    Sugar high(st): more than twelve tons of KitKat’s ‘new chocolate range’ stolen in Italy

    Thieves made a break for 413,793 units of the company’s new F1 line bars which could cause shortage before Easter

    A large shipment of KitKat bars was stolen while in transit to distributors, a major candy crime right before the Easter holiday that could cause shortages for customers.

    The truck carrying 413,793 units of a “new chocolate range”, about 12 tons of chocolate bars, was pilfered while driving through Europe on 26 March, Agence France-Presse reported.

    A spokesperson for Nestlé, KitKat’s parent company, confirmed the theft to the Guardian, adding that the company is investigating the theft with local authorities and supply chain partners.

    Swiss food giant Nestlé says about 12 tons, or 413,793 candy bars, of its KitKat chocolate brand were stolen after leaving its production site in Italy earlier this week for Poland.

    The company, based in Vevey, Switzerland, said in a statement Friday that “the vehicle and its load are still nowhere to be found.”

    The shipment of the crunchy bars, made of waffles covered with chocolate, disappeared last week while en route between production and distribution locations. The chocolate bars were to be distributed throughout Europe.

    The missing candy bars could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets, the company said, but if this does happen, all products can be traced using the unique batch code assigned to individual bars.

    Nebraska wildfires burn more than 750,000 acres across the state

    LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN/KSNB/KNOP/WOWT) – Four major wildfires are burning across Nebraska, collectively scorching more than 750,000 acres of land statewide. One person has died as a result of the fires.

    Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen and Adjutant General Craig Strong held a press conference Monday addressing the state’s response to ongoing wildfires in central and western Nebraska. As of the briefing, 47 Nebraska National Guard soldiers and airmen were deployed in support of firefighting efforts, including two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters equipped with Bambi buckets that conducted 68 water drops Saturday, delivering more than 46,000 gallons of water. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds also sent two additional Blackhawk helicopters and crews, which arrived Saturday evening. The Rocky Mountain Incident Command Team — described as more than 2,000 personnel — was activated Saturday afternoon to support local fire chiefs, who retain command authority.

    Biggest wildfire in Nebraska history continues to burn out of control

    Three major wildfires, including the largest one in Nebraska history, have burned around 600,000 acres of land in central and western Nebraska and remained 0% contained on Sunday after killing one person, officials said.

    Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen has declared a state of emergency, freeing up additional resources to battle the blazes. Pillen has also deployed Nebraska National Guard troops to assist local firefighters.

    Two Nebraska Army National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters are also working to fight the blazes, officials said.

    The Morrill Fire has consumed more than 460,000 acres across Morrill, Arthur and Keith counties, making it the biggest wildfire in Nebraska history, officials said. The fire killed one person on Thursday in Arthur County, Pillen said at a news conference on Saturday.

    Centrelink change prompts ‘double whack’ warning to Australian retirees: 'Reduced'

    Thousands of Age Pension and other Centrelink recipients will see a reduction in their payments following another increase in the deeming rate. Deeming rates are the rates people are assumed to earn on financial assets and they impact calculations for Centrelink payments.

    From March 20, the lower deeming rate will be increased from 0.75 per cent to 1.25 per cent. The higher deeming rate will increase from 2.75 per cent to 3.25 per cent.

    The lower rate applies to all financial assets held by singles up to $64,200 and couples up to $106,200. The higher rate applies to balances above these thresholds.

    Deeming rates set to rise, here's what it means for your pocket

    Some pensioners and income support recipients could see small reductions in their payments after the federal government announced an increase deeming rates for the second time since the pandemic.

    Deeming is a system used to estimate how much income people earn from financial assets such as savings, shares and managed funds.

    Rather than assessing actual returns, Centrelink applies standard "deeming rates" to calculate income for pension and payment eligibility.

    The Australian Government Actuary (AGA) recommended lifting deeming rates, which the federal government accepted, with an announcement on February 20 that changes would take effect from March 20, 2026. This is the same day pensions will also be indexed.

    When antique clock collector Robert Kennedy and master clocksmith Nagaraj climbed the bell tower of the historic Holy Trinity Cathedral at Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district to inspect its tower clock recently, they were thrilled to make a remarkable discovery: the timepiece predates the Great Bell of the Great Clock at the Palace of Westminster, London, nicknamed Big Ben.

    A routine inspection of the tower clock at the historic Holy Trinity Cathedral in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, has led to a remarkable revelation: the 171‑year‑old timepiece predates London’s iconic Big Ben by five years. Antique clock collector Robert Kennedy and master clocksmith Nagaraj, invited by the church to assess the clock’s failing chime, found that the mechanism was manufactured in 1854 by John Moore & Sons of Clerkenwell and installed in 1855 making it possibly the oldest functioning tower clock in India.

    Meta shares jump 10% on stronger-than-expected revenue forecast

    Meta reported fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday that topped estimates and issued stronger-than-expected sales guidance. The stock popped as much as 10% in after-hours trading.

    Here's how the company did, compared with estimates from analysts polled by LSEG:

    Meta said it expects first-quarter sales to come in the range of $53.5 billion to $56.5 billion, ahead of analyst estimates of $51.41 billion.

    Finance chief Susan Li said that forecast was "really underpinned by the strong demand that we saw through the end of Q4 and continuing into the start of 2026."

    The company said fourth-quarter sales rose 24% year-over-year. The company said its advertising business generated revenue of $58.1 billion for the period. Advertising made up nearly 97% of the company's overall revenue for the quarter.

    Meta stock climbs on Q4 earnings beat, plans to spend as much as $135 billion on AI build-out in 2026

    Meta (META) announced its fourth quarter earnings on Wednesday, topping analysts' expectations on the top and bottom lines.

    The company also provided its 2026 capital expenditures guidance, saying it anticipates spending between $115 billion and $135 billion in 2026, up from the $72.22 billion the company spent in 2025.

    In Q4, Meta reported earnings per share (EPS) of $8.88 on revenue of $59.9 billion, ahead of the $8.16 and $58.4 billion analysts were expecting based on Bloomberg analyst consensus estimates.

    Meta’s Reality Labs division brought in $955 million versus an anticipated $959 million. But the company also booked losses related to the segment of $6 billion. Analysts were expecting an operating loss of $5.9 billion.

    More than a dozen people have been assessed by paramedics after a truck collided with multiple cars at a major road connecting Wollongong and south-west Sydney.

    New South Wales Ambulance said the semi-trailer collided with five cars after hitting a guardrail on Picton Road near Cataract, north of Wollongong, about midday on Wednesday.

    A total of 13 people were involved and assessed by paramedics at the scene.

    Chief Inspector Norm Rees from NSW Ambulance said five of those were transported to hospital, including a male driver of a car in a serious condition.

    The largest Priceline franchisee, Infinity Pharmacy Group, has had half of its stores put into receivership by Wesfarmers following years of financial difficulty.

    Infinity Pharmacy Group operates 120 sites nationwide, which are mostly Priceline-branded stores. Priceline’s parent, Wesfarmers, placed the 54 stores into receivership on Wednesday, but declined to state how much it was owed. This caused conflict with another creditor, listed company Paragon Care.

    PD breaking news – Administrators appointed for Infinity pharmacies

    Wesfarmers Health CCO Richard Pearson has informed Priceline Pharmacy franchisees that receivers and administrators have been appointed for 54 Infinity pharmacies.

    “As many of you are aware, we have worked tirelessly with the Infinity Pharmacy Group (Infinity) over many years to support them to trade through significant financial challenges,” Pearson said in an open letter to franchisees.

    “Despite these efforts, Infinity’s failure to meet their financial obligations over a prolonged period, as well as their worsening debt position, has placed them in an untenable situation, threatening their ability to continue trading.”

    Receivers and managers KPMG and administrators Teneo will now take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the pharmacies.
