Why police took 20 hours to identify Oallen 'body' in suitcase as lifelike doll

A forensic expert says the Oallen case highlights why investigators must resist disturbing suspected human remains. (ABC News.)

Police took the suitcase found at Oallen to a mortuary for examination rather than risk destroying fragile evidence at a potential homicide scene.

Forensic expert Xanthe Weston says the 20-hour time frame was not extraordinary and highly realistic dolls can be mistaken for human remains

The more than 20 hours it took to establish suspected human remains found in a suitcase near Goulburn were actually a life-like doll highlights the painstaking process required to preserve a potential crime scene, according to a forensic expert.

Police have confirmed what was thought to have been a body found stuffed in a suitcase left in remote NSW bushland was in fact a “lifelike” doll.

Police were called to the grisly discovery in Oallen, about 60 kilometres south of Goulburn, at 12.50pm on Sunday.

'Body in suitcase' found in Australia turns out to be lifelike doll

Australian police called in to investigate a body found in a suitcase have concluded that the "victim" was in fact a lifelike doll.

The suitcase was discovered by two men on the side of a road near the small village of Oallen, about 230km (143 miles) south-west of Sydney.

On Monday, police announced a murder investigation, sparking intense interest in the case but backtracked hours later, saying forensic testing had proved the contents were not human.

The contents in the suitcase were "mistaken for a human originally, so they are very realistic in terms of looking like human remains," said Supt Linda Bradbury from the Hume Police District.

‘I took that personally’: Selfish act as ex-NRL stars’ blockbuster fight confirmed

Nelson Asofa-Solomona and George Burgess have ignited what may be the greatest stink in Magic Round history after signing off on a heavyweight slobberknocker to determine Australia’s crossover king.

As first revealed by Fox Sports Australia in January, the longtime NRL enforcers — and premiership heroes — are set to throw down in an anticipated crossover bout to determine who takes the crown that was for so long held by NSW Origin great Paul Gallen.

‘Big Nasty’ vs. Burgess confirmed as tensions escalate

Tensions between former NRL rivals have escalated so dramatically that four security personnel were needed to keep them apart at their boxing announcement.

Boxing promoter No Limit was forced to hire four burly security personnel to keep former NRL rivals Nelson Asofa-Solomona and George Burgess separated during their face-off outside Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

The beefed up security measures come as the tension between the pair hit overdrive last week ahead of the official announcement of their heavyweight boxing match in June.

They have been trading insults online and in the media since January, with former Rabbitohs premiership winner Burgess escalating it last week, questioning Asofa-Solomona’s departure from the Melbourne Storm last year.

Asofa-solomona Vs Burgess Boxing set for Brisbane crossover showdown June 24

Nelson Asofa-Solomona and George Burgess have agreed to settle a months-long feud in the ring, with the heavyweight crossover bout set for June 24 at Brisbane’s Pat Rafter Arena.

The fight will sit on the undercard for Liam Paro’s meeting with Lewis Crocker, adding a second headline attraction to a Magic Round weekend that has already pulled the two men into the same city after weeks of public build-up.

For Asofa-Solomona, the matchup is the latest step in a hard break from rugby league. He walked away from an $800,000-a-year Melbourne Storm contract to chase boxing, and he has made clear that the rivalry with Burgess has been part of the appeal. After Burgess confronted him immediately following his professional debut win over Jeremy Latimore in January, then turned up ringside again when he stopped Jarrod Wallace in April, Asofa-Solomona said the issue had become personal.

David Byrne Took Us Home Where 'Life During Wartime' Is Bleak, But Coachella Set Offered Hope

One thing that is great about music is its ability to uplift, even when — especially when — shit is bleak. Renaissance man David Byrne doesn’t shy away from the bad in the world; in fact, his songs often meditate on life’s complexities and the conflicting emotions they bring.  At Coachella, he and his untethered musicians and dancers marked those highs and lows not to avoid or escape it, but in reveling in our shared humanity — flaws and all — find some hope.

After a bit of a late start, Byrne and Co. transported those at the Outdoor Theatre out of the desert and into an immersive, theatrical world where a whole lot of dancing, hope, and common ground amid life’s uncertainties were found. His recent concert runs are an elaborate, perfectly choreographed experience, as those who might’ve caught his first time at Coachella in 2018 or any of his tour run at the time in support of American Utopia know.

At 73, David Byrne Outpaces Artists Less Than Half His Age at Coachella

Anyone who has caught footage of David Byrne’s recent concerts or late-night performances is well aware that the Talking Heads co-founder is still crushing it. With production that balances singing and choreography and is backed by a group of singer-dancers, the shows still feel loose despite demanding a degree of precision.

Indeed, Coachella 2026 attendees who witnessed the 73-year-old artist’s set live or via YouTube on Saturday, April 11th, were treated to one of the best performances of the Indio, California, festival thus far. Exuding joy while working in social commentary, Byrne mixed in some songs from his new album, Who Is the Sky?, with Talking Heads classics.

David Byrne Brings Poignant Reflection and Hope to Coachella

The Talking Heads frontman's theatrical performance blended bleak themes with uplifting messages of love and resistance.

David Byrne's Coachella set on Saturday was a powerful and immersive experience that reflected on life's complexities and uncertainties, while also finding hope and shared humanity through music. The musician performed a mix of solo material and Talking Heads classics, with visuals that touched on social issues like the resistance against ICE. Byrne's theatrical production and thoughtful lyrics resonated with the audience, who sang along enthusiastically to favorites like 'Psycho Killer' and 'Once in a Lifetime'.

Byrne's performance at Coachella underscored his ability to grapple with difficult themes in his music, while also offering a sense of uplift and community. As a respected artist and thinker, Byrne's perspective on the state of the world and the role of love and kindness as a form of resistance resonated with festival-goers and highlighted music's power to bring people together during challenging times.

Bill Gates 'took responsibility' over Epstein ties in staff meeting, foundation says

Bill Gates "took responsibility for his actions" and addressed his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a meeting with staff from his charitable foundation, the organisation said.

"Bill spoke candidly, addressing several questions in detail," the Gates Foundation said in a statement.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Gates apologised to staff, said he had two affairs with Russian women which Epstein later found out about, and in relation to the late financier said: "I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit."

Gates has come under renewed scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein following the release of files by the US Department of Justice in January.
