'Part of me would miss him a lot': McRae waits on Pendles call

Collingwood will need to wait till season's end to hear what its champion is doing next

COLLINGWOOD coach Craig McRae can understand rival clubs targeting Scott Pendlebury as the Magpies legend prepares to leave a call on his future until the end of the season.

After missing Sunday's win over West Coast, Pendlebury will be joined by fellow premiership hero Jordan De Goey in returning to face Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night.

Debuting in 2006, Pendlebury is giving thought to playing on into a 22nd AFL season in 2027, even if it is at another club.

Essendon and Gold Coast have shown interest in recruiting Pendlebury as effectively an on-field coach.

Golden Sunset? Gold Coast ponders Pendlebury for Hodge-like role

Gold Coast have expressed interest in recruiting Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury for a Luke Hodge-style role on the field next year.

Essendon also have inquired about whether Pendlebury would be interested in playing with and mentoring their young list next year, as the AFL’s games record holder weighs up his next move, industry sources familiar with Pendlebury’s discussions have confirmed.

The Suns, who have slumped from a 7-3 start this season to be 8-13 and out of finals contention, are primarily interested in Pendlebury as a player next year, rather than as an assistant coach, though he harbours coaching ambitions and could easily move from playing to (assistant) coaching if he chooses to leave the Magpies.

Essendon’s bold play to lure Pendlebury for great’s final chapter

Essendon has reportedly made a bold play to convince Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury to finish his career at Tullamarine.

It comes as the 38-year-old has reportedly told the Pies he wants to play on again in 2027.

The Magpies are reportedly still on the fence about whether to offer Pendlebury a contract given his age, but he is seemingly keen to go into a 22nd AFL campaign.

And while AFL reporter Cal Twomey says a move to Essendon won’t come to fruition, it highlights the current lateral thinking at the Bombers as they attempt to add experience and leadership to their list.

What a housing downturn would look like in your city

Cotality has crunched the numbers to see how far house prices may fall in different scenarios. (ABC News: Fletcher Yeung)

Double-digit declines in home values would make little dent in the gains accumulated across mid-sized housing markets during Australia's five-year housing boom, according to new analysis from property data firm Cotality.

The modelling illustrates how market pullbacks could impact capital city prices across four downturn scenarios: 5 per cent, 10 per cent, 15 per cent and 20 per cent.

Years of subdued growth have left Melbourne with a relatively thin buffer if prices were to fall, with dwelling values peaking at $840,000 in November 2025.

"A decline beyond 10 per cent in Melbourne would return values to pre-pandemic levels," Cotality head of research Gerard Burg said.

This housing correction is on track to break records

With Australia staring down a record property downturn and hidden bank hybrid risks emerging, staying super liquid is the ultimate defence against the coming storm.

Risk is everywhere you look. Long-term interest rates seem to be grinding inexorably higher: in the past month, the US 10-year Treasury yield has marched towards 5 per cent while Australia’s 10-year yield has pushed through that threshold.

We have witnessed the inception of a globally synchronised hiking cycle, with the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the European Central Bank, Norges Bank and others lifting rates.

Emily Wilson, the classicist whose 2017 translation of Homer’s Odyssey was cited by Christopher Nolan in early publicity for his hugely successful adaptation of the poem, has roundly criticised the film, saying “it has nothing convincing to say” and that it “lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth”.

‘The Odyssey’ Translator Cited by Nolan Trashes Film: “I Would Be Ashamed”

Acclaimed 'Odyssey' translator Emily Wilson opens fire on Nolan's hit epic — from an "abysmal" script to lack of sex scenes.

Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey has won over critics and audiences while breaking box office records for Universal.

Wilson is an acclaimed translator of Homer’s epic poemsThe Iliad and The Odyssey, and her opening sentence to the latter (“Tell me about a complicated man”) was previously cited by Nolan.

But her review of the film for the London Review of Books was so scathing that it’s going viral, and the publication’s website appeared to go down early on Monday.

Why would Taylor Swift get married at Madison Square Garden?

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to celebrate their wedding with a party at New York's Madison Square Garden this weekend. (Reuters: David Richard-Imagn)

New York is in a lavender haze ahead of what's been dubbed "America's royal wedding", but while everyone believes they know the when and where of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's upcoming nuptials, much of the reported two-day extravaganza will likely be a cloak-and-dagger operation.

Intrigue about the world's most famous singer and her wedding to the American football star has dominated tabloids, gossip columns and social media feeds for months.

The enthusiasm kicked into overdrive this week as more US media outlets began reporting that Swift would be hosting an event on July 3 at New York's Madison Square Garden (MSG).

It’s been a long time coming … but finally, finally, we can write the sentence many fans have dreamt of seeing for 20 years: Hello and welcome to our live blog of Taylor Swift’s (reported) wedding weekend!

The 14-time Grammy winner is tying the knot with NFL tight end Travis Kelce, of the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s the extent of what we know for sure.

Are they getting married in New York City? Seems so. This weekend? All signs point to yes. Could the “mastermind” (prepare yourself for many Swift puns) actually be fooling us with an elaborate Madison Square Garden ruse? That’s also likely.

A Coalition government would end Australia’s non-discriminatory immigration program and introduce Trump-style social media vetting for visa applicants, as Angus Taylor accuses Labor of allowing migrants of “subversive intent” into the country.

As the opposition loses support to Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, Taylor says too many people seek to use Australia’s generosity “for self-serving purposes”, promising to speed up rejections of asylum seekers from countries deemed safe to return to.

A coalition government plans to end Australia's non-discriminatory immigration program and introduce social media vetting for visa applicants if it governs again.

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor would also boot migrants that do not exhibit a belief in a "fair go" from the country under a new hardline migration plan he will unveil in a speech on Tuesday.

"We need to put Australian values first and that hasn't been the case in our immigration system in the past and it needs to change," Mr Taylor told ABC Radio on Tuesday.

Why 2026 success would mean extra to Hazelwood

TODD Hazelwood’s new privateer effort has gotten off to the perfect start.

After winning the past two Trans Am titles with TFH Racing, Hazelwood has gone out on his own for 2026 with the launch of Todd’s Garage.

New challenge, same result seems to be the theme after Hazelwood roared to the season-opening pole position at Bathurst, a 2m09.9710s putting his Four’N Twenty Mustang almost a half-second clear of nearest threat Nathan Herne.

“I like to do things well, I like to go from top to bottom, no excuses,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“I guess I can only blame myself – if something doesn’t go right or if something falls off the car, that’s on me.

Hazelwood gets pole, big driver change

Things get serious at the Bathurst 6 Hour today with qualifying and also racing in Trans Am, where Todd Hazelwood starts as favourite.

Friday’s most important session was Trans Am qualifying, where Hazelwood enjoyed a perfect start to life at his new team.

Representing his own private Todd’s Garage, the two-time defending champion took pole by a convincing margin of half a second.

His 2:07.9710 was a strong 0.4758s clear of Nathan Herne, while James Golding, James Moffat and Ben Bargwanna were the only other drivers inside the top 10.

In a sign of renewed competitiveness in Trans Am, it was far from an all-Ford affair.

Pie giant to back Todd Hazelwood in Trans Am

The two-time Trans Am champion revealed the new colours at a livery launch party at Easy Times Brewery in Brisbane, just outside the Gabba stadium.

Hazelwood notably parted ways with TFH Racing in the off-season, making the decision to start his own team in a new business venture known as Todd’s Garage.

Synonymous with Australian sport, the new partnership with Todd’s Garage will be the first time the pie brand has featured as a major sponsor in a national motorsport series.

The eye-catching yellow and red livery features several of Hazelwood’s long-time partners amongst new backers.

‘I’m incredibly proud to represent Four’N Twenty on my #1 Mustang for the 2026 Trans Am Series,” said Hazelwood.

‘Would you like me to cry now?’: Louis Theroux on the manosphere, marriage and misunderstandings

He’s television’s most daring documentary-maker, known for asking questions others wouldn’t. But Theroux doesn’t seem to like it when the tables are turned

On the pavement outside the Netflix office, I stand in the rain, confused. Was that interview a little off? Louis Theroux seemed not to like my questions, which were typical interview questions, related to him and his big glossy Netflix debut, Inside the Manosphere. He seemed, I don’t know, prickly? A bit testy? I’m prone to rumination, so perhaps I am overthinking. Because Louis Theroux is a good guy, right? He skewers the bad guys. And yet here I am, baffled. The only thing to do is sit in a cafe and replay the tape.

Did Louis Theroux's manosphere documentary change anyone's mind?

It's a question explored in Louis Theroux's latest documentary, Inside the Manosphere.

Netflix calls it a "no-holds barred" investigation into "a growing ultra-masculine network" – and it's been sparking discussions since its release earlier this week.

Theroux spoke to some of the space's most prominent figures – including UK streamer Harrison Sullivan, aka HS TikkyTokky, who is seen arguing with Theroux over claims he promotes misogynist views.

Some have called the documentary a "shocking" insight into the world of these influencers but others have accused it of failing to shed new light on the phenomenon.

BBC Newsbeat spoke to a group of young men and others who keep track of the online space, including charities that support women, to ask if they thought Theroux's film would have an impact.

These toxic influencers hadn’t heard of Louis Theroux. That was their first mistake

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Louis Theroux does a thorough job in this feature-length documentary about the extreme edges of online masculinity culture. That is to say, the veteran documentarian weaponises his quizzical eyebrows and uses his apologetic embarrassment as a tool for access, all the while getting at the ugly truths and delusional hunger behind a movement trying to turn the mobile phones of teenage boys and young men into an indoctrination tool and ATM.

It’s both a valuable explainer – this is what “red-pilled” means – and a viable public disinfectant.

A long-time BBC fixture, Theroux uses Netflix’s reach to get access to the comrades and camp followers of Andrew Tate, the first name referenced regarding toxic online misogyny. One of them, Briton Harrison Sullivan, aka HSTikkyTokky, hasn’t heard of Theroux and doesn’t know what to make of this trim, bespectacled 55-year-old with zero game.
