‘The Odyssey’ Trailer Drops: Matt Damon Battles To Return Home In Christopher Nolan Epic
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s feature take of Homer’s The Odyssey is here, and yet the highly anticipated movie has already sold out 70MM Imax tickets at AMC and Regal cinemas.
Matt Damon is seen here as Odysseus, King of Ithaca, leading his soldiers home after the Trojan War. There’s barely a glimpse of a monster in the trailer, but per the poem which is set around eighth century BCE, he faces Polyphemus the Cyclops, Sirens, the nymph Calypso and the witch goddess Circe in the treacherous oceans. If anything, there’s a lot of ocean and a lot of shipwreck with Odysseus and troops inside the Trojan Horse.
Odyssey trailer brings the myth to vivid life
“After years of war, no one could stand between my men and home. Not even me.”
Director Christopher Nolan won two well-deserved Oscars for 2023’s Oppenheimer, and Hollywood was soon buzzing about what his next project might be. A vampire period piece, perhaps? Or maybe a reboot of 1983’s Blue Thunder or British 1960s spy series The Prisoner? Instead, Nolan chose to adapt one of the greatest epic sagas in history: Homer’s Odyssey. At long last, Universal has released the first official trailer for Nolan’s The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as the wandering Ithacan king. Frankly, it looks appropriately epic.

Trailer shows Matt Damon as the Greek hero, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus
The first trailer has been released online for Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey.
Starring Matt Damon as the classic Greek hero, the trailer offers a series of shots of a bearded Damon as he sets out to return from the fall of Troy as his gravelly voiceover announces: “After years of war … no one could stand between my men … and home … not even me.â€
The trailer also provides brief glimpses of Anne Hathaway as Odysseus’s wife Penelope and of Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, as Odysseus battles storms and other obstacles on his way back to Ithaca.
