The first major cold front of the year is expected to begin crossing the WA coast on Wednesday, with falls of up to 30 millimetres forecast for some parts of the state's south.
‘Heavy rainfall’: BOM issues severe weather warning for WA
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, alerting communities that WA is set to be battered by damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
The warning was issued at 5.47pm and BOM outlined cold front moving northeast through the South West district, including parts of Lower West, South West, South Coastal and Great Southern districts.
“The front is triggering a number of showers and a few embedded thunderstorms that may produce heavy rainfall in some locations. Damaging winds are also possible in the northern portions of the warning area,” the statement read.
Locations which may be affected by the weather warning include Collie, Harvey, Denmark and Pinjarra.

Right on cue for the start of winter, a series of cold fronts will deliver a week of consistent showery weather for Perth and southwest WA, with light showers already scooting through the region on Wednesday morning and heavier rain likely to commence this afternoon or evening.
While much of eastern Australia has been unseasonably wet and mild this week as a complex series of troughs and upper and lower level low pressure systems interacts with a tropical moisture feed, the southwest can expect a classic winter pattern with repeated cold fronts.
