The unique way Olivia Colman settled Aud Mason-Hyde’s on-set nerves

Actor Aud Mason-Hyde is no stranger to the film industry, (director Sophie Hyde and cinematographer/editor Bryan Mason are their parents, and they have acted in several Australian films), but before shooting their latest – their biggest to date – there were some serious nerves.

In Jimpa, they star alongside some big-hitters: Oscar winner Olivia Colman and stage and screen legend John Lithgow.

“I was shitting myself,” Mason-Hyde says when we talk on Zoom from Sydney where they’re performing in Virginia Gay’s theatre production Mama does Derby.

“Huge names – I was totally pissing my pants! Olivia came to Adelaide to do a week of rehearsal and I remember just pacing around the rehearsal room like, ‘Oh my god, she’s about to walk in. What am I gonna say? It’s Olivia Colman! Am I wearing the right thing? Am I a good enough actor to be here?’ Total imposter syndrome and all this … internal monologue.”

Sophie Hyde is one of Australia’s most successful directors, with her films winning awards at the prestigious Sundance and Berlin festivals.

In her latest film Jimpa, Hyde turns the spotlight on her unconventional family, casting her own child in the film and Olivia Colman as a character loosely based on herself.

Hyde’s film is helping release her family from the secrets of the past.

    Movie of the Month: JIMPA

From acclaimed director Sophie Hyde (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), JIMPA is an uplifting multi-generational family story starring award-winning favourites Olivia Colman and John Lithgow, and Australian actors Aud Mason-Hyde, Daniel Henshall, Kate Box, Eamon Farren and Deborah Kennedy.

Hannah (Colman) travels to vibrant Amsterdam with her teen, Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde), to reconnect with her politically-engaged, gay father—affectionately known as “Jimpa” (Lithgow). Frances is besotted with Jimpa and announces that they wish to stay with him for a year – to Hannah’s apprehension. Jimpa is fiercely independent, so it is a shock when his declining health is revealed, upending Frances’ plans and bringing Hannah’s sister in from the UK. As the siblings negotiate what happens next, Hannah must confront her past and the stories she has told about her family.

OKC Thunder Announce Unique Starting Five, Hartenstein Goes to Bench

The Oklahoma City Thunder have a grueling stretch coming up. The team is forced to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight which tips off a stretch of battling the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks. There are few roll over options on that list, perhaps just one, with the Bucks. All while being short handed.

Oklahoma City is without All-NBA swingman Jalen Williams, defensive-ace Alex Caruso and top bench bucket getter Ajay Mitchell as the Thunder do get starting big man Isaiah Hartenstein and defensive ace Cason Wallace back into the fold for Mark Daigneault's club.

Justin Martinez: Asked Mark Daigneault about the impact of getting Isaiah Hartenstein back tonight: "It's the point-of-attack defense. It's the pick-and-roll defense. It's what he does for our rebounding. He's an elite offensive rebounder, an elite screener, a great pocket passer and an above-the-rim finisher on the rolls. He obviously brings a lot of stuff to the table for us and kind of expands our optionality as a team, so we welcome him back. We're certainly thrilled to have him back."

Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) out again Friday

Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) will be out again for Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers. (NBA Injury Report)

As expected, Hartenstein will continue to miss time for the foreseeable future thanks to a nagging calf injury of some kind. Look for Jaylin Williams (glute) and Kenrich Williams to continue to be two of the primary beneficiaries of his absence for as long as he remains sidelined.
