Injury carnage hits Warriors-Broncos clash with Walsh and Metcalf ruled out

Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad will have a case to answer with the match review committee after he was sin binned for a hip drop on Brisbane’s Reece Walsh.

In the 17th minute, Nicoll-Klokstad was given his marching orders after he landed on the leg of Walsh.

Walsh had stayed down in agony before the Bunker reviewed the tackle which led to the Warriors star’s departure.

Walsh started to hobble off before he rejoined play, effectively on one leg, as the Broncos went on the attack.

The fullback tried to throw a cut-out pass to the wing which was then intercepted by Alofiana Khan-Pereira who ran the field to score and make it 16-0.

‘Absolutely cruel’: Warriors star’s season in doubt after devastating injury blow

Luke Metcalf’s remarkable return to first-grade could be over after the New Zealand Warriors halfback suffered another hamstring injury in a devastating blow against the Broncos.

Metcalf immediately grabbed at his right hamstring and knew something was wrong after attempting a goal-kick conversion.

The 27-year-old was visibly shattered as he left the field and went straight down the tunnel.

“Oh no! Oh no! The hamstring. He knew straight away that something was up,” commentator Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.

Broncos v Warriors: Duffy ready to grow; Metcalf's central role

The Warriors will continue their pursuit of the minor premiership when they travel to Brisbane to face the Broncos on Saturday night.

Wahs Fever took over Suncorp Stadium when the two sides clashed during Magic Round earlier this season and similar scenes are expected this weekend.

The Warriors have kicked on since that dominant win and sent shockwaves through the competition last week with a commanding victory over the Panthers.

The result pulled Andrew Webster's side within two points of Penrith and the Roosters on the ladder as they look to secure a top-two finish and a home final in the opening week of the post-season.

NRL Team Update: Hanson and Tafua two players to drop off

NRL rookies Luke Hanson and Makaia Tafua are the two players omitted from the One New Zealand Warriors’ 22-man squad 24 hours out from their round 24 encounter with the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night (7.35pm kick-off local time; 9.35pm NZT).

Playmaker Hanson and hooker Tafua have been released to line up for the club’s New South Wales Cup side against the Sea Eagles in Sydney.

Remaining in the reduced 20-man squad is second rower Morgan Gannon, who made his second NRL appearance in last Friday night's 28-12 victory over Penrith.

Back from an injury is front rower Demitric Vaimauga, who joins fellow local young guns Tanner Stowers-Smith and Eddie Ieremia-Toeava plus hooker Sam Healey, fullback Taine Tuaupiki and centre Adam Pompey on the six-man bench. .

NZ Warriors prop Tanner Stowers-Smith ready to battle Brisbane Broncos 'big dogs'

Tanner Stowers-Smith admits he's fizzing to lock horns with the much-vaunted Brisbane Broncos forward pack on Saturday.

The reigning NRL champions may be languishing near the bottom of the competition table, but names like Payne Haas, Patrick Carrigan, Xavier Willison and Jordan Riki shouldn't be trifled with.

"It's a really big challenge and that's been my biggest work-on through the year – wanting to go against these big guys and not taking a backwards step," Stowers-Smith said.

"They've got a really class forward pack, so it excites me and that's the challenge I want to take on myself every week – to step up to those top dogs."

Warriors confirm key half re-signing, another close to deal

The New Zealand Warriors are set to announce two re-signings in the coming weeks which will lock up their plans in the halves for years to come.

With Luke Metcalf to depart for the St George Illawarra Dragons after being granted a release set for the end of this year, it means Chanel Harris-Tavita, Te Maire Martin, Jett Cleary and Luke Hanson will be tasked with taking the club into the future.

With Hanson already linked to the Gold Coast Titans, and Harris-Tavita joining Martin on the off-contract list, there was a sense of urgency for the Warriors to get a couple of new deals over the line.

Chanel Harris-Tavita signs one-year extension to end of 2027

Chanel Harris-Tavita has stretched his stay with the One New Zealand Warriors to an eighth season after signing a one-year contract extension to the end of the 2027 NRL season.

The 27-year-old initially returned for his second stint with the club on a two-year deal for 2024 and 2025 before extending his contract by another season to the end of 2026.

Coming through the club’s system as a junior, the playmaker has enjoyed the best phase of his career since resuming his time with the club.

He has a 28-19 win-loss record (with one draw) in 48 appearances including a run of seven straight wins in his seven outings so far this season.

Warriors star misses State of Origin selection, Kiwis centre gets maiden call-up

Warriors front rower Jackson Ford has been overlooked for New South Wales’ State of Origin opener against Queensland next week.

Ford, 28, had been widely tipped to make his Blues debut for this year’s series opener in Sydney, after a fantastic start to the season with the Kiwi club.

    Even
as a front rower, Ford has played 80 minutes in four out of 10 games for the Warriors, and was reportedly told by New South Wales to pack extra for last weekend’s trip to Brisbane to face the Broncos.

However, as coach Laurie Daley named his 20 to face Queensland in game one, Ford’s name is noticeably absent.

McLean among four Panthers named for Origin I

Casey McLean is in the frame to make his NSW Blues debut after being named among four Panthers for the 2026 State of Origin series opener.

The 20-year old has been selected on the NSW bench, joining Isaah Yeo, Nathan Cleary and Brian To'o in coach Laurie Daley's squad for Game One at Accor Stadium on Wednesday 27 May.

Casey McLean has enjoyed a spectacular 2026 season, with four tries, seven try assists and an average of 146 run metres across 10 appearances for the Panthers.

Brian To'o, the reigning Brad Fittler Medal winner, takes his usual place in the NSW squad after scoring five tries in the 2025 series.

Warriors Announce Kristaps Porzingis Injury Update Before Suns Play-in Game

The Golden State Warriors are coming off one of their most resilient wins of the season, rallying past the Los Angeles Clippers 126-121 in a do-or-die play-in game to keep their postseason hopes alive. Stephen Curry led the charge with 35 points, including 27 in the second half. But the supporting cast of Kristaps Porzingis, Draymond Green and Al Horford played a key role in stabilizing the team throughout the night.

Porzingis finished with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win. He kept the Warriors within striking distance, particularly in the first half, as the Warriors eventually erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter.

Warriors Announce Starting Lineup for Play-In Game vs. Suns

Kristaps Porzingis (ankle) was listed as questionable earlier Friday, but he is active and starting for the Warriors against the Suns in the play-in game.

Porzingis is starting alongside Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos and Draymond Green. It's the same staring lineup the Warriors used against the Clippers for their 126-121 play-in win on Wednesday.

The Suns are starting Jalen Green, Devin Booker, Jordan Goodwin, Dillon Brooks and Oso Ighodaro. Starting center Mark Williams was ruled out for Friday's game, giving way for Ighodaro to make his 25th start of the year.

On the one hand, it's nice for the Warriors that they have a size advantage in the starting lineup.

Kristaps Porziņģis questionable against the Suns

Latvian big man Kristaps Porziņģis had arguably his best game with the Golden State Warriors last night against the Los Angeles Clippers, notching 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists on 8-of-12 shooting from the field (3-of-6 on threes). However, his availability is up in the air for tomorrow’s tilt against the Phoenix Suns.

Kristaps Porzingis listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game at Phoenix with right ankle soreness. He was limping around with it taped up after last night’s win in LA.

Should Porziņģis be unavailable tomorrow, it is assumed that Al Horford will start in his place. However, that would also meant that the Warriors’ center depth will take a massive hit, which could see Draymond Green at the five for spurts, should Steve Kerr deem it necessary. Green was at his best against the Clippers with either Porziņģis or Horford behind him as a backline rim protector; without either of them in certain configurations, Green might find it difficult to plug holes and erase mistakes despite his history of being a capable roamer and help-side defender.

Live: Warriors boosted by late inclusions for Titans clash

The New Zealand Warriors welcome back a pair of key players for their clash against the Gold Coast Titans in Auckland.

Later, South Sydney faces St George Illawarra, followed by Wests Tigers hosting the Brisbane Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins are set to be without five-eighth Kodi Nikorima after he was handed a suspension by the NRL for a hip-drop tackle that hospitalised Penrith Panthers hooker Mitch Kenny.

He has produced an excellent tackle around the legs of Warriors second-rower Leka Halasima. Halasima looked destined to score, but he was cut down in a great tackle. Illias saved a certain try.

Match Preview: Rivals lock horns for Zae Wallace Shield

Keeping the momentum rolling will be in focus for both the One New Zealand Warriors and the Gold Coast Titans in today's round seven NRL contest at Go Media Stadium (5.00pm kick-off).

It's a day when both teams also play for the Zae Wallace Shield in honour of the former Titan and New Zealand schoolboy star who fell seriously ill in 2019 and lost his battle with an infection at the age of just 20.

The Zae Wallace Shield has been at stake every time the two clubs have met since 2019, the Warriors reclaiming the trophy with a 32-18 win in Robina last August.

NRL 2026: Titans, Late mail: Bai to start as Titans tackle Warriors in New Zealand

Cooper Bai has been promoted to start in New Zealand as the Titans take on the Warriors at Go Media Stadium.

In his eighth NRL game for the Gold Coast, the dynamic forward takes on the vacant lock role with Chris Randall ruled out with a minor calf complaint; meanwhile, Jaylan De Groot also comes in to replace AJ Brimson who has stayed in Australia for the birth of his second child.

Klese Haas is good to go after missing last week's clash in Sydney due to a minor leg injury and will be injected from the bench, joining Zane Harrison and Josh Patston on the interchange with the pair coming in to cover the loss of both Randall and Brimson.

Warriors’ Draymond Green is ‘locked in’ for play-in matchup with Kawhi Leonard

PLAYA VISTA — The Draymond Green who termed the Warriors’ play-in fate as “not that exciting” isn’t the same player who’s showed up in the team’s film sessions the past two days.

“That was last week,” coach Steve Kerr smiled. “Draymond’s very excited.”

Preparing for a win-or-go-home play-in game Wednesday against the Clippers, the nine-time all-defense honoree has taken a hands-on role. He has always had a sharp basketball mind and has never shied away from speaking up, publicly or in practice.

The Warriors will need Green to be locked in to have any hope of slowing down Kawhi Leonard. He bodied the Clippers’ star the last time the two shared the court in March and, looking ahead to the assignment in Wednesday’s win-or-go-home play-in game, paid a high compliment.
