiness.

Yet it is precisely into that room, into that fear, that the risen Christ entered and breathed upon them, saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (Jn 20:22)

Pentecost reminds us that the gift of the Holy Spirit is not a reward for the perfect.  It is God’s promise to fragile people that their failures will not have the final word. The disciples were given something they could never have earned on their own: a future.

Sunday session: Eels v Titans; Wests Tigers v Knights

We bring down the curtain on another intriguing round of footy with the injury-hit Eels trying to bounce back from their Easter Monday heartbreak before the Knights and Wests Tigers square off in a battle of two red-hot sides on the rise.

Few could have predicted at the start of the season that the teams that finished last year 13th and 17th would be sitting pretty in the top four after five rounds and dreaming big.

A sensational atmosphere is guaranteed at Campbelltown as Wests Tigers chase another win in front of their loyal fans who are loving the ride in 2026 as Benji's boys crank up the attack but also show some real steel in defence.

Late Mail: NRL Round 6 v Newcastle Knights

The Wests Tigers have confirmed their final squad ahead of their clash with the Newcastle Knights at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Coming off the back of an Easter Monday classic, the boys in orange, black and white will look to secure their fourth win in their opening five games, on Sunday, 12 April, 4:05pm at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Due to hamstring tightness, Tino Tavana has been omitted from the squad. This has caused a shuffle in the back line, with Patrick Herbert making his Wests Tigers debut at centre.

Tony Sukkar has moved from the reserves to the interchange bench.

Tigers and Knights have seven wooden spoons from the past 11 years. Today, one of them will be equal top

Hands up who thought the Wests Tigers or Newcastle Knights would be sitting in equal first place on the NRL ladder at the end of six rounds.

That is the remarkable scenario that awaits the winner of Sunday’s clash at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The Tigers and Knights are far more used to scrapping for the wooden spoon, having collected seven between them in the past 11 years. Their clash in round one last year at the same south-western Sydney venue was so bad that the only winner was the AFL.

What is Palm Sunday? What to know about Holy Week 2026

The Easter season will come to a close in a little over a week, on Easter Sunday. But the days leading up to Easter Sunday are equally important to many Christians and Catholics. Holy Week begins this Sunday, March 29, with Palm Sunday.

Each day of Holy Week commemorates different events in the week leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible.

Here's the calendar for Holy Week 2026, what Palm Sunday is and what to know about other Holy Week days.

Easter Sunday will fall on April 5 in 2026. In 2025, Easter fell much later in the month, on April 20. Eastern Orthodox Easter will fall on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion: The face of betrayal

Editor's note: Welcome to Theologians' Corner, where each week a different woman theologian from around the world offers a fresh reflection on the Sunday readings.

Palm Sunday ushers us into Holy Week. It sets the tone for the Easter triduum later in the week. The liturgy opens with movement, a procession, outside the church, the waving of blessed palms or any other greenery, and the jubilant chanting of "Hosanna." It feels festive, almost triumphant. Yet our attention is quickly drawn to the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year we read from Matthew's version. On Good Friday, however, we read it again but from John, as done every year.

UFC On Paramount Plus: 2026 Event Schedule And How To Watch Fights Explained

MMA fans rejoice! It's 2026, which means the UFC has finally moved away from the pay-per-view model. Audiences in the United States can now watch UFC numbered events (which used to be PPVs) and Fight Nights on Paramount+.

A Paramount+ Essential subscription (with ads) is $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year. Paramount+ Premium (ad-free) is $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year. Both tiers have access to UFC content. There are no additional costs or side packages required to watch UFC content on Paramount+. However, it's important to note that live sports on the streamer feature commercials, regardless of subscription plan.

UFC's first event on Paramount+ is also its first of the new year. Unfortunately, it's had something of a rocky start. Amanda Nunes, arguably the greatest female fighter of all time, was set to make her return on the card against Bantamweight Champion Kayla Harrison. This would have been Nunes' first bout after retiring in 2023. However, a severe neck injury forced Harrison out. Luckily, fans still have an absolute banger main event waiting for them: Justin Gaethje is fighting Paddy Pimblett for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 324 on January 24.

Paramount Will Use UFC to Kick Off Programmatic Live Ad Sales in Sports Events

UFC fighters have many moves, but none of them will keep marketers from buying programmatic inventory in their coming events backed by Paramount Skydance,.

The company said Wednesday it would offer live, in-game programmatic buying for select commercial units in what it called “marquee sporting events,” starting January 24 with the debut of UFC matches on Paramount+. The decision marks the first time advertisers can purchase a guaranteed, real-time placement in Paramount’s streamed sports.

“This initiative underscores Paramount’s commitment to media modernization, expanding opportunities for marketers to show up during the biggest and buzziest moments of scaled audience attention,” said Jay Askinasi, Paramount’s recently-installed chief revenue officer, in a statement. “By bringing guaranteed positions to the streaming sports stage, both directly and programmatically, we’re widening the aperture for more advertisers to tap into the passion, energy and engagement of live sports with the agility, optimization and precision of digital.

Jasmine Paolini plans on enjoying the Melbourne sunshine after wasting no time in becoming the first women's big gun through to the Australian Open second round.

The seventh-seeded Italian needed just 69 minutes to see off Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-1 6-2 in the opening match of the tournament on Rod Laver Arena.

A two-time grand slam finalist in 2024, Paolini won all eight of her service games and broke her Belarusian opponent four times.

By the numbers: Paolini, Sakkari lead early Day 1 Australian Open winners

Jasmine Paolini and Maria Sakkari each cruised to victory on Day 1 of the Australian Open, both advancing to the second round in straight sets. Paolini dominated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-1, 6-2, while Sakkari overcame a first-set deficit to defeat Leolia Jeanjean.

Two fan favorites were easy winners on Day 1 of the Australian Open, as No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini and former Top 10 player Maria Sakkari each punched their ticket through to the second round in straight sets with the loss of nine combined games.

Paolini never trailed in a 6-1, 6-2 win over qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich, while Sakkari rallied from a 4-1 first-set deficit to see off France's Leolia Jeanjean. After both players began their 2026 seasons by representing their respective countries at the United Cup, each will be hoping to better an all-time career-best result of a fourth round in Melbourne this year.

"Oh s**t, that actually happened" – Steven Adams admits he never expected to be drafted

Steven Adams has built quite a solid 12-year NBA career to date. It is something he initially thought would not happen, but he is proud that he was able to put everything together.

The big man from New Zealand was selected 12th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder after playing one season at the University of Pittsburgh. With the Panthers, he started in all 32 games he played, compiling averages of 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and two blocks while shooting 57.1% from the field, earning a spot on the Big East All-Rookie Team.

Speaking on "The Old Man and The Three" podcast along with Rockets teammate Reed Sheppard, 32-year-old Adams looked back at the night he was drafted in the NBA and shared what went through his mind.
