Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters has declared he will “fight to the hills” any charge brought against him for abusive language.

Butters could be bound for the AFL tribunal after being reported on Sunday night by umpire Nick Foot in his side’s 14-point loss to St Kilda on Sunday night.

Oops. Nine reporter stumbles through live cross

The Olympics are never short of colour and Live TV moments, including one earlier today when Today show’s sports presenter Danika Mason, struggled to make sense in a cross from Italy.

In Sydney Karl Stefanovic was discussing the price of coffee, before describing Mason as resembling a frozen iguana.

“The price of coffee over here is actually fine,” Mason replied. “It’s actually the price of coffee in the US we have to get used to … I’m not sure about the iguanas? Where are we going with that one?

Returning to sport, she said of athlete Lindsey Vonn, “The 41 year old has the massive (journey) ahead for her she’s grateful for all the support going her way… it’s absolutely (in)credible to see… honestly, to see the amount of support that she has is incredible.”

Police boost security as Melbourne braces for Australia Day rally and counter-protest

Anti-immigration protesters and annual Invasion Day rally-goers are set to converge on Melbourne’s CBD on Monday, and police will don extra protective gear after protests in October turned violent.

The Invasion Day rally will start at 11am outside Parliament House. Previous such protests have moved through the CBD and ended up outside Flinders Street Station. The opposing March for Australia is to start outside Flinders Street Station at noon.

March for Australia rallies are typically anti-immigration, however Monday’s event appears to focus more on Australia Day and keeping the public holiday on January 26, directly opposing the Invasion Day rally’s push to mark the day on a different date.

Australia defeats words with actions to complete rapid Ashes romp

It ended as it was always supposed to, with a scrum of Australian cricketers in the middle of the Adelaide Oval, leaping and hugging and screaming in celebration of Ashes victory.

The overnight headlines pitched a foregone conclusion and Australian coronation, and had you slept through everything that happened in the four hours before that mid-pitch convergence, you may have assumed you missed the procession.

England's backbone, belatedly fortified, took Australia about as far as it could have ever hoped to. With little more than a bit of determination and some respectful batting, England whittled the chase to under 200, under 150, under 100, all the way into the pits of Australian stomachs.

The key moments that turned Ashes in Aussies' favour

England were left to rue their inability to 'seize the moment' as they surrended their Ashes challenge in 11 days' play, so what were those series-defining key moments?

With the Ashes series decided before Christmas, the Bazball autopsy is certain to be thorough.

Were England deficient technically? Tactically? Mentally? Or perhaps all of the above?

Well, according to the England leadership, a larger factor than both the batters' shot selection or bowlers' lines and lengths was their side's inability to "seize the key moments".

What makes a moment? It's a subjective term, but it's effectively a passage of play that could last a full session or a single ball. They're the mini-battles and periods of time that determine the outcome of the match.

Ben Stokes has battled hard for his team but he and his coach Brendon McCullum shoulder responsibility for this Ashes debacle. The tourists have not shown the humility and nous required to tailor their game to Australian conditions.

They were better in Adelaide and displayed more resistance but again were let down by stupid decisions with the bat. Ben Duckett played a poor shot in the second innings. Harry Brook’s mode of dismissal was embarrassing. Jamie Smith batted well before making a rash decision.
