    Film-making effects change. Director Rachel Dretzin, a former investigative journalist for Frontline, will testify to that.

    “These films that I’m making,” says Dretzin, “that other documentarians are making, are often more effective than the legal system at effecting change; psychological change and also sometimes systemic and criminal change.”

    But the impact film-making has in Trust Me: The False Prophet feels more immediate. The riveting four-part series follows a pair of documentary film-makers, turned FBI informants, who helped take down Samuel Bateman, a polygamous Mormon cult leader currently serving a 50-year sentence for luring minors into criminal sex acts.

    The True Story Behind 'Trust Me: The False Prophet'

    Netflix’s Trust Me: The False Prophet is structured less as a conventional true crime retelling and more as a primary source reconstruction. Built around hundreds of hours of footage, recorded conversations, and firsthand testimony, the four-part series documents how self-proclaimed “religious prophet” Samuel Rappylee Bateman established control over members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a community called Short Creek, and traces a federal investigation that uncovered how Bateman was running a multi-state child sexual abuse conspiracy.

    The series relies heavily on material captured in real time by cult researcher Christine Marie and her husband, the videographer Tolga Katas, whose close proximity to Bateman’s inner circle provided federal investigators with direct evidence of his activities.

    Gotta assemble them all: Lego unveils new Pokémon sets

    The brands have paired up to unveil the first ever collection of Lego Pokémon sets, which are in turn based on some of the most iconic Pokémon from the franchise’s 30 year history: Eevee, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, and of course Pikachu, who comes with a design that shows him leaping out of his Poke Ball, ready for battle.

    Broncos clinch AFC West, Texans clinch playoff berth with Houston's win over Chargers

    By defeating Los Angeles, 20-16, Houston simultaneously clinched a spot in the playoffs and allowed the Denver Broncos to clinch an AFC West title, ensuring the Bolts will be a wild-card team.

    Houston is no stranger to earning a postseason triumph against L.A., having beaten the Chargers last season in the AFC Wild Card Round. With another win in a playoff-like atmosphere, DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud notched their third postseason berth in three seasons as a head coach-quarterback duo.

    It's been Ryans' defense that's been the lynchpin for the Texans' success and in-season comeback.
