Melbourne list boss Tim Lamb found himself in an unfamiliar position at the end of last year.

Heralded as a key architect in the Demons’ drought-busting 2021 premiership, the former long-serving Victoria Police officer was suddenly under pressure – at least externally – for how he handled the high-profile exits of champion midfielders Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

It followed another disastrous season for Melbourne that cost coach Simon Goodwin his job.

Both Petracca and Oliver showed interest in playing elsewhere 12 months before the Demons eventually traded the contracted pair in wildly contrasting deals to Gold Coast and GWS in October.

They’re half of all voters, and they’re mad as hell about property prices

For millions of young Australians, housing affordability is the subject that looms over every life decision they make. After years of talk, they want action now.

Sabrina Elarjoun is studying medicine while living at home with her parents in Sydney’s south-west. Dominic Lorrimer

Sabrina Elarjoun, 24, is living with her parents in Sydney’s south-west while she is studying medicine. She is hoping to become a general practitioner or a gynaecologist, but even after years of study, there is no guarantee her wage will be high enough to buy property where her family and friends live.

“We’re expected to work hard, study hard, but there are things that people would have looked forward to 20 or 30 years ago, it’s not the same for us. Buying properties before, that would have been seen as just something that you do, whereas now you’re lucky if you can buy a property,” Elarjoun said.

Basic habits to help young people be financially resilient

With interest rates on the rise again, house prices continuing to soar, and inflation outpacing wages, it's no surprise that many people are struggling with the cost of living.

Increasingly, young Australians say they're not just worried about the situation now, but also what it means for the future.

At just 16 years old, Tilly says rising house prices are something she thinks about often.

"If I'm feeling that worry at 16 years old, then it's probably a problem," she says.

Elijah, 23, says, "Trying to escape getting caught in the rent and being able to buy a house, for example, is seeming more and more unrealistic as time goes by."

‘Identifying as depressed’: Younger Aussies losing hope amid housing crisis

A chief executive of an Australian think tank has warned younger men are dating less, marrying later, and struggling more with their mental health amid a housing crisis.

A chief executive of an Australian think tank has warned younger men are dating less, marrying later, and struggling more with their mental health amid a housing crisis.

Page Research Centre CEO Gerard Holland spoke at the Aspire Conference in Sydney this week to talk about Australia's biggest politcal, economic, and social issues.

"Young people want to build their lives on a firm foundation, not on the uncertainty of a volatile rental market and a one-bedder apartment in Zetland or Strathfield," he said during his speech.

‘They are tired’: F1 boss sends clear message as major grand prix shake-up emerges

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says the sport is considering boosting the number of sprint races to 12 among other format changes to shake-up race weekends.

Sprint races, which run to just 100 kilometres and last around 30 minutes, were introduced in 2021 to trade practice sessions for competitive action.

The sprint weekend format has been gradually tweaked into its current configuration, which sees just one practice session on Friday before sprint qualifying later that day. Saturday then begins with the sprint race, with the usual grand prix qualifying session following later in the afternoon. The Sunday grand prix takes place as normal.

F1 sprint race idea could lead to 'enormous damage' for teams

Former F1 star Pedro de la Rosa has warned something must be done to find more opportunities for young drivers to get time in F1 machinery as talks continue over increasing the number of sprint races on the calendar.

The 54-year-old previously raced in F1 between 1999 and 2012, driving for Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren, Sauber and HRT, with his career best result in the pinnacle of motorsport a second-place finish at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard is also an ambassador for the currently struggling Aston Martin F1 team, and during an appearance in the commentary box at Bahrain pre-season testing this week, questioned how fair the sport's current 'young driver' label is.

Drivers wary of increasing the number of Sprints

As F1 seeks to at least double the number of Sprints each season, drivers feel it is the wrong way to go.

As a footnote to the statement issued by the FIA following last week's meeting of the F1 Commission, it was confirmed that the sport's powers that be are seeking to increase the number of Sprints from 6 to 12 next season.

The move was "based on the demand from fans and promoters" we were told, and F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali subsequently confirmed the intention, even though it wasn't that long ago that he was pushing for two-day race weekends, insisting that Fridays were a waste of time as nobody really attended.

BTS stand to make $1bn as they announce mammoth comeback tour

K-pop idols BTS have announced a globe-spanning, 79-date world tour, marking their return to the stage after a four-year hiatus.

With dates in London, Tokyo, Munich, Sydney and Los Angeles, it's likely to be one of the biggest tours of the year, especially as the band haven't played outside of the US and South Korea since 2018.

Their previous world tour set records for a K-pop act – earning about $246 million (£182 million) at the global box office. Along the way, BTS became the first Korean act to headline Wembley Stadium.

The new tour will kick off with three nights in South Korea's Goyang Stadium on 9 April, 2026, before setting off across Asia, Europe and America.

BTS propelled K-pop to global stardom. Nearly four years later, they’re back

When the world’s biggest K-pop group announced their hiatus in late 2022, they were at the height of superstardom. They regularly topped music charts, won prestigious awards, and arguably transformed the genre into a global cultural phenomenon.

Now, BTS is back – and coming to a city near you. As the clock struck midnight on Wednesday in Seoul, the group announced the dates and locations of a highly anticipated world tour, with their new album expected to release in March – the band’s first in nearly four years.

In what will be their biggest tour yet, BTS will perform across 34 regions, starting in April with multiple concerts in Goyang, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan, before traveling to other cities across Asia, North America, Europe, South America and Australia. The tour is currently scheduled to conclude in Manila, Philippines in March 2027, though a message on the band’s website said more dates would be announced in Japan, the Middle East “and more”.

It’s official: BTS are back! For those who are fans of the K-Pop group, it’s been a long time coming. Nine years, in fact.

While the group have been active throughout the global pandemic and performed a small run of shows in Seoul, Busan, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, it’s been a long time since ARMY outside those cities have been able to see the members in concert.

Of course, we have been lucky enough to see the solo projects from each of the members – some of which have included tours in the US, Asia and Europe – many fans have been wondering when we’ll see BTS in Australia again. Luckily, it could be sooner than you think.

Adelaide: This team was supposed to be Australia’s weakest Ashes side since 2010-11. This team has repeatedly been referred to as “not the strongest Australian side”, “not vintage” or “not as good as earlier teams”. This team has at times been called too old, too outspoken, too injury-affected and even, bizarrely, too woke.

About 2.10pm local time in Adelaide, they sealed the destiny of the Ashes in the space of three matches, or, by another measure, just 11 days. It was emphatic. England did their best to provide a Rorke’s Drift rearguard, helped by a hamstring injury to Nathan Lyon, but Australia still found a way through.

Grandstand at Stumps: An England fight, but Australia retain The Ashes

Australia retains The Ashes with an unassailable lead in the series as it secures the win in Adelaide.

A Nathan Lyon injury, another stellar catch from Marnus Labuschagne and an English fightback with the bat made it an entertaining day for Corbin Middlemas, Jason Gillespie, Darren Lehmann and Stuart Clark to dissect.

Hear from Labuschagne, Cameron Green and Brendon McCullum, as well as the full post-match presentation.

On the day Bazball was officially laid to rest at the Adelaide Oval, after a tense and fluctuating 11th day of this Ashes series, Australia’s victorious cricketers pulled on fresh white T-shirts handed out in the dressing rooms by hometown hero and party starter Travis Head.

Across the front, in big red lettering, was the word ‘Ronball’, accompanied by a cartoon of Australia’s beloved coach Andrew “Ronald” McDonald.

Zoo Announces Sudden Death of 'Beloved' Animal

Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dane has revealed he plans to keep acting after his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Dane, 53, appeared in an episode of NBC drama Brilliant Minds, his first on-screen role since announcing his diagnosis in April. His character was a firefighter struggling to share his ALS diagnosis with his wife. On Tuesday, Dane was a guest on a virtual panel hosted by the I AM ALS organization. “I’m fairly limited in what I can do physically as an actor, but I still have my brain, and I still have my speech, so I’m willing to just do about anything. I’ll take on any role,” Dane said. However, he said the neurodegenerative disease will limit his choices. “From here on out, it’s going to have to be ALS-centric. It’s going to be very difficult for me to play any other role. I’m fine with that. I’m grateful that I can still work in any capacity.” Dane said he had surprised himself with how well he was dealing with ALS. “I don’t think anybody would blame me if I went upstairs in my bedroom, crawled under the sheets, and spent the next two weeks crying,” he said. “And I was a little bit pleasantly surprised when I realized that I wasn’t built like that, because I thought, for sure, that was gonna be me.” The actor said he was keen to inspire other people, noting, “It’s imperative that I share my journey with as many people as I can because I don’t feel like my life is about me anymore.” There is currently no cure for ALS, which causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain.

They’re making a sequel to ‘The Family Stone’

Christmas is coming early for those who love spending the holidays with the Stone family.

Thomas Bezucha, the writer-director behind the 2005 perennial yuletide favorite “The Family Stone,” is working on a sequel to the movie, he tells CNN.

Bezucha shared the news during an interview about working with the late Diane Keaton, who played matriarch Sybil Stone in the original movie.

The filmmaker said that he had been thinking about and working on the script for a followup to “The Family Stone” – which follows Sybil’s family at Christmas as they grapple with the news that she is terminally ill – when he learned of Keaton’s untimely death last month at the age of 79.

‘Family Stone’ Director Is Writing a Sequel After Diane Keaton’s Death: I Want to ‘Honor Her Even More’

Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the 2005 dramedy “The Family Stone,” is working on a sequel to the contemporary holiday classic. He told CNN that he had already been thinking about revisiting the fictional kin before the death of Diane Keaton, who died in October at the age of 79. Keaton’s character, the Stone family’s matriarch Sybil, dies after a terminal illness at the end of the original film.

“I’ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,” Bezucha said during a CNN interview. “Mentally, I’ve been spending time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a while already.”

A Sequel to The Family Stone Without Diane Keaton? I’m Already Crying…But I’m Also Seated

I don’t have many Christmas or Hanukkah traditions (beyond getting manically into holiday decor, melting a candy cane into my coffee while I wrap presents, and listening to Kacey Musgraves’s A Very Kacey Christmas album, that is), but one favorite activity involves going over to my best friend’s house for our annual Yuletide sleepover, changing into my plaid flannel Lanz nightgown, and firing up The Family Stone. Even though we rewatch the Thomas Bezucha-directed film quite literally every year, it somehow never gets old—so you can imagine my delight when I learned that we could soon be getting a sequel.
