Fast bowler Brendan Doggett says he learned he could make a Test debut while waiting to bat in South Australia's Sheffield Shield run chase last week against Tasmania.

Injuries to Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have opened the door for Doggett to potentially make his Test debut against England in the first Ashes Test.

The first Ashes Test between Australia and England will begin in Perth on Friday, November 21, with ABC Sport providing a live blog, as well as a live call of every ball in the series.

Scott Boland expects Brendan Doggett to help inspire a new generation of Indigenous cricketers, as a slice of history beckons for the duo when the Australia XI is named for the Ashes opener in Perth.

The fast bowlers are on the verge of shattering the glass ceiling and becoming the first pair of Indigenous cricketers to be included in the same Australia side as spots open up with Josh Hazlewood joining injured captain Pat Cummins on the sidelines.
