At 11:50am this Wednesday, February 18, the weather station at Sydney Airport hit 35.3°C. At that moment, it was the hottest temperature anywhere in Australia.

It’s not often that an Australian capital city has Australia's warmest reading at a given moment in time. Normally, rural or outback areas can claim that crown.

Hull KR sweat on Lewis for WCC after shock Super League loss

A ‘frustrated’ Willie Peters reckons star five-eighth Mikey Lewis will have no-one to blame but himself if a tripping incident in the seismic loss to Super League debutants York endangers his World Club Challenge and Vegas involvement.

Lewis, the 2024 Man Steel, will come under scrutiny from the match review committee after tripping rival Liam Harris after he had kicked the ball during the second half of York’s blazing 19-18 win at LNER Stadium, secured with a 76th minute Ata Hingano field goal.

In their first-ever Super League game, the Knights stunned the champions and winners of the British domestic treble on opening night, a week out from the Robins’ world title bout with Brisbane.

Super League: York Knights 19-18 Hull KR – York stun defending champions

York Knights are the 25th different team to play in Super League

Reigning champions Hull KR suffered a shock defeat by debutants York Knights in the opening game of the 2026 Super League season.

Sam Wood's early try gave the hosts a surprise lead before Jai Whitbread barged over to make it 6-6 at the break.

Whitbread reached over for his second score to put the visitors in front and Sauaso Sue went in under the posts to seemingly put Hull KR in charge.

However, the game was turned on its head after the away side were reduced to 12 players after Mikey Lewis was sin-binned for a petulant trip on Liam Harris.

Major twist for Broncos as eight-Test star could be banned and miss World Club Challenge

The Brisbane Broncos might be facing a Hull KR team without Mikey Lewis in the World Club Challenge after the star half was sin-binned for a trip on Thursday night in the Super League. Hull KR suffered a stunning 19-18 loss to the newly-promoted York Knights in the opening game of the new Super League season.

Willie Peters' Hull side were leading 18-6 and looked well on their way to victory. But the match was turned on its head when Lewis was sin-binned for tripping Knights halfback Liam Harris while he was chasing his own kick.

Lewis stuck out his leg as Harris tried to run past him, and was sent to the bin for 10 minutes. It opened the door for the Knights to stage an incredible comeback, which ultimately saw Ata Hingano kick the game-winning field-goal with four minutes to play.
