Tottenham: Cristian Romero says 'I wasn't perfect' as Atletico Madrid move confirmed

Cristian Romero (right) attended Tottenham's final game of last season after a backlash from fans and former players

Cristian Romero says he "wasn't perfect" during his five years with Tottenham Hotspur, with his move to Atletico Madrid confirmed.

The La Liga side have paid £34.2m for the 28-year-old Argentina centre-back, who has joined on a five-year deal.

Romero's last game for Tottenham was against Sunderland in April, when he left the field in tears with a knee injury that would rule him out of Spurs' last six Premier League games of the season.

The team were in a relegation battle and Romero upset fans by planning to be in Argentina for their final game, to watch his first club Belgrano play in the Primera Division Apertura final.

As the PE firm prepares to exit the airline, $93 million of expired flight credits should come in very handy.

There are few companies in Australia that seem to have done better out of COVID-19 than Bain Capital. Without the pandemic, Bain couldn't have plucked Virgin Australia out of administration in November 2020 for a mere $3.5 billion[[Only $730 million of this headline price was equity.]] and repaid itself in full within three years. Now six years and greater than $1 billion in distributed returns later, Covid has secured another windfall for the US private equity giant, this time in the form of $93 million in expired flight credits long forgotten by unlucky punters.

Who is Congo's goalie? Meet Lionel Mpasi, who is making England's life miserable

The Democratic Republic of the Congo was heavy underdogs against England in the first World Cup knockout game in the nation's history.

To stick around, Lionel Mpasi would have to be a giant in goal.

That included multiple unreal saves, including a stop with his midsection of Harry Kane just before halftime, as DR Congo clung to a 1-0 lead.

He was born to Congolese parents, and so he represents the country of his heritage at the international level.

His appearance in Wednesday's World Cup match is his 33rd cap for his country.

In his club career, Mpasi suits up for Le Havre in France's Ligue 1.

‘It’s a penalty!’ Kane accused of simulation as England desperately try peg back DR Congo lead

Harry Kane was ruled to have dived after he appealed for a first-half penalty against DR Congo in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash in Atlanta.

England were desperately trying to peg back a first-half deficit against the African outfit, who took a stunning seventh minute lead through Brian Cipenga, who fired past Jordan Pickford.

After a pulsating first-half from DR Congo, a desperate England were trying to chase the game and find an equaliser before the interval.

Kane surged into the box to chase a through ball and was felled by Lionel Mpasi in a rare lapse of judgement from the brilliant DR Congo goalkeeper, who plays for Le Havre in France.

'Wasn't on board': Nicoll-Klokstad itching for Warriors return after injury break

Describing Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as an ideal patient may be understating his competitive nature.

After missing six games this NRL season with a bothersome neck injury, the NZ Warriors fullback is finally back on the park and has been named to start on Sunday against North Queensland Cowboys in Christchurch.

Nicoll-Klokstad suffered the niggle in April against Cronulla Sharks, sat out the following week and returned perhaps prematurely against Gold Coast Titans, before missing the next five fixtures, plus two bye weeks.

Two months have passed since he was last seen in action and he admits it seems like forever.

"Nah, I wasn't on board with the medical advice," Nicoll-Klokstad chuckled. "I was ready to go straight away, but they are in their position for a reason.

Live: Warriors star named on bench for first time since release request

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad scores three tries in the first half against the Cowboys in the first game at a new stadium in Christchurch.

Later, the Storm face the Raiders before Blayke Brailey returns in the Sharks' showdown with the Roosters.

The Melbourne Storm get their Origin contingent back, including Cameron Munster for his 250th game.

Harry Grant is going to come off the bench as Trent Toelau starting.

The Raiders have done something similar, with Owen Pattie starting in jersey number 14 and Tom Starling benched.
