That can be nice and comforting, as we all make small and big decisions every day, meet life milestones, and deal with a lot of information overload and feeling overwhelmed. That's also why many of us are invested in Harlan Coben's storytelling. When you start watching one of his many Netflix thrillers, you assume it will tell a story about family and love and feature some big reveals along the way. I want to talk about one of the best ones, and it has every element you want from a Coben series.

    With the sheer volume of TV shows Netflix releases every year, any series that rises to the top is worth taking note of, which makes it especially shocking that the streaming platform's #1 crime drama of 2026 has such a low Rotten Tomatoes score. Netflix has myriad series of every genre, but they are truly a crime drama lover's paradise, with critically acclaimed series like Mindhunter and Ozark, British shows like The Gentlemen and The Bodyguard, and multiple Harlan Coben adaptations.

    The latest Coben novel to get the Netflix treatment is I Will Find You. Premiering on June 18, 2026, I Will Find You centers on David Borroughs, an innocent man wrongfully convicted of murdering his son, Matthew. Five years into his prison sentence, David learns that Matthew may still be alive, and he breaks out of prison to find out the truth once and for all.

    On a sunny Sydney Friday afternoon, a group of extremely athletic people in sailor costumes float merrily across a stretch of water, encased in inflatable spheres. On land, similarly dressed athletic people slowly pull them along with strings as the performers strike acrobatic poses and wave to passersby.

    Sydney can change while preserving its treasures

    I have long felt a sense of unease about the renovation of North Sydney Olympic Pool. It was less about the astronomical budget ($122 million) and five-year closure – although this has certainly concerned many of our readers – than about what the wrecking ball might do to this art deco treasure, which I have always considered one of Sydney’s most beautiful public facilities.

    My attachment is unashamedly emotional: North Sydney was my childhood pool. I remember racing down the iconic staircase to get to squad training, eating red icy poles on the pool deck and cheering from the grandstand at school swimming carnivals. We’d leap from the diving boards, nag Mum for a coin for hot showers, and swim beneath the “bubble” (a strange temporary tent) in winter. I loved it for its beauty, its familiarity and its sense of history. I didn’t want it to change.

    The tropical Pacific Ocean is rapidly warming towards a ‘very strong’ El Niño event, with a key monitoring index this week crossing a threshold not reached for more than 10 years.

    El Niño was declared by the Bureau of Meteorology in the middle of June this year following four months of persistent warming in the tropical Pacific Ocean, along with a response from the overlying atmosphere. Since then, El Niño has been rapidly gaining strength.

    El Niño is strengthening across the Pacific Ocean at an alarming rate and could annihilate all records in the modern era.

    The rapid warming of our largest ocean is supplying additional heat into the Earth's atmosphere, contributing to a summer of extreme heatwaves and fires across Europe and North America.

    But with El Niño still months away from peaking, its impact on global weather will intensify through the back half of 2026, including in Australia, raising the prospect of our hottest spring on record and a heightened risk of drought and fires.

    A prominent real estate agent has warned Aussies will continue to stay away from auctions even as property prices fall, saying he experienced his ‘worst auction day’ in his career last weekend.

    Tom Panos, based in Sydney, took to social media to express his shock that not only did he fail to sell all six of the houses he had up for auction on Saturday, but that there were no bidders who registered.

    Markéta Vondroušová suspended for 4 years after refusing doping test

    2023 Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová has been suspended for four years after refusing a doping test in early December 2025.

    An independent tribunal gave Vondroušová, who is an Olympic silver medalist and has a career-high ranking of world No. 6, the maximum penalty for the offence. The 26-year-old Czech did not submit a sample when notified by a Doping Control Officer (DCO) during an out-of-competition test attempt at her home at around 8 p.m. on December 3, 2025.

    Vondroušová was charged by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which oversees anti-doping in tennis, in February. Vondroušová issued a statement on Instagram in April, detailing how the random visit from a doping control official, outside of her one-hour whereabouts slot for testing, caused an “acute stress reaction” which, she said, prevented her from thinking clearly.

    A humpback whale has made a 15,000km journey from Brazil to Australia, marking what researchers believe is the longest distance ever documented between sightings of an individual humpback.

    The whale was first photographed in 2003 at the Abrolhos Bank, Brazil’s main humpback whale nursery, off the coast of the north-eastern state of Bahia. In September 2025, it was spotted again in Hervey Bay off the Queensland coast, representing a travel distance of about 15,100km.

    Stephanie Stack, a PhD candidate at Griffith University and co-author of new research published in Royal Society Open Science, said it was “extraordinary to photograph a whale that’s gone this distance – it has never happened before”.

    Researchers uncover longest whale journey ever documented with fluke photos

    Researchers using a citizen science database found two whales that had travelled between Hervey Bay in Queensland to Brazil in South America.

    They used photographs of tails, or flukes, to identify the animals.

    Researchers say it is the first photographic evidence that whales move between breeding ground populations.

    Record distances travelled by whale populations have been discovered in research published today.

    Using citizen science platform Happywhale, researchers analysed 20,000 photographs of whales across the Southern Hemisphere, taken from the 1980s to now.

    Scientists used photographs of whale tails, or flukes, to identify individual whales and found that two had travelled across the Pacific Ocean to the other side of South America.

    Two humpback whales set records swimming between Australia and Brazil

    NEW YORK — Scientists have spotted two humpback whales that made separate, record-breaking crossings between Australia and Brazil.

    The whales were identified by their distinctive tail markings at the two locations about 9,000 miles apart. They traveled in opposite directions and journeyed farther than any humpback known so far.

    “It’s a very rare event, but it is a really wonderful demonstration of just how wide-ranging these animals are,” said Phillip Clapham, former head of a NOAA whale research program who was not involved with the new findings.
