Portsmouth 1-2 Swansea City: Pompey survival hopes suffer a blow as Galbraith and Key strike

Ethan Galbraith's goal was his fourth since joining Swansea from Leyton Orient last summer

Portsmouth's Championship survival prospects suffered a blow as they were beaten 2-1 by Swansea City at Fratton Park.

Ethan Galbraith's precise finish put Swansea in front and the visitors' first-half control was rewarded with a second goal when Josh Key's deflected drive dipped inside the far post.

Portsmouth had hit the woodwork through Jacob Brown early on, but laboured in attack until the on-loan Luton forward headed his side back into the game after the break.

With that John Mousinho's team found some momentum for the first time, but Swansea held on to condemn Portsmouth to a fifth loss in their past eight league games.

Team news | Portsmouth v Swansea City

Jay Fulton comes back into the Swansea City team in the sole change for tonight’s Championship clash at Portsmouth.

The Scot takes the place of Marko Stamenic in midfield, with the Swans otherwise unchanged from the weekend victory over Stoke City.

That means Lawrence Vigouroux continues in goal, with Josh Key, captain Ben Cabango, Cameron Burgess and Josh Tymon making up the back four.

Fulton slots in alongside Goncalo Franco and Ethan Galbraith in the middle of the park, with Ronald and Jisung Eom out wide.

Zan Vipotnik leads the line for the Swans with the Slovenian just a solitary goal away from bringing up 20 for the campaign.

John Mousinho fumes at Portsmouth’s first-half display

John Mousinho was furious with Portsmouth’s first-half performance in their 2-1 defeat to Swansea.

Ethan Galbraith and Josh Key netted eye-catching goals while Pompey regularly gave away possession and lost duels in the opening period.

And despite Jacob Brown pulling one back after the break, Portsmouth lost at Fratton Park for a third straight match and sit just four points above the Championship relegation zone.

Pompey boss Mousinho said: “We were really poor in the first half and much improved in the second. We nearly got ourselves back into it but we gave ourselves too much to do.

“It is very disappointing. You think where was the intent in the first half? Where was the aggression and front-footedness?

Preview | Swansea City v Wrexham

Swansea City and Wrexham lock horns for the first time in 20 years as they meet under the lights at the Swansea.com Stadium this evening (8pm).

The teams last faced each other in Swansea in the final game at our former Vetch Field home in May 2005, and both clubs have been on very different journeys in the intervening period.

The hosts are seeking to record a third home league win in a row, while Wrexham have lost just one of their last 11 games in the Championship.

Swans boss Vitor Matos has reported no new injury concerns ahead of this fixture.

Wrexham lose late! Adam Idah scores injury-time winner for Swansea as Phil Parkinson's side continue five-game winless run with dismal performance in Welsh derby

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo made a last-gasp howler as Swansea City came from behind to earn a dramatic 2-1 Championship victory over Wrexham in the Welsh derby on Friday evening. Second-half goals from Zan Vipotnik and Adam Idah helped Vitor Matos' side earn all three points after Phil Parkinson's visitors had taken the lead thanks to an own goal from defender Cameron Burgess.

In the first league fixture between the two sides for 22 years, Swansea calved out an early opening when in-form striker Vipotnik fashioned half a yard of space on the edge of the box, only for his shot to be blocked in the nick of time.

Swansea v Wrexham – the 'derby' which catches the eye

Wrexham have 15 wins compared to Swansea's eight in the 30 previous league games between the clubs

Swansea City versus Wrexham. Wales' most successful side this century against the one with perhaps the grandest ambitions.

The club who thrived for a while in the Premier League against the team who will not be satisfied until they get there.

South-west Wales versus north, Snoop Dogg and Luka Modric against Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

Swansea versus Wrexham is a game that would always have caught the eye in Wales.

But these days it is a fixture with much wider appeal, thanks largely to the star names in the clubs' respective boardrooms.
