Supercars news: Camping crackdown for Bathurst 1000
Campers in the Reid and Sulman Park and McPhillamy Park campsites have been informed of a number of changes that will be trialled at Bathurst this year.
The headline change is a crackdown on gazebos, which punters erect along the elevated viewing areas adjacent to iconic parts of the Mount Panorama circuit.
For this year each campsite will be restricted to one 3m x 3m gazebo which will need to be registered to the individual site.
Gazebos occupying prime real estate that aren’t being used for extended periods of time will also be subject to review from camp area staff.
Ford Supercars engine fortification to come post-Bathurst
AN update aimed at strengthening the Ford Supercars engine almost certainly won’t be delivered prior to the Repco Bathurst 1000.
That’s the word from Jamie Whincup, whose Triple Eight organisation this year took over as the party responsible for the 5.4-litre Coyote V8.
Engine reliability for the Blue Oval emerged as a sudden concern at last month’s Ipswich Super440, where Matt Payne suffered a notable failure that cost him the Repco Sprint Cup. Rylan Gray also encountered an issue the day before, as did the #88 Red Bull Ampol Mustang at the post-event test.
Several Ford runners encountered engine overheating during the AirTouch 500 at The Bend, but that was suspected to be more to do with blocked radiators due to off-track excursions through mud.

QR victims’ renewed confidence in Ford engine reliability
GROVE Racing has expressed renewed confidence in the reliability of Ford’s Coyote V8 heading into the first race since an engine failure robbed Matt Payne of the Repco Sprint Cup.
Payne seemed a sure bet to clinch the silverware at Queensland Raceway before heartache struck and Broc Feeney swooped.
Ford homologation team and engine supplier Triple Eight vowed to leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter, and the top team in pitlane seems satisfied heading into this afternoon’s 500km enduro.
“We had overstressed the engine… our over-revs on that car were higher than what we would have liked, which then induced a timing chain failure, which is a known weakness with the engine,” Brenton Grove told V8 Sleuth.
