Gold Coast brewery enters administration for second time

One of the Gold Coast's best-known craft breweries has entered voluntary administration for the second time in two years after failing to secure a buyer.

One of the Gold Coast's best-known craft breweries has entered voluntary administration for the second time in two years after a sale process failed to attract a buyer.

Worrells partners Chris Cook and James Robba were appointed administrators to Black Hops Craft and Green Hops Brewing on Tuesday.

Speaking on the administration, Black Hops director Luke McCormack said challenges facing the independent brewing sector challenges mounted during the cost of living crisis.

“Unfortunately, the headwinds affecting the Australian independent brewing sector have never been stronger,” he said in a statement.

RBA now twice as likely to hike interest rate as US-Iran war drives fuel prices higher

Experts warn global energy market at a ‘critical juncture’ with escalating Middle East crisis expected to further drag on a slowing Australian economy

The likelihood of a Reserve Bank interest rate hike has doubled, according to market forecasts, as the escalating Middle East crisis once again drives fuel prices higher amid dwindling global oil reserves.

The total breakdown in the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran has sent the international Brent crude benchmark surging by 23% over the past two weeks and back within reach of $US90 a barrel.

The Iran war’s big oil mystery: No one seems to want it

Two dominant forces balance the global oil market: supply and demand. The Iran war has broken both — one perhaps beyond repair.

Supply remains a complete mess. A historic crude glut turned into the worst-ever supply shock before another flood of oil entered the market in June. Now, an intensifying war has again closed off significant access to Persian Gulf oil, reinjecting chaos into the market.

The world has adapted to the supply shock during five months of war, learning how to cope without using as much oil as it had before the conflict. Hundreds of millions of barrels of oil finally escaped the Strait of Hormuz last month, only to find few willing buyers. Some Middle Eastern crude had to be heavily discounted before it found any takers.

Why Is the Ball Is Dropping Twice on New Year's Eve?

Normally, every year, New Yorkers will gather in Times Square on New Year's Eve to watch the Constellation Ball drop from the iconic One Times Square building. This celebratory moment signifies the start of a new year.

However, on Jan. 1, New Yorkers might be surprised to see that there'll be two ball drops instead of one.

In honor of the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary of when the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Times Square Alliance — a group that organizes the annual ball drop — decided it would be best to include a second one in the night.

The Alliance has also been working with America250, a nonpartisan body that Congress established in 2016 for the upcoming anniversary, to put the whole event together.

What's new about the 2026 NYE ball in Times Square

After midnight strikes, revelers ringing in 2026 at Times Square will get a second treat as red, white and blue confetti rain down to usher in America's 250th anniversary.

The nonpartisan organization America250 is teaming up with One Times Square to kick off the semiquincentennial celebration in 2026, which will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

"What better way to ring in 2026 with the iconic global countdown in Times Square," Rosie Rios, the chair of America250, said in an interview that aired on "Good Morning America" Friday.

Along with the special confetti, which will kick off at about 12:04 a.m. ET, the iconic Times Square ball will feature a special design and a finale will highlight a dynamic pyro display set to a rendition of “America the Beautiful” by the late Ray Charles.

Times Square to feature patriotic crystal ball for New Year's Eve, kicking off U.S.' 250th birthday

After the crystal ball drops on New Year’s Eve in New York City, it will rise again, sparkling in red, white and blue to usher in 2026 and kick off months of celebrations for the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.

The patriotic touches at this year’s Times Square gathering, including a second confetti drop, will offer an early glimpse of what’s ahead: hundreds of events and programs, big and small, planned nationwide to mark the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

“I’m telling you right now, whatever you’re imagining, it’s going to be much more than that,” said America250 Chair Rosie Rios, who oversees the bipartisan commission created by Congress in 2016 to organize the semiquincentennial anniversary. “It’s going to be one for the ages, the most inspirational celebration this country and maybe the world has ever seen.”
