    Rebel Wilson’s Legal Faceoff With ‘The Deb’ Star Charlotte MacInnes To Be Streamed On YouTube

    Rebel Wilson‘s legal battle with Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actress in her directorial debut The Deb, will get underway in Australia next week — and it will be live-streamed on YouTube.

    MacInnes is suing Wilson in the New South Wales branch of the Federal Court of Australia. She claims that the Pitch Perfect star damaged her reputation by alleging that she was sexually harassed by The Deb producer Amanda Ghost, and then colluded with Ghost to cover up what took place. 

    A hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at 10.15 AM local time. In a listing, the Federal Court of Australia said the hearing would be streamed on the court’s YouTube channel to “ensure open justice.” It is not clear whether Wilson or MacInnes will attend.

    ‘Need an adult government’: Wilson warns Labor’s absurd spending fuelling inflation, recession risk

    Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson believes Canberra’s spending is inflating prices and leaving Australia exposed as economic pressures build.

    Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson has warned the federal government’s spending is worsening inflation and increasing the risk of an economic downturn. 

    His comments come as concerns grow about the economy’s direction, with rising fuel costs stemming from the crisis in the Middle East and weak private sector confidence weighing on growth. 

    Mr Wilson said the government was relying on public spending to support headline figures while underlying conditions deteriorate. 

    “The problem we've got is there's been a complete collapse in private sector confidence in Australia,” he told Sky News host Steve Price on Monday evening.

    The Deb is finally here. The film has been plagued by unresolved legal troubles and repeated delays. But here it is – and for the most part, it’s an enjoyable Australian comedy with characteristically crude humour, but aimed squarely at a young, female audience.

    It’s a shame it’s not as good a musical as it is a comedy.

    The Deb began life as a stage musical, as the first recipient of Rebel Wilson’s scholarship program for young, female-identifying comedy writers. Written by Australian comedy writer Hannah Reilly and musician Meg Washington, the musical was produced by the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) and enjoyed a successful season in 2022. Almost immediately, Wilson flagged her intent to adapt the stage show for film.

    Rebel Wilson's Aussie musical The Deb is fair-dinkum fun

    A good dose of country life never did an Aussie any harm, not least in the movies made in this country that regularly send city types to live in the bush where they do some penance. Spending time in the outback brings them down a peg or two, helps to show them what really matters. We saw this at work in last year's popular Kangaroo, a sweet story about a TV weatherman whose car inconveniently needed repairs while he was stuck in the back of beyond.

    This is how it goes in this screen version of the hit youth stage musical of 2022, The Deb, written by Hannah Reilly in collaboration with Megan Washington. It is a spirited directorial debut for Rebel Wilson, the high-profile actor, a veteran of the international and local film industries. She has a smaller but significant part here as Janette, the town beautician whose salon operating out of her garage goes by the name Curl Up N Dye. It promises to deliver clients the "real you, plus eyelashes, plus contouring, plus plus".

    Matilda actor Mara Wilson has blown fans away with her appearance 30 years after retiring from the film industry.

    The 38-year-old played the beloved titular character in Matilda, the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and adapted from Roald Dahl’s much-loved book.

    It shouldn't come as a surprise that 38-year-old Mara Wilson looks a lot different to when she was six.

    After starring alongside the late, great Robin Williams in 1993's Mrs Doubtfire, she became the face of 90s child stars with leading roles in Miracle on 34th Street and, of course, Matilda.

    But with 2000's Thomas and the Magic Railroad being her last major film role, the young actor lost interest in…well, acting.

    In her 2016 memoir Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame, she wrote: “I was done with acting… I wasn’t passionate about it the way you need to be to stay in that business.”

    '90s child actor who starred in Mrs. Doubtfire and Matilda looks unrecognisable 30 years on

    Famous '90s child actor Mara Wilson is all grown up in new footage decades after stepping away from Hollywood. Mara just six years old when she made her big screen debut alongside renowned comedian Robin Williams in the iconic 1993 film, Mrs Doubtfire. From there, she went on to act opposite Richard Attenborough in Miracle on 34th Street and landed arguably her most memorable role as the titular Matilda in the 1996 adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved book of the same name. 

    30 years on from playing the clever Roald Dahl protagonist with telekinetic abilities, the now 38-year-old star reminisced on a milestone moment from her star-studded childhood. Mara put her own twist on a popular trend going around amongst celebrities at the moment, where stars have been sharing old photos of themselves from the '90s in a montage set to The Goo Goo Dolls' Iris.

    During a recent stop on the Australian leg of her Whirlwind World Tour, Lainey Wilson paused her high-energy set to create an unforgettable moment for one very special fan. As part of a segment in her show, Wilson crowns one lucky audience member as her “Cowgirl of the Night.” At her Brisbane concert, that honor went to a brave young girl named Tessa.  

    Tessa was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2023. After years of treatment, the family found out that she relapsed and not only did the cancer return, but it was spreading. After finding out Tessa’s a big Wilson fan, social media personality Samuel Weidenhofer gave the young fan tickets to see her. Tessa met Wilson backstage, where she gave the young fan a matching Charlie 1 Horse cowboy hat, but the CMA Entertainer of the Year’s sweet gesture did not end there. She also crowned her “Cowgirl of the Night.”

    The production firms behind Rebel Wilson's directorial debut have made a vigorous legal attack against the A-lister seeking to shut down legal claims over the conflict-beset film.

    The Deb, a musical comedy filmed in rural NSW, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 but has yet to see a wider release amid ongoing disputes between Wilson and her co-producers.

    Wilson is currently embroiled in a defamation lawsuit at the moment, stemming from comments she allegedly made on social media about people on set of the movie ‘The Deb’.

    British Film Company Asks to Be Removed as Defendant From Rebel Wilson Countersuit

    A British film production company is asking a judge to remove them as a defendant in a countersuit brought by Rebel Wilson against three producers of the film “The Deb” who are suing the Australian actress for defamation.

    In court papers filed Friday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas D. Long in advance of a June 4, 2026, hearing, attorneys for AI Film Production Ltd. contend that the company is based in the United Kingdom and has no ties to California. Therefore, they say, service should be quashed for lack of personal jurisdiction. Wilson accuses AI Film of breach of contract.
