Clippers Linked to Shocking Kawhi Leonard Trade With East Contender

The Los Angeles Clippers are facing an uncertain future when it comes to superstar forward Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard has been facing some drama off the court due to an NBA investigation into his contract. However, the Clippers made some moves ahead of the trade deadline this year that could signal a “rebuild” of sorts.

Before the deadline, Los Angeles traded superstar guard James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After that move was made, the Clippers also shipped star big man Ivica Zubac out of town to the Indiana Pacers.

In return, Los Angeles received younger talents like Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin. There were also draft picks included in those packages as well.

The LA Clippers have traded 11-time All-Star guard James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for guard Darius Garland and a second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

Harden effectively had veto power over any trade because of the nature of his contract. He worked through his exit with the Clippers (23-26) over the past few days, resulting in an outcome both sides were happy with. It's a win-now championship opportunity for Harden, who is playing at a high level at age 36, and the Clippers get a two-time All-Star in Garland who, at age 26, can help now and in the future.

NBA: James Harden to join Cleveland Cavaliers as part of Darius Garland trade with LA Clippers

James Harden averages 25.4 points per game for the Los Angeles Clippers this season

James Harden is set to join the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Clippers, with Darius Garland moving in the opposite direction after the sides agreed a trade.

Harden, 36, is an 11-time NBA All-Star and regarded as one of the greatest guards in history, but he has never won an NBA title.

Although the deal is yet to be confirmed by the NBA, Harden said the opportunity to win a first championship was key in deciding to move.

The Cavaliers are fifth in the Eastern Conference in their pursuit of a play-off spot, while the Clippers are ninth in the West.

Bobby Marks uses the NBA Trade Machine to break down how the Warriors and Bucks could match up on a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. (1:36)

With three days to go before the NBA trade deadline, the market for Giannis Antetokounmpo has started to progress as the Milwaukee Bucks have submitted counteroffers to teams aggressively seeking a deal for the two-time MVP, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

Having been resistant to the idea of trading Antetokounmpo throughout his career in Milwaukee, the Bucks have now shifted to actively engaging with a few teams concerning a potential league-altering trade.

Warriors' Plan B for NBA trade deadline looms over Giannis Antetokounmpo pursuit

NBA Trade Deadline Week this year started with the surprise that James Harden again wants to be on a different team and turned to shock on Tuesday morning when the 19-win Memphis Grizzlies and 15-win Utah Jazz got together for a blockbuster trade.

The Grizzlies' rebuild is underway, but Ja Morant isn’t the first domino to fall. Jaren Jackson Jr. is being traded from the Grizzlies to the Jazz in a deal that involves eight players and three first-round picks being sent to Utah, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, citing sources.

Stunning is an appropriate word for the move. Jackson, a big fish, is off the board and he’s joining a team nobody envisioned. The biggest fish remains on the market with the unknown if he’s staying in the water until the summer or about to jump ship.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The LA Clippers and guard James Harden are working through whether the sides can find a deal by Thursday's NBA trade deadline, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the teams expressing serious interest in Harden, sources told Charania.

The 36-year-old Harden has veto power over any trade because he's technically only under contract for this season. The second year of the two-year, $81.5 million deal he agreed to this past offseason is a player option, which isn't fully guaranteed.

Clippers, Cavs Reportedly Discussing Harden/Garland Trade

The Clippers and Cavaliers have had advanced talks about a blockbuster trade that would send James Harden to Cleveland and Darius Garland to Los Angeles, sources tell Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

Harden, a 6’5″ guard, missed his second straight game on Monday due to personal reasons. Head coach Tyronn Lue said the former league MVP was at his home in Phoenix, but he didn’t elaborate further (Twitter link via Joey Linn).

Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports also hears the Cavaliers are trying to acquire Harden, citing league sources who say Cleveland has been interested in the 36-year-old since December, when L.A. was off to a miserable start.

Report: Cleveland Cavaliers Could Trade for 11-Time All-Star

According to NBA insider Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, the Cleveland Cavaliers could trade for an 11-time All-Star.

Mannix reports that the Cavaliers could trade Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.

Garland is making $39.4 million this season, while Harden is making 39.2 million. The 2018 MVP with the Houston Rockets has a player option worth $42.3 million for next season.

Harden and the Clippers are working through whether the sides can find a deal by Thursday's NBA trade deadline, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN. Harden has been with the Clippers since 2023.

Meanwhile, Garland has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavaliers. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks are focal point as trade deadline nears

Suitors aplenty may be lining up deals for Milwaukee's superstar with the Feb. 5 trade deadline quickly approaching.

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo looms as a central figure to watch as the Feb. 5 trade deadline nears.

As the NBA trade deadline loomed last year, a star player reacted to the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks by saying the following:

“It’s a business. You have to understand this. Nobody’s safe. Nobody’s safe.”

This season’s deadline is fast approaching, now less than a week away, and it’s Antetokounmpo who is the epicenter of the NBA trade universe this time. Speculation about his future — will the Bucks trade him or not? — will continue until he either gets moved or until the deadline hits Thursday afternoon. And if he doesn’t get moved now, the rumors will almost certainly resume in June around the draft and the start of free agency.

How Blazers can shake up Giannis trade sweepstakes, much to the delight of Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks have been backed into a corner when it comes to the inevitable Giannis Antetokounmpo trade all season. Had they acted sooner, they likely would have received a historic haul for their two-time MVP. Asset-rich teams like the Spurs and Rockets might have been interested last summer. They've since moved on, and that has left the Bucks to sift through lesser offers.

Trading Antetokounmpo for, say, Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges would do little for Milwaukee's long-term outlook. Golden State's draft picks are potentially valuable, but ultimately a mystery box. Kel'El Ware is a promising young big. You'd expect someone with a clearer path to stardom to be the centerpiece of an Antetokounmpo package. But what could the Bucks do? Antetokounmpo is set for 2027 free agency. They had no leverage. They could trade him for 50 cents on the dollar or let him leave for nothing.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading De'Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis, sources told ESPN.

The three-team deal includes the Chicago Bulls acquiring Kings forward Dario Saric and two future second-round picks, sources said.

The Cavaliers turn Hunter's salary slot into depth at point guard with Schroder and a top defender on the market with Ellis. The Cavaliers also save about $50 million in salary and luxury tax bills this season because of the transaction and drop their tax bill from $164 million to $120 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired guards Keon Ellis and Dennis Schröder from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for De'Andre Hunter, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.

Hunter, 28, was dealt to the Cavaliers before last season's NBA trade deadline from the Atlanta Hawks for a package that included Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two swaps. However, he fell out of head coach Kenny Atkinson's rotation in recent weeks.

Cavs and Lakers discussing De’Andre Hunter trade framework with third team involvement

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs appear to be moving closer to a significant trade, with De’Andre Hunter potentially headed to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal that would address both basketball fit and financial flexibility for the wine and gold.

On the latest Wine and Gold Talk podcast, cleveland.com beat reporter Chris Fedor dropped a bombshell regarding discussions between the two teams: “My sources tell me that the Cavs and the Lakers have discussed a general framework surrounding De’Andre Hunter for Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht and then bringing in a third team.”

This potential trade represents much more than a simple player swap. For Cleveland, it addresses multiple needs simultaneously – most importantly, providing crucial financial breathing room for a team currently squeezed by the NBA’s punitive second apron tax penalties.

NBA Mock Trade: Aggressive New York Knicks Strike Deal For Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks have been linked to trades throughout their season thus far dating back to the offseason, as rumors continue to swirl around two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Questions have been raised regarding his future with the team amid a tough start for the club, posting a 16-21 record to this point of the season.

Antetokounmpo, who’s missed time throughout the year thus far, has averaged 29.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists over 23 games, shooting 64.5% from the field. Trade rumors have persisted amid the team’s slow start, linking the Bucks forward to a myriad of teams throughout the NBA.

Earlier this week, Antetokounmpo insisted that he had no intention of demanding a trade. “That’s not in my nature,” he told The Athletic following the team’s loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. But that may not deter teams from working to trade for the future Hall of Famer. Monitoring teams around the league, the New York Knicks emerge as one of my top picks to execute a deal for Antetokounmpo. Here’s a mock trade that sees the superstar big man sent to the Big Apple:

“That’s what I think our plan is, yes … I talk to Leon …

Dolan was answering a question from the hosts about the Knicks and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He said he wasn’t aware of any trade talks between the Knicks and Bucks in the offseason. Later in the interview, he reiterated that he didn’t see the Knicks making any big changes before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. “That’s what I think our plan is, yes … I talk to Leon every day and look, nothing is impossible; I won’t rule anything out, but who do you want to lose (in a trade)?” Dolan said. “You don’t get something without giving something. Who do you want to lose?”

A Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Would Ruin The Knicks Title Hopes

With the NBA trade deadline approaching on February 5th, one name that has slowly faded from trade conversations is Giannis Antetokounmpo. Back in the preseason, Giannis was heavily rumored in potential blockbuster deals, including one that would send him to the New York Knicks.

Antetokounmpo has since confirmed his commitment to Milwaukee, stating that he would never demand a trade. Even so, the idea of Giannis landing in New York once felt very realistic, and it’s a scenario that still sparks debate.

If Giannis were traded to the Knicks, most fans immediately picture a dominant duo featuring Jalen Brunson and Antetokounmpo. However, what many people overlook is how a move like this could actually hurt the Knicks rather than help them.

Cubs land Cabrera, trade top prospect to Marlins

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The Cubs on Wednesday acquired pitcher Edward Cabrera in a trade with the Marlins that sent top outfield prospect Owen Caissie and two other hitting prospects to Miami.

The Cubs also dealt away infield prospects Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon in exchange for Cabrera, a popular trade target for multiple contenders who will improve a Chicago rotation that includes veterans Matthew Boyd, Jameson Taillon and Shota Imanaga.

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said last month that the organization was "in the market" to acquire pitching help — in the rotation and in the bullpen. Cabrera's swing-and-miss ability is attractive to a Cubs organization that lacks that attribute in its rotation.

The dynamics of the National League Central continue to shift as the St. Louis Cardinals continue their rebuild of their minor league system with many unknowns on their major league roster while the Chicago Cubs made a big trade for Miami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera.

I first saw the news of this Chicago Cubs acquisition shared by Jeff Passan on X.

MLB Trade Rumors says the other minor leaguers going from the Cubs to the Marlins in this deal along with outfield prospect Owen Caissie are Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon. The trade for Edward Cabrera can be added to a list of moves made this offseason by the Cubs including trades for pitchers Ryan Pressley from the Astros and Matt Festa from the Rangers. Former Cardinal Carson Kelly also signed a two-year deal with the Cubs. Oh, and the Chicago Cubs have also reportedly been in touch with Bo Bichette, too. I checked the poll that MLB Trade Rumors shared regarding Bichette and the Cubs are believed to be the 4th most likely landing spot behind the Blue Jays, Dodgers and Phillies according to their crowd.

Yankees Unable to Land Edward Cabrera, Team Was "Never Close"

It has been a swing-and-miss offseason for the New York Yankees. They have expressed interest in multiple free agents, but have not landed many. The only significant players signed by New York have been the re-signings of Amed Rosario, Paul Blackburn, Ryan Yarbrough, and Trent Grisham. With that, the Yankees have been hoping to land a big-name starting pitcher via trade, while also being involved in other free agent talks.

One pitcher on their radar was Edward Cabrera of the Miami Marlins. However, New York is likely to miss out on the right-hander after the Chicago Cubs are reportedly extremely close to acquiring him.

The ‘worst trade ever’ made them an NFL laughing stock. Now they could win it all

Just two years ago, the Denver Broncos were the laughing stock of the NFL.

Now, they’re one win away from securing the No.1 seed in the AFC and a real shot at Super Bowl glory.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for the organisation guilty of the worst trade in NFL history – signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson “for a King’s ransom” in 2022.

Wilson failed to live up to his Seattle hype in his first two years in Denver, and was unceremoniously dumped in a move that saw the Broncos eat $85 million in dead cap space across 2024 and 2025.

Broncos clinch West, ending Chiefs' 9-year reign

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos won their first AFC West title in a decade Saturday when the Houston Texans beat the Los Angeles Chargers 20-16.

That means the Broncos will host their first playoff game since January 2016. They can wrap up the AFC's No. 1 seed as early as Sunday, if the Patriots, Jaguars and Bills all lose or tie their Week 17 games.

The Broncos' division title ended a nine-year stretch by the Kansas City Chiefs (6-10), whose run of seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances ended during an injury-riddled season that included a serious knee injury to Patrick Mahomes.

Broncos clinch AFC West, Texans clinch playoff berth with Houston's win over Chargers

The Houston Texans essentially handed the Chargers two losses on Saturday.

By defeating Los Angeles, 20-16, Houston simultaneously clinched a spot in the playoffs and allowed the Denver Broncos to clinch an AFC West title, ensuring the Bolts will be a wild-card team.

Houston is no stranger to earning a postseason triumph against L.A., having beaten the Chargers last season in the AFC Wild Card Round. With another win in a playoff-like atmosphere, DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud notched their third postseason berth in three seasons as a head coach-quarterback duo.

It's been Ryans' defense that's been the lynchpin for the Texans' success and in-season comeback.
