The Central West has been hit by a record-breaking earthquake on Tuesday night, with confirmation the tremor that rocked south of Orange was a monster 4.5 magnitude quake.
Geoscience Australia confirmed the earthquake, which was placed just south of Orange. The area, which lies near Mount Canobolas, has previously been described as a "cluster" location of seismic activity.
There were a number of reports of the earthquake being felt across the region, with some saying the earthquake shook their house.

Large magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocks NSW
The earthquake struck near Cadia, about 260km west of Sydney, at 8.19pm.
The epicentre was about 26km from nearby Orange and hit at a depth of 5km, Geoscience Australia reported.
A 4.5 magnitude shake is considered to be a light earthquake and isn't likely to cause structural damage.
The news comes a little over a month after an earthquake hit Boorowa, 159km south of Cadia.
Geoscience Australia said the earthquake was 'felt widely across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory'.
