Ben Affleck Captures $1 Million on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,' a Year After Matt Damon Wins Prize

Ben Affleck and Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding triumphed on Wednesday’s episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire — winning $1 million for charity. The win arrives a year after his Good Will Hunting co-star and longtime collaborator Matt Damon also took the top prize.

In a dramatic moment, Affleck and Ding were faced with the final question and challenged to correctly guess which turkeys were not pardoned a U.S. president (a Thanksgiving tradition by formalized by President George H.W. Bush in 1989). Choosing between Peanut Butter & Jelly, Tater & Tot, Mac & Cheese, and Spaghetti & Meatball, the duo called on host Jimmy Kimmel as their lifeline. When Kimmel hesitated when guessing Spaghetti & Meatball, Affleck and Ding called upon Ding’s trivia partner Stephen Morrison, who opted not to answer. Left with little to go on, the pair went with Kimmel’s reluctant guess. “I would bet on Jimmy,” Affleck said. “I would go for it.”

Ben Affleck‘s nonprofit Eastern Congo Initiative was the real winner during the two-part conclusion of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

The duo made it to the million-dollar question when they opted to use their Ask-the-Host lifeline on Jimmy Kimmel, as well as their Phone-a-Friend, neither of whom was sure of the answer. They ultimately went with Kimmel’s answer, which proved to be correct.

After a blistering dispute that spanned continents and years, Hollywood A-lister Rebel Wilson has been found not to have defamed her co-star in a series of social media posts.

The Pitch Perfect star was sued by Australian actor Charlotte MacInnes, who played the lead role in Wilson’s directorial debut film The Deb.

MacInnes claimed Wilson defamed her in a series of social media posts that implied she was a liar and a sellout who walked back a sexual harassment complaint to further her career.

Rebel Wilson cleared in defamation case brought by actress in her own film

Rebel Wilson has been cleared of accusations that she defamed a young Australian actress, a Sydney court has found.

Charlotte MacInnes, who starred in Wilson's film The Deb, sued the Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect actress for allegedly harming her reputation in Instagram posts in 2024 and 2025.

In the posts, Wilson accused MacInnes of retracting her complaint of sexual harassment against a film producer so she could further her career – a claim MacInnes denied.

In court on Wednesday, Justice Elizabeth Raper dismissed the case, saying the imputation that MacInnes has changed her story about the incident was not defamatory. The judge ordered MacInnes to pay Wilson's costs.

Chess: Firouzja wins in Zagreb as Carlsen passes 15-year milestone at the top

The Frenchman is ranked world No 12, but that is a disappointment after he became the youngest ever 2800-rated player at 18 years and five months

Alireza Firouzja is shaping up to be one of the nearly men of grandmaster chess. The Iran-born Frenchman, 23, has just won the St Louis-organised Croatia Super Rapid and Blitz in Zagreb. He was far ahead at the start of the last day, but had a poor run of 2/7 during the final rounds before a successful Armageddon tie-break.

Firouzja’s career has been limited by his below-par performances in the Candidates. In 2022, he spoiled his chances by playing blitz into the small hours; in 2024, he did worse still, finishing seventh out of eight. He made a major effort to qualify again in 2025, hiring the late Daniel Naroditsky as his coach for the Grand Swiss in Samarkand, but finished third when only two qualified. At the victory ceremony, the bronze medal podium was conspicuously uninhabited.

    Super Rapid and Blitz

Alireza Firouzja jokingly described the final day of the Super Rapid and Blitz, held in Croatia earlier this month, as the ‘worst of his life’ – and yet somehow he won the tournament anyway. The rapid event was held over the first three days, which left Firouzja and Praggnanandhaa in joint first place, and an impressive game from the latter is shown below. Firouzja followed that up with a crushing 8/9 score on the first day of blitz chess, building up a lead which looked unassailable. But his feeble start of 2/7 on the final day put the tournament win in jeopardy. He scraped into the tiebreaks thanks to a dramatic turnaround in the penultimate round against Gukesh (below), and went on to win a tense ‘armageddon’ game against Abdusattorov which decided the event.

Lewis Hamilton reflects on a P3 finish and 16th visit to the Silverstone podium

Charles Leclerc emerged as the victor in a hugely eventful British Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver taking the win while Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli fell backwards following an issue on his car.

Charles Leclerc has claimed victory in a dramatic British Grand Prix, with Kimi Antonelli dropping backwards due to a car issue in the latter stages while a crash for Max Verstappen triggered a late-race Safety Car.

Leclerc made a lightning start, the Monegasque and team mate Lewis Hamilton getting ahead of Antonelli off the line. While Antonelli eventually caught Hamilton for P2, Leclerc remained steady ahead, only losing the lead when he made his pit stop.

In what had been a tactical race for much of the contest, Antonelli had been chasing down Leclerc in the final third, with Leclerc believing the game was up only for Antonelli to suffer a sudden mechanical problem with the wheel shield on his front left which broke when he went over the kerbs at Copse, leaving him struggling to turn the car.

Lewis Hamilton, on the podium for now: “Big, big congratulations to Charles, winning at this Grand Prix is such a special experience, and this is a great result for our team. So congratulations to our team. Yeah, I just didn’t have it today. I, uh, I, I jumped the start, already got in the 50-second penalty, but Charles had the pace for me today. I struggled with the balance of the car, but I give it everything and I’m grateful to be up here.”

High Court hands down significant Div 7A appeal decision

The High Court has published its appeal of the decision in Commissioner of Taxation v Bendel, which challenged the Tax Office’s longstanding views about the tax consequences of unpaid present entitlements owing to corporate beneficiaries.

The appeal in Commissioner of Taxation v Bendel was dismissed on Wednesday (10 June) morning, with the Full Bench of the High Court of Australia finding in favour of taxpayer Steven Bendel and Gleewin Pty Ltd, the trustee of the Steven Bendel 2005 Discretionary Trust.

The original appeal decision before the Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia determined that unpaid present entitlements (UPEs), arising from an entitlement to income of a trust, were not a loan under Division 7A of Part III of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936.

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva wins French Open and claims first grand slam title

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva was already a tennis phenom at age 15.

The eighth-ranked Andreeva ended the run of 114th-ranked Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the Roland Garros final on Saturday.

Andreeva became the youngest player to win the women’s singles title since Monica Seles, who was 18 when she landed her third straight French Open in 1992.

Chwalinska was attempting to become the first qualifier to capture the Roland Garros title.

When Andreeva executed a backhand cross-court winner on her first match point, she dropped on her knees to the clay to celebrate.

“You’re so young and talented. It’s so annoying,” Chwalinska told Andreeva during the awards ceremony.
