    No more tears left to cry as Godwin goes from hell to the mountaintop

    Four years ago, Georgia Godwin was at the peak of her powers as she led Australia to silver in the women's team final at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

    She performed all four of the apparatus and had the highest score in three of them. 

    This time around, her first two rotations were just OK, aided by brilliant performances by Kate McDonald, whose 14.200 was the best uneven bars score of the day; and Breanna Scott on beam.

    They backed it up on the floor, with first Scott, then McDonald posting the day's second-best scores on the apparatus.

    Then Godwin reminded the world of her class with a stunning routine that earned her a 13.350 and left Australia in top spot with only the vault to come.

    With another haul of medals from the pool, Australia has widened the lead on the medal tally with a total of 17 gold medals, nine silver and 13 bronze.

    Cam McEvoy became the first person to swim 50m under 21 seconds twice and Lani Pallister became the first to win the women’s 1500m freestyle race at a Commonwealth Games. Jesse Moore took bronze in the men’s all-around gymnastics final and was followed by Breanna Scott’s silver in the women’s.     Premier referred to corruption watchdog over Big Build

    A state premier has been referred to an anti-corruption watchdog over allegations her office directly intervened to allow CFMEU corruption.

    Victoria’s corruption watchdog has been asked to investigate Premier Jacinta Allan.

    The under-fire premier is accused of personally intervening to ensure a CFMEU-backed consortium was hired to deliver one of the state’s Big Build projects.

    The complaint, lodged by shadow Attorney- General James Newbury, has asked Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission to investigate Allan and any of her staff involved in the deal when she was transport infrastructure minister in 2022.

    “IBAC has the power to look at what the premier and her office may have done in relation to these decisions,” Newbury told reporters.

    Jacinta Allan has admitted that criminals have infiltrated some of Victoria’s largest construction projects – but has again rejected growing calls for a royal commission into alleged corruption involving unions and labour hire companies.

    In an opinion piece published in the Age on Thursday night, the premier wrote that “we now know that criminals operated on some of Victoria’s construction sites” during projects dubbed by the Labor government as the Big Build.

    Ugle-Hagan, who has 67 games for the Bulldogs with 103 goals in his career, did not play a single game last season due to mental health issues.

    Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will make his AFL return and Suns debut against the Hawks

    DAMIEN Hardwick shed a tear when telling Jamarra Ugle-Hagan he would make his Gold Coast debut against Hawthorn on Saturday.

    After being given a lifeline by the Suns during the off-season, the former No.1 draft pick will run out in Launceston for his first AFL game in 596 days.

    Hardwick said there was a "loud cheer" from the playing group when the announcement was made on Thursday morning.

    "There was a tear from the player and probably the coach as well," Hardwick said.

    "It's an incredible story. He's done a power of work. We've made him earn it, but we've been so impressed by what he's brought."

    Scott Pape: Landlord Breaks Down Over ‘Embarrassing’ $30,000 Dental Dilemma — Brutal Financial Choice Revealed

    Facing a choice that many would consider unexpected for a property owner, a 43-year-old nurse and her lawyer husband revealed they cannot afford more than $30, 000 worth of dental treatment despite owning a home and two investment properties — a situation that prompted them to write to scott pape for guidance. “I am in tears as I write this, ” she said, describing being “asset rich, cash poor, mortgaged to the hilt” as childcare and mortgage costs squeeze their budget.

    The couple say their two investment properties cover their own costs but provide little extra cash. Both investments have “gone up significantly in value, ” yet they are unable to refinance with their bank and do not want to sell because they fear losing half the gain to capital gains tax. Their household outgoings are substantial: a primary mortgage of $7, 000 a month and $3, 000 a month on childcare, while their superannuation balance stands at $416, 000. The nurse described the dental problem as “embarrassing, and at times painful, ” and contemplated dipping into retirement savings or traveling to Thailand for cheaper treatment.
