The Dockers might now struggle to fit Warner into their salary cap given their star-studded list, but the Eagles appear perfectly placed to launch another bid on the gun midfielder at the end of this season or next.

20 Years Later, An Iconic Dystopian Thriller Remains Tragically Timely

A deadly virus ravages and changes society for the worse. A fascist leader runs the country and his goons are disappearing people off the street. Late night talk show hosts are being silenced for speaking out against the regime. This all describes the plot of V for Vendetta, but it doesn't take more than a cursory reading of the latest headlines to see why the dystopian graphic novel adaptation might feel especially relevant these days, 20 years after it came out. It would be wrong, though, to say V for Vendetta predicted the future, and it's hardly the perfect movie for our times. Instead, the past two decades have emphasized an emotion that was always present in the 2006 movie but may have been buried under the stylized action, iconic mask, and depictions of righteous resistance. V for Vendetta is very sad.

The Real Reason V For Vendetta Changed Lead Actors Mid-Production Revealed By Director 20 Years Later

20 years after V for Vendetta's theatrical release, director James McTeigue unmasks the truth about the lead actors being changed during production.

Hugo Weaving plays the eponymous masked vigilante, who revolts against the fascist regime in a fictional version of the United Kingdom and inspires others to join the fight in the adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel. Weaving's portrayal and his delivery of V's many memorable quotes received wide acclaim, but the role originally belonged to James Purefoy, who filmed for several weeks before he was replaced, with rumors suggesting it was due to creative differences.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the movie's 20th anniversary 4K re-release, McTeigue clarified that Purefoy's exit had less to do with creative differences and more with the actor not being the best fit for the role due to the limitations that come with having to wear a mask. The director explained that "Hugo embraced the mask" and it became "a freedom" that made him better-suited to the character. Check out McTeigue's comments below:

Warner ton not enough as Ward leads 'Canes to victory

A run-scoring slog fest at Engie Stadium saw the Hurricanes come out on top thanks to a brilliant opening partnership

David Warner blasted the highest individual score of the BBL season so far, but couldn't prevent a Tim Ward and Mitch Owen-inspired Hobart securing a six-wicket win over Sydney Thunder.

Warner wound back the clock with an unbeaten 130 off 65 balls at Engie Stadium on Saturday night, whacking nine sixes and 11 fours to steer the Thunder to 4-205.

But Ward (90 off 49) and Owen (45 off 18) responded with a 108-run opening partnership in just 51 balls to set the Hurricanes on track for a record run-chase at the Sydney Showground venue.

David Warner's record century for Sydney Thunder in vain as reigning champs cruise to victory

David Warner wound back the clock, smashing 130 off 65 balls for the Sydney Thunder on Saturday night – but it wasn't enough to lift his side to victory.

The 39-year-old had a serious job to do to rescue their innings after both Matthew Gilkes and Sam Konstas were dismissed for golden ducks.

Warner was up to the task, blasting nine sixes and 11 fours at a strike rate of 200.

Sydney Thunder Captain David Warner to miss KFC BBL|15 season opener

A Grand Final rematch will officially kick off Sydney Thunder’s KFC BBL|15 campaign as they name their 14-player squad to face the reigning champions, the Hobart Hurricanes, at Ninja Stadium, tomorrow night.

Captain David Warner has been ruled out of the season opener with injury leaving captaincy duties to veteran Chris Green.

Right arm bowler Charlie Anderson will come into the squad as the Local Replacement Player.

At just 20 years old, Anderson has already made an impact at List A level, taking five wickets in three matches and recording best figures of 3/37, with a solid bowling average of 27.20.

Thunder could also welcome four new debutants this season with international stars Shadab Khan and Reece Topley as well as emerging quicks Anderson and Ryan Hadley all named in the squad.

Stronger Hurricanes set for title defence: BBL|15 preview

Reigning champions have kept their core group intact and added international class as they seek to go back-to-back

Having retained the majority of their championship-winning squad as well as adding Australian stars Beau Webster and Jake Weatherald, Hobart Hurricanes know that if they play well enough, they'll again be in contention "when the whips are cracking".

Those two additions plus the international experience garnered by Mitch Owen following his breakout season, arguably give Hobart a stronger list than when they won their maiden Big Bash title in January.

Draft picks Rehan Ahmed and Rishad Hossain provide skipper Nathan Ellis with quality international spin options, replacing local spinners Peter Hatzoglou and Paddy Dooley on the Hurricanes list this season after the pair were unable to secure new contracts.

Brisbane: For most of Friday, Brydon Carse’s bowling could have been summed up by the ditty the Barmy Army penned for Mitchell Johnson during the 2010/11 Ashes.

“He bowls to the left, he bowls to the right, that Mitchell Johnson, his bowling is …” . You get the picture.

Just as it appeared England were heading to the point of no return, Carse turned from whipping boy to England’s unlikeliest deliverers of hope.
