Super Bowl 60 coin toss coin made in Florida. 5 things to know
For the first time in more than 30 years, when the referee tosses the coin to determine before the start of Super Bowl 60, the coin won't have been made in Florida.
It will have been altered here, though. In honor of the country's 250th anniversary, the Highland Mint in Melbourne, which has produced the Super Bowl coin since 1994, will be altering a special coin provided by the NFL.
"In honor of the 250th anniversary of the nation, a restrike of one of the most iconic medals in American history, the Libertas Americana, will serve as the official coin for the Super Bowl LX coin toss," said Vince Bohbot, longtime executive vice president of the Highland Mint. "Originally commissioned by Benjamin Franklin in 1782, the medal celebrates America’s victory in the Revolutionary War."
