    The US senator Sheldon Whitehouse has sent a letter to the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts detailing allegations from whistleblowers that some renovations were “rushed” and federal contracting laws “were ignored” to get the center ready for events, including for Donald Trump to receive the Fifa “peace prize” during the World Cup draw he hosted there in December.

    “I have received allegations that the Kennedy Center has conducted rushed renovation and maintenance work with disregard to its commitments to Congress and the federal contracting standards the Center has long applied to its own procurements,” the Rhode Island Democrat wrote in the letter dated Thursday.

    A United States senator has published a whistleblower complaint alleging that allies of President Donald Trump mismanaged renovations at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in order to please the president’s “aesthetic whims”.

    On Saturday, Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island released a letter addressed to the Kennedy Center’s leadership, conveying the accusations.

    They include claims that the Kennedy Center, under Trump, bypassed standard procedures for awarding government contracts and approved unnecessary — or faulty — projects.

    “These are not isolated lapses but a single pattern that runs counter to everything the Center has told Congress it would do with the public’s money,” Whitehouse wrote.

    A Democratic senator on Saturday alleged that whistleblowers have detailed several problems stemming from rushed or improper reconstruction of the Kennedy Center, adding a new layer to the travails of the arts complex as President Donald Trump tried to seize control of it and its name.

    Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island said in a release on Saturday that he had received a whistleblower disclosure from the Government Accountability Project, a nonprofit whistleblower protection group, alleging that "the Center rushed a series of renovations driven by the President's aesthetic whims and his desire to star in a series of televised events in December."

    World Cup’s credibility in question after Fifa volte face following call from Donald Trump

    After four weeks of dazzling action on the pitch, it may be an off-field scandal that comes to define this summer’s World Cup. Fifa’s decision to allow America’s star striker, Folarin Balogun, to play in a last-16 match against Belgium, despite having been sent off in the previous game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, is in clear breach of the association’s own rules. The move has been greeted with outrage pretty much across the board.

    Extraordinarily, Fifa, international football’s governing body, has not only so far declined to give any detailed reasoning for its decision to suspend what would be a standard one game ban following Balogun red card. The reversal appears to result from direct pressure from the White House. Media reports suggest that Donald Trump made three calls to Fifa, starting from Wednesday, to ensure that the red card was overturned. The White House has said that the call was made to understand why Balogun was sent off and the reason for the suspension.

In a 5-4 opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court upheld a lower court’s decision to keep Cook in her role while her case proceeds on whether she was terminated “for cause.”

    The US president took to Truth Social after an Iranian drone attack on a cargo ship earlier this week. 

    The United States has carried out strikes against Iran, with the US Central Command saying American aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar sites.

    Bahrain condemns Iranian drone attack after overnight US strikes

    No immediate reports of damage after Bahrain hit by ‘number of drones’ as ship in strait of Hormuz also targeted

    Bahrain said it was attacked by Iran with drones on Saturday, apparently in response to overnight US strikes on Iran. A ship in the strait of Hormuz was also attacked.

    Bahrain’s foreign ministry said a “number of drones” were launched at the country, though there were no immediate reports of damage. It condemned the attack and described it as a “flagrant threat to the security of citizens and residents”.

    No damage or casualties were reported in the attack on a tanker in the strait of Hormuz. No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but Iran was suspected to be behind it.

    Washington/Dubai: The US military attacked Iran in response to an Iranian drone strike on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, with each country accusing the other of violating terms of a ceasefire agreed on last week.

    US Central Command said aircraft struck missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites on Saturday, later publishing a grainy black-and-white video of an explosion labelled “unclassified.” A US official reported the operation had concluded.

    Iran said a projectile struck the area around a pier in Sirik in southern Iran, and that Iranian naval forces responded by striking US military targets in the region. Tehran did not provide details about what may have been hit.

    Dubai/Washington: US President Donald Trump has vowed to hit Iran “very hard tonight” and threatened to soon take control of its oil and gas infrastructure and markets after the two sides traded air attacks on Thursday for a second straight day.

    “At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela,” Trump said on Truth Social.

    US judge orders removal of Trump name from Kennedy Center

    A US judge has ordered the removal of President Donald Trump's name from the title of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. 

    The Washington venue cannot be renamed without congressional approval, the judge ruled on Friday.

    Mr Trump said on social media he would work with Congress on transferring ownership of the centre, though it was not immediately clear how the directive would be carried out.
