‘I thought my life was over’: Melbourne woman’s $500k retirement fund drained

Exclusive: Thousands of Australians are potentially unaware their retirement savings have been wiped out, with victims of the First Guardian and Master Shield twin collapse issuing a warning about postcode hotspots for lost money.

Victoria ranks as one of the three hardest-hit states in the $1.1 billion crisis.

Data released by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) listed four Melbourne postcodes as among the ten most impacted areas.

ASIC found the suburbs of Cranbourne, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne North, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Truganina and Craigieburn have the highest concentration of victims.

Fellow investor and advocate Melinda Kee said many investors “still don’t even know they’ve been affected”.

The Compensation Scheme of Last Resort (CSLR), which is designed to help victims of financial misconduct get compensated, is short of funds because of recent high-profile superannuation disasters.

The CSLR currently only has about $20 million from levies the industry corporate watchdog ASIC has raised, but needs an additional $170 million to meet the shortfall.

Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino is looking to broaden the scope of the levies and who in the industry must pay them.

A government scheme that provides compensation for victims of financial misconduct, including Australians who lost their retirement savings in the First Guardian and Shield super disasters, faces a funding shortfall of $170 million.

Tom Holland Thought Christopher Nolan Didn't Like His 'Odyssey' Performance

Tom Holland‘s role in Christopher Nolan‘s Imax-shot The Odyssey presented a learning curve for the young actor.

With his role as Telemachus in the epic blockbuster, premiering July 17, the actor admitted he “thought I was totally sh*tting the bed” during his first day on set with the director, who had to cut every three minutes due to the Imax technology.

“Working with the Imax cameras for the first time is an experience,” he told Fandango. “It is unlike anything I have ever seen before, and I didn’t know that it only ran for three minutes. So, I remember you would continue cutting, and I was with Jon [Bernthal] like, ‘Why does he keep cutting? Why does he keep doing that?'”

Tom Holland Thought Christopher Nolan Hated His 'Odyssey' Performance

Tom Holland recently told Fandango that he thought director Christopher Nolan hated his performance on his first day filming “The Odyssey” because he kept calling cut. In reality, Nolan’s cuts were due to the limitations of the Imax cameras he was using.

“Working with the Imax cameras for the first time is an experience,” Holland explained. “It is unlike anything I have ever seen before, and I didn’t know that it only ran for three minutes. So, I remember you would continue cutting, and I was with Jon [Bernthal], like, ‘Why does he keep cutting? Why does he keep doing that?’”

‘I thought it was crazy’: Inside the Sydney boarding school experience

Daniel Ritchie’s day as a boarding school student began just before 7am. After a shower, roll call was at 7.15am followed by breakfast. There was time to give his room a quick clean before phones were unlocked, giving students about 20 minutes to scroll and text. “You get a bit of phone time, talk to your parents, whatever, and then you put them back,” Ritchie said. Lessons ran from 8.20am to 2.50pm. Then, it was sports training or free time.

Despite the rising costs, the number of NSW students in boarding schools over the past five years has remained relatively stable.
