    Flyers soar through Lightning

We'll keep you updated on special events, the 25/26 season, players, and basketball news.

Maddy Rocci has mixed style with substance to boost the Southside Melbourne Flyers' finals push as they downed the Adelaide Lightning 85-72.

Rocci worked the floor at the Victorian State Basketball Centre on Sunday, grabbing another double-double as she contributed 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

The point guard, who also concedes the highest average of turnovers in the league (5.42), only coughed up a season-low two.

Adelaide kept in touch with the hosts for the first 30 minutes and captain Steph Talbot looked to have provided the spark for a Lightning run when she scored from well behind the halfway line on the three-quarter time buzzer.

Opals stars help Flyers shake off Lightning

A PAIR of Australian Opals were the difference in Southside Melbourne Flyers’ 13-point win over Adelaide Lightning, kicking away to a nice 85-72 victory after a tight first three quarters. Flyers co-captains Cayla George and Maddison Rocci – who were announced in the national squad to head to Turkey earlier this month – dug deep to produce strong performances in the Round 11 WNBL win.

After Sydney Flamers’ upset win over the UC Capitals the day before, both the fifth placed Flyers and sixth placed Lightning suddenly saw the door ajar for that crucial fourth place in the WNBL Finals race so the stakes were higher than normal. The two teams were also coming in off the back of losses in Round 10 with the Flyers losing at home to the Bendigo Spirit, while the Lightning also lost to the Spirit on the road, before being thrashed by the Lynx at home on December 21.

Teen talent Manuela Puoch has given the Southside Melbourne Flyers the "spark" they needed to close within one game of the fourth and final playoff spot after an 85-72 win over the Adelaide Lightning at the Victoria State Basketball Centre.

The 19-year-old had 15 points off the bench, including 2-from-4 from the three-point line, and was the catalyst for a third-quarter run which allowed the Flyers to pull away from the visitors.

Thunderstorms are forecast from the Gulf Country through to Queensland's south-east. The most severe weather will likely be in the Maranoa, Warrego and Southern Downs.

Coastal and south-east areas will see showers and cooler conditions later in the weekend.

Storms are expected across a large part of inland Queensland today, with the Darling Downs region set to cop another weekend of severe weather. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said unsettled weather across the state was due to a cold front and surface trough combining.

Wild weather brings storms, frost and fire

Australians have woken up to teeth-chattering lows on Wednesday morning, with several parts of the country plunging to 0C.

Canberra still felt like -2C at 7am despite having warmed up a degree after dropping to 0C in the early hours of the morning.

While Sydneysiders escaped single-digit temperatures, hitting a minimum of 12C, those in western parts of NSW, like Orange and Griffith, were greeted with icy lows of 1C and 4C, respectively.

“You might have thought those temperatures were behind us for winter, but it (is) an icy, frosty start for the Central and Southern Tablelands, the Snowy Mountains and around the ACT,” meteorologist Angus Hines said. “After the cool morning, the good news is a fine, sunny and settled day with barely a puff of wind.

Home>Weather News>Melbourne shivers through coldest November day in 80 years

Parts of southern and eastern Victoria have endured their coldest and wettest November days in decades, with Melbourne itself measuring its equal-coldest November 24-hour maximum since 1945.

The cool conditions across Victoria were associated with brisk southerly winds ushering in a cold airmass and the persistence of cloud and rain. Despite winds blowing across the bay, with water temperatures of around 15ºC, the mercury in Melbourne failed to rise above a bone-rattling 12.7ºC across the city – about 8-9ºC below average. The maximum was achieved right before 9am on Sunday, November 9th, with daytime temperatures trending cooler than nighttime temperatures as seen below. When adding in the wind chill factor, temperatures would have felt as cold as 5-6ºC at times during the day, which is more winter-like than spring-like.

Today, this city felt 25 degrees. Tomorrow, it'll feel like 5
