SYDNEY key forward Hayden McLean is set to push his case for a finals berth after being given the nod by coach Dean Cox.

McLean will play just his fifth senior game this year, lining up at the SCG against the Western Bulldogs on Friday night as injured teammate Joel Amartey's replacement.

Amartey is expected to miss at least 10 weeks after suffering a partial tear to an Achilles tendon in the Swans' 43-point loss to the Brisbane Lions last round.

TEAM: Six changes for Friday night footy

Dane Rampe headlines the Swans inclusions for Friday night against the Western Bulldogs at the SCG.

The Sydney Swans have made six changes to their side to face the Western Bulldogs in a blockbuster Friday night fixture at the SCG.

Headlining the inclusions is former skipper, Dane Rampe who returns to the side after a calf injury has kept him sidelined the past month. Hayden McLean, Corey Warner, Matt Roberts, Tom Hanily and Harry Kyle have also been in inlcuded for the Round 17 clash.

They come in for a handful of injured Swans: Joel Amartey (achilies), Logan McDonald (quad tightness), Peter Ladhams (groin), Sam Wicks (hamstring) while Mal Rosas Jnr and Riley Bice have been omitted.

A RED-HOT Sydney and St Kilda clash at the SCG to open Sunday's action.

The Swans bounced back immediately after copping a reality check on the road against Geelong, piling on 25 goals to blow away Richmond on their home deck.

St Kilda has finalised its team to face Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.

The Saints have made six changes to the line-up from last week's loss to Hawthorn, headlined by midfield star Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and debutant Campbell Lake.

Lake, 21, is set to feature at AFL level only one week after being taken at Pick 7 in the AFL Mid-Season Draft from Southport. The small forward kicked two goals in St Kilda's VFL win over Box Hill last week.

Only a week after joining the club via the Mid-Season Draft, small forward Campbell Lake will make his AFL debut on Sunday at the SCG.

Sydney Swans set for prime-time action in the run home

The AFL has today announced the remaining time slots for Rounds 16-22.

The ladder-leading Sydney Swans have welcomed a swathe of prime-time matches to close out the home-and-away season, after the AFL today announced the time slots for Rounds 16-22.

The Swans will feature under lights on a Thursday or Friday night on four occasions during that period.

After a season of record crowds at the SCG so far, the remaining rounds are headlined by a Friday night home blockbuster against the Western Bulldogs in Round 17, with the match to become the club’s 2026 Pride Game. Since 2016, Sydney has been proud to host Pride Game at the SCG, celebrating inclusivity with the LGBTIQA+ community.

R16-22 FIXTURE: Twilight and Friday double headers, derbies get primetime treatment

THE FIRST Friday night Western Derby in more than two decades and a standalone Saturday night Showdown are some of the features of the round 16-22 fixture, which was released in full on Thursday.

As reported by AFL.com.au on Wednesday night, Sydney and Geelong are the darlings of primetime football in the final third of the season, with each of the Swans and Cats getting four Thursday or Friday night games between rounds 16 and 22, while none of Carlton, Essendon, Gold Coast, Port Adelaide or Richmond feature in the blockbuster slots.

The Blues and Bombers had a combined seven Thursday or Friday night games in rounds 16-22 last year, but have been overlooked altogether after managing just two wins between them so far in 2026.

TEAMS: Brownlow winner returns, Crows load up, Swans get a boost

The teams for Friday and Saturday's round four matches are in, plus squads for Sunday's games

REIGNING Brownlow medallist Matt Rowell has been named for his first game of the year, Sydney superstar Isaac Heeney returns from injury, as does Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson.

Meanwhile, former Port Adelaide captain Ollie Wines returns for his first match of 2026 after being named an emergency for last week's shock loss to West Coast, and Essendon's Nik Cox is in the mix for his first match since round 22, 2024.

Rowell had surgery on a fractured finger after the AAMI AFL Origin match in February and has missed the Suns' first three matches, but he will return to face Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday. Gold Coast will be without Christian Petracca (hamstring) and Bailey Humphrey (suspension).

As 2025 slipped away Dean Cox took the chance to change his side's game style

IT HAD been a tough old debut season in the coach's chair for Dean Cox.

His Sydney side was beset by injuries and clinging to the outskirts of the top eight, effectively three games adrift of finals qualifications given Gold Coast had a match in hand.

The easy money was on Greater Western Sydney for the Sydney Derby, given the Giants wanted to push for a top-four spot.

But the Swans came out firing in the first half, jumping out to a highly unexpected 35-point lead.

Tom Barrass lands heavily as New-look Swans fire early at MCG

tom barrass attacked the aerial contest with courage but landed heavily as Sydney’s new-look forward mix produced a frantic start in round two at the MCG; Malcolm Rosas jnr and Charlie Curnow combined for a pair of early goals, and the Swans pushed through the corridor to relentless effect. The clash forms part of round two of the 2026 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, played at the MCG on Thursday night. The sequence left the contest lively and raised immediate questions about bodies and momentum for both teams.

Sydney’s recruits wasted no time setting the tone: Malcolm Rosas jnr and Charlie Curnow combined for two quick goals in a fast opening period. The Swans repeatedly took the game on through the corridor and found targets, including a finish to Justin McInerney that capped an aggressive passage. Across their opening two matches Sydney sit 2-0 and have passed 100 points in each game, even while Curnow has contributed just three of the side’s 35 goals this season.

Shoulder surgery sidelines gun Swan for bulk of season

SYDNEY star Errol Gulden will undergo shoulder surgery this week and is set to miss the bulk of the 2026 season in a big blow for the Swans.

The club confirmed the gun midfielder will miss four months of football after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the Swans' round one win over Brisbane.

The 23-year-old will undergo surgery this week, ruling him out until at least July.

SYDNEY continued on from its dominant Opening Round win with an early blitz that as good as closed Brisbane out of the contest on Saturday night, on the way to a 15.14 (104) to 8.12 (60) result at the SCG.

But the victory may come at a cost, with superstar duo Errol Gulden and Isaac Heeney nursing injuries as they both left the match early in the fourth quarter.

Sydney blew the game open in the first term, putting 40 points on the board in sensational fashion before Brisbane scored.
