Ken Hinkley says he’s “not committed to doing any coaching jobs” after the experienced AFL coach was named as the new favourite to take the reins at Tasmania – the league’s latest expansion club which is slated to play its first match in less than two years.
Long-time Port Adelaide coach Hinkley, who achieved close to a 60 per cent winning record across 13 AFL seasons, confirmed he’d recently met with Tasmania Devils chief executive Brendon Gale.
But 59-year-old Hinkley said his discussions with Tasmania were focused on providing advice to a start-up operation.
“I didn’t meet with Tassie last week. I did meet with them two weeks ago,” Hinkley said after he was named on Channel Seven’s Agenda Setters as the new favourite – ahead of Nathan Buckley – to be Tasmania’s inaugural senior coach.

Built around hundreds of hours of footage, recorded conversations, and firsthand testimony, the four-part series documents how self-proclaimed “religious prophet” Samuel Rappylee Bateman established control over members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a community called Short Creek, and traces a federal investigation that uncovered how Bateman was running a multi-state child sexual abuse conspiracy.
The series relies heavily on material captured in real time by cult researcher Christine Marie and her husband, the videographer Tolga Katas, whose close proximity to Bateman’s inner circle provided federal investigators with direct evidence of his activities.

That means the Broncos will host their first playoff game since January 2016. They can wrap up the AFC's No. 1 seed as early as Sunday, if the Patriots, Jaguars and Bills all lose or tie their Week 17 games.
The Broncos' division title ended a nine-year stretch by the Kansas City Chiefs (6-10), whose run of seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances ended during an injury-riddled season that included a serious knee injury to Patrick Mahomes.
The Houston Texans essentially handed the Chargers two losses on Saturday.
By defeating Los Angeles, 20-16, Houston simultaneously clinched a spot in the playoffs and allowed the Denver Broncos to clinch an AFC West title, ensuring the Bolts will be a wild-card team.
