    Round two of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) will determine which Pacific Island teams will stay in the race for a top-two finish in both the men's and women's competitions.

    In the women's competition, the clash between the Papua New Guinea Orchids and Fiji Bulikula in Port Moresby on Saturday will determine which team keeps its hopes alive in Pool B.

    The PNG Orchids had a big 58-4 win over France in round one at home, while the Fiji Bulikula lost 12-18 to the Kiwi Ferns.

    If the Orchids win, then they should be in the running for a top-two finish, but if the Bulikula gets the victory, then that throws the pool wide open.

    Teams swing changes as 1000km looms

    Teams head into the unknown on Sunday as 161 gruelling laps loom, with four engines changed overnight.

    This weekend's event has largely been held in warm conditions, with race day set to run under sunny skies.

    Heading into the race, just two cars — the Ryan Wood Toyota and Rylan Gray Ford — have found the concrete in a big way, but that hasn't stopped teams ringing the changes.

    Triple Eight (#88 Ford), Dick Johnson Racing (#38 Ford), Brad Jones Racing (#14 Toyota) and Objective Racing (#11 Ford) all changed engines overnight in a bid to leave no stone unturned.

    Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup said his team was "throwing the kitchen sink" at the Broc Feeney/Nick Percat Ford, which has been off the pace relative to the weekend front-runners.

    The Triple Eight ace and high profile co-driving recruit Nick Percat were among the pre-event favourites.

    However, the #88 Ford Mustang showed no signs of being a threat at any point throughout the weekend.

    Placed an average of 18th across the six practice sessions, Feeney was a shock omission from Saturday’s Shootout with just 12th in Friday qualifying.

    Their struggle was made all the more mysterious by the fact the sister Will Brown/Scott Pye entry qualified sixth and finished second.

    “[The pace] wasn’t there, that’s for sure,” Feeney told the Cool Down Lap podcast.

    “I probably thought we were a bit better than what we were today to be honest.

    Engine changes, rebuilds set stage for Bathurst Saturday

    TOYOTA teams have expedited the anticipated move to execute scheduled pre-race engine changes at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

    Reliability has been a question mark all season for the Supra’s 2UR-GSE V8, although a triumphant run in The Bend 500 alleviated some of those concerns.

    Nonetheless, it was assumed that Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Brad Jones Racing may look to swap over motors following Saturday’s track action to have the freshest possible unit at their disposal for the 161-lap Great Race.

    Instead, engine changes were executed last night for the Walkinshaw TWG #1 of Chaz Mostert/Fabian Coulthard and the Brad Jones Racing #8 of André Heimgartner/Bryce Fullwood.

    Peel Thunder put an exclamation point on a dominant season with a one-sided Sullivan Logistics WAFL Grand Final victory over a shellshocked Claremont at Optus Stadium.

    The minor premiers led from start to finish to claim their fourth WAFL flag and second in three years with an emphatic 62-point triumph – 16.17 (113) to 7.9 (51) – in front of 19,210 fans.

    The Thunder capped off a historic weekend for their AFL alignment club Fremantle, which qualified for just the second AFL Grand Final in their history.

    Fourteen AFL-listed players lined up for Peel including several hoping to play two deciders in as many weeks with defender Brandon Walker, ruckman Sean Darcy, winger Nathan O’Driscoll and veteran midfielder Jaeger O’Meara doing their chances no harm.

    Peel Thunder’s Grand Final Selection Squeeze

    Peel Thunder coach Adam Read admits when his team is announced for Sunday’s Sullivan Logistics WAFL Grand Final there will be players who are left heartbroken.

    Read is on the verge of his second premiership as coach of Peel but knows the tough calls which will have to be made.

    “Since I have taken this job, I have gone through every coaching course you could imagine and I don’t think it teaches you about how you are supposed to have those tough conversations on selection,” Read said.

    The availability of Fremantle Dockers defender Brennan Cox is a bonus for the minor premiers who will start up to 14 AFL-listed players against Claremont.

    GEELONG hosts Richmond under lights at GMHBA Stadium as the Cats prepare for another premiership tilt.

    Geelong (14-8) was in serious danger of losing its grip on a top-six spot as North Melbourne made a blistering start before the Cats turned the tables to claim a rousing victory.

    The Cats have now won five in a row and can avoid the wildcard round with a victory against the Tigers, while holding out hope that multiple other results fall their way to hand them a double chance. 

    Richmond (3-19) gave up some of the gains it had made with a win against West Coast, then a narrow loss to Adelaide as it was largely uncompetitive in a defeat to St Kilda.

    Howe will be a welcomed addition to the Pies defensive stocks who will have the tough task of manning a dangerous Adelaide forward-line featuring keys Taylor Walker, Riley Thilthorpe and Finnbar Maley.

    After impressing in his five games since debuting in the Pies’ Round 15 win over Port Adelaide, young midfielder Sam Swadling has been omitted for the match.

    Team update: Nicks confirms early Round 20 selection news

    A key defender has been ruled out of our match against Collingwood.

    Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks has ruled out key defender Mark Keane from the Crows’ Round 20 clash against Collingwood at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

    Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Nicks said Keane would miss the game due to illness, with fellow backman Nick Murray set to be included in the team.

    “You would’ve noticed Mark Keane wasn't out there (at Captain’s run),” Nicks said. 

    “It's been one that's just stuck around, so he's not going to play. 

    “Nick Murray will play for us, so that's straightforward. Muz has been in really strong form in the SANFL, so it’s disappointing for Mark, but reinforces the strength of the squad and how important it is.”
